Hi guys, sorry for the late post. I was waiting for Va Tech to release their injury report. If you recall, last week we hit with both the spread and the over. Not tracking my record this year so far, but it's been a profitable one. Let's keep the streak going.
If you didn't hear, Maryland senior QB Chris Turner sprained his MCL and fractured his radius last week against NC State and is doubtful for this week's game. Starting his first career game will be sophomore QB Jamarr Robinson, whose stat line was fairly unimpressive last week. He did show off his wheels, running for 38 yards, but he was erratic throwing the ball -- despite having a cannon for an arm -- throwing 5-for-11 for 27 yards. Blech.
RB Da'Rel Scott remains out with a broken forearm but may be back next week for the FSU game. Freshman OL Bennett Fulper is done for the year with a shoulder surgery, CB Nolan Carroll is still out for the year, as are freshman DE Isaiah Ross and OL Tyler Bowen. All of these guys started or were supposed to start at least one game this year. AKA they aren't walk-ons or a wasted roster spot.
Va Tech's obviously struggling this year, and the real question is whether they will put up enough points to beat Maryland by 18. They haven't scored 24 points in three games, and I think Maryland will score a touchdown, even against Tech's stingy defense.
The Hokies have no big injuries besides RB Darren Evans, who has been out since before Week 1, and junior center Beau Warren, who is nursing a knee injury he sustained against UNC (I think).
It should be rainy for Saturday. If it's not raining during the game, it's definitely supposed to rain before it. It's been raining here all week and I can't imagine the field conditions are good. It may look like a slip-n-slide out there. That's where RB Ryan Williams comes in. The freshman has looked outstanding all year and will be leaned on heavily to carry the load when Tech gets up early and doesn't want to the turn the ball over.
Another cause for concern for the Terps is that Northern Virginia is a huge area for Virginia Tech grads to relocate. There may be more Tech fans than Maryland fans in the stands of Byrd Stadium tomorrow, honestly. I'm talking at least 15,000 fans wearing maroon, so there goes your home field advantage.
The over/under is 48 points, and honestly I don't see more than five touchdowns. Tech's offense has been pretty bad, scoring 16 against East Carolina and 17 against North Carolina and 23 against Georgia Tech. None of those teams are elite defenses. And, while Maryland put up 31 points against NC State and 32 against Wake Forest, I don't see the Terps scoring more than 14-17 on Saturday. I see this game going something like 28-10 or 20-7. Tech will get an early lead and run the clock down.
PREDICTION: Take the UNDER as Maryland won't be able to put up points in the rain against Tech and Beamerball. Or, if you want a more sure thing, take the -1000 moneyline, but that's a lot of juice. Good luck everyone.
