College football is a total joke, until they have a playoff system it is a comedy.

Do you really think the Vols are a better team than Georgia?

This is because most of the experts said that Georgia was the better team here and that they got unlucky. The polls are normally a joke in the beginning of the year. Kansas State is a perfect example!

Want another joke, the AP has my Aggies ranked 23rd and the ESPN/Coaches poll does not have them ranked. If the Aggies upcoming game against OK ST was on ESPN I promise the Aggies would of been ranked in their poll!

My apologies for starting a thread last week on Kansas State. I knew when I went to place the bet and got K State -3 at +100 that I was missing something. AND right I was!

So if one team beats another team then they are automatically better than the other team?

Let me quit beating around the bush. Georgia is a better team than the Vols. Georgia was coming off the biggest win in about ten years for that University and they came out flat. Tennessee was coming off an absolute thrasing on national TV and wanted to prove they weren't that bad. The point spread was around 13. If they were to play tomorrow in Knoxville the Dawgs would still be a favorite. A few words of advice that a long time bookmaker told me that might help you out "The best team doesn't always win"

Last year Buffalo and Washington beat N/E in the regular season. So by your theory Buffalo and Washington were better than N/E last year. Last year Cal beat USC so you are saying Cal was a better team than USC last year?

Head to head is one obvious method to determine who is better. Here's another potential problem...what if Florida State wins out and Miami loses later in the year...guaranteed they get slotted behind Florida State, even though they beat them.

Since the polls do determine the final outcome of who plays in the BCS games...then I think there should be a rule that requires voters to vote for a team that wins a head-to-head matchup against an opponent with the same record to vote the winning team higher....In the case of Georgia and Tennessee, if both teams finish the year undefeated...which means Tennessee would be the SEC champion...there is a chance that they will never pass Georgia in the Rankings...

Two teams have played in the national championship without even winning their conference (Nebraska and Oklahoma)...and both were embarassed at the end of the year....and in their bowl games.

Some voting guidelines might help the bozo's who think Texas is the 11th ranked team in the country...I would expect the team that is ranked 11th in the country would not suffer a shut-out loss, no matter who they are playing, and have a quarterback that can execute a forward pass.

here's my point, I don't view sports through bookies eyes.

I see sports as the team that wins on the field is the best.

opinion polls do not determine who is best. let your play on the field do the talking. if a superior team has a "let down" then they are not mentally tough enough to win and that is one aspect of a good team.

tennessee showed alot to go into georgia and beat them on their field, so they are the better team.

I am a proponent of a playoff system and that was the point of my thread.

I'm saying that ranking teams by polls sux balls.

Rank teams by wins and losses on the field then put em on the field in a playoff and may the best team win.

fvk what bookies and polls think.

the best way to determine the better team is to play it on the field. what other way carries more weight? stats? they were better on that day. what else can you say?. If each team has one loss, then the team that beat them should be ranked higher. I don't think the Vols should be ranked a whole lot higher than they are at this point, but the should definately be ranked ahead of Georgia.. Vols should be around 10 and Georgia around 12 -13.
The vols are traditionally overated at the beginning of the season. With that being said, we play better when there is a lack of respect.
If the vols win out and beat Auburn in the SEC chanpionship, then there will be a place for them in the BCS. It should take care of itself.
BTW Georgia still has to play Auburn, and FLA , for which Richt has never beaten.
Georgia struggled against weak teams and had one good game. They were exposed by a young mediocre vols team that has the meat of their schedule behind them(Auburn, FLA, GA)
thanks

Hitman

you sound like verne lundquist and todd blackledge. they couldn't stand it either. the vols led the whole game despite poor officiating on both sides of the ball. cbs harped on the bad calls against GA, not much mention or replays of the bad calls(no calls) that went against the vols
thanks

the vols were the better team that day. For whatever reason. Maybe UGA is better. Maybe not. But on Oct. 9 The Vols went to UGA and beat them as a 13 point dog on their own field. That does say something. And head to head matchups should matter. Obviously if you really wanted to see who was better you would have to play more than 1 game.

Ok I'm sorry but I just can't give this up. Last year USC finished number 1 or 2 while LSU finished 1 or 2 depending on the polls. Now what I gather from you guys is that Cal should have been ranked higher than USC and Florida Gators should have been ranked higher than LSU, because last year Cal beat USC and Florida beat LSU "on the field."

Vols didnt even beat Fla. and I think that "victory" is in the minds of some of the voters.
