I got some time to kill...

If TCU wins out, this is all we are going to hear about for the next two months. And if they can maintain their current standing, they are guaranteed a spot as an "at large" team.

Personally I hope it happens. I want TCU to play LSU, or Florida State, or another top level BCS team. I want them to lose 60-7, on national TV, so this entire "mid-level conference deserves a shot at the BCS" thing goes away and we never have to hear about it again.

First off, TCU's strength of schedule is currently 87th...Eighty F'in 7th. That would put them dead last out of the top 20 BCS teams...by over 20 spots! Not one team TCU has beat is currently in the top 25 in any poll, nor is there any remaining on their schedule. This should be a requirement!

Now, I don't fault TCU for this...you play who is on your schedule. But the reality is this. There are at least 20 teams in Division 1 that would probably have the same record. And that includes teams in Non-BCS conferences such as Miami, OH or Boise State, perhaps even Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, and Utah!

Another thing about these mid-majors. Before the BCS they were never alligned to the Orange or Sugar or Rose Bowl, which have ALWAYS had the biggest payouts. Shoot, I'm pretty sure no non-BCS conference team ever even played in the Cotton Bowl or Fiesta Bowl.

So let's all hope TCU makes it to the BCS game. Let's hope they get crushed, so we don't have this problem for the rest of the BCS contract.

Personally, I think more weight needs to be placed on the strength of schedule, and substantially less weight on the computers. I also think they should reconsider puting back some emphasis on margin of victory. Ohio State squeeks out home wins against SDSU, Northwestern and Bowling Green, and barely gets by Penn State. USC and LSU beat the shit out of the teams they play...in otherwords, each has had a let-down game, but USC and LSU take care of business, while Ohio State bumbles and stumbles against far inferior teams. Since it's subjective, then some credit should be given to teams that show their strength on the field over the course of an entire season.

My BCS projections:

SUGAR: Oklahoma vs. USC
ORANGE: Miami vs. LSU
FIESTA: Florida State vs. Texas
ROSE: Michigan vs. Washington State

Don't really think Washington State deserves a BCS Bid, but strongly believe that if they win out, the Rose Bowl will stay the course and match Big 10 vs. Pac 10. The only alternative I can think that might change that is if they take Texas...then I see the Fiesta Bowl taking Ohio State.

I forgot to ask...

If TCU played Miami, OH or Boise State on a neutral field, and the line was even...who would you bet on?

How about a match-up against teams that aren't leading their conferences. If TCU played Kansas State or Oregon State or Michigan or Florida on a neutral field...who would you bet on?

LSU 59 Arizona 13.

TCU 13 Arizona 10....

I'm not much for comparing opponents, because every week is different but in this case I think one can definitely see a major difference.

LSU would fvcking cold whack the shit out of TCU and the line for that game would be a gift at LSU –20 points.

I just hope Southern Miss beats their ass so they'll shut the fvck up.

Cincy WINS! And all this shit comes to an end.

Seriously, to think about this objectively, I would take it to 2 extremes. In the current system if the Houston Texans were allowed to be considered a college team, given the current system bullshit, TCU would be ranked above them in the BCS based on their record, but we know what would happen if the Texans played anyone in College Football, but given their schedule they wouldnt have a chance in hell in the BCS.

In another situation TCU has played no one, while on the other hand Auburn will play its 5th top 10 team this weekend at Georgia, although I dont think they belong in the BCS top ten, but some credit needs to be given to teams that play tough games week end and week out.

TCU is total bullshit.

PLAYOFFS!

Louisville played (and beat) Alabama in the Fiesta bowl following the 1990 season. That's all I can think of aside from SWC teams like Houston and SMU playing in the Cotton Bowl in the '70's and early '80's.

Miami or Boise. I'd lay double-digits with either.

No offense WC but people like you are what is wrong with college football.

Why can't all kids have a shot at playing for the title? Why is it these mid major kids aren't good enough in your & many others eyes to play for the biggest prize in the sport? They bust their ass just like the players at big name schools yet for some reason their hard work doesn't account for much because god forbid they aren't attending powerhouses.

Every year, mid major teams are picking up more wins against the supposed big boys they weren't supposed to be able to compete with. It is the pathetic mentality of greedy snobs like you who are afraid to see a TCU, Colorado State, Hawaii, etc win it all.

If it was a level playing field, then we could truly call the best team just that, the BEST team. Until then we are stuck with the typical **** you to all the other kids who aren't in big name schools or conferences.

EGD,

Wow, that is an offensive post! I'm not going to attempt to speak for WC, but since I unfotunately fall into your "greedy snobs" characterization, allow me to retort.

WC never said anything subjective about the players for TCU OR the size of their school. He spoke objectively of their strength of schedule and justification for them playing in a BCS bowl...INSTEAD of a school with a loss AND tougher schedule. Now, if you want to make the arguement that TCU deserves a BCS bowl STRICTLY based on their record, then they should play Oklahoma (if they both win out) in the Sugar Bowl. I doubt anyone outside of Fort Worth would truly believe that game would be between the best two teams in the country.

LSUPete...thanks for the back-up.

Every Gamblers (wet) Dream...I don't know you..I know you don't know me. You say I (as one) am what is wrong with college football...and better yet...a SNOB???? An SOB, maybe...

First let me say that I am an advocate of a playoff system, one in which TCU has earned the right to play in, assuming they win their conference. Unfortunately we are stuck with a subjective system to determine not only who plays in the NC game, but the three remaining elite bowl games. My point was simply that since the system is subjective, then you have to rank (rate) the teams subjectively. Yes, TCU is undefeated, but they are benefiting from a VERY SOFT SCHEDULE!!! 87 my man, that is just 28 spots from the EASIEST SCHEDULE.

Would TCU be undefeated if they played in a BCS conference? Well, since it is a subjective question, I'll answer subjectively. NO. Would 30 or so teams be undefeated if they played TCU's schedule? Yes.

I rank teams based on how good the football team is, head-to-head, and of course, wins and losses. But I, and I think most other football fans, realize that TCU is not as good of a football team as Michigan, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, Virginia Tech...among others they are ranked ahead of in the BCS. If they played each 10 times, they probably lose 10 times.

The reasoning to reward the little guy because
they work just as hard as the big boys is rediculous. My highschool played 4A football, we won the state championship. Should an undefeated 3A team have the right to play in our championship game just because they work just as hard?

I take nothing away from what TCU has accomplished this year. But do they deserve to play in...let's say...the Rose Bowl as an at-large team? TCU might not have a .500 record if they played in the Pac 10 or Big 10, and these conferences are having down years. Shoot, TCU barely could beat Arizona, the worst team in the Pac 10, imagine if they had to play at USC, or Washington State, or Oregon State.

Tell me when in recent history (past 20 years) has a mid-major played in one of the elite four bowls? I'll answer...NEVER. Surely you spent many a sleepless night when you didn't get to see Tulane or BYU in one of the four elite bowls when they went undefeated. I know I did....(NOT).

I have no issues with you disagreeing with my opinion. In fact, I welcome them. I started this thread to create debate about a topic that I am passionate about...a national tournement for college football, the best sport in america.

If you feel better calling me names, so be it, you only make yourself look like a clown.

Actually, TCU is 116th out of 117 Div 1-A schools based on opponents winning %...wins on road have been tough...4 of 5 wins by 3points have been on road...probably beat Cinn @ home this wkend and definitely will beat winless SMU last game of season but have a tough game against S. Miss on road ...bottom line is they can only play who is on their schedule but it has been a soft one based on their league...reality is that most of the other top 10 teams would beat them by 3 TDs..

TCU has had a ton of injuries this year. They are better than some here believe. I, for one, would like to see them play one of the big boys. Hell, they waxed USC just a few years back in a bowl game. I know, USC did not give a shit, but they got whupped!

I think everyone that has posted in this thread makes some valid comments. TCU has won ugly this year over a pretty cream puff schedule. Kerry, you're right about the injuries (Madison, Gunn, etc.) but what team hasn't.

Sure CUSA only has a few teams that play at a decent level, but I know for a fact that TCU has hell getting non-conference teams to play them. Kinda funny how some 10-20 years ago the "Big Boys" came out of the woodwork to get TCU on their schedule. Now those "Big Boys" don't even want to talk.

I started out saying that everyone posting in this thread had some valid comments. But I don't see anything here that is worthy of getting so indignant over.

TCU will probably get tripped by Cin or SoMiss so all this will die. Or, BCS will just have to do what they have to do.

On a different note this year is the 65th anniversary of TCU's national championship in 1938.
