It's a no brainer - sure it certainly denotes southern pride but it also screams I hate negroes - how can anyone be in favor of it being endorsed by a state/government?

Sure...let's take it down.

Then let's also take down whatever flag was responsible for the deaths of the Chicago shootings over the last few decades.

A Democrat (Gov Fritz Hollings) put it up, so of course a Republican will have to get it taken down.

Why bring down the flag! Because one dopey nut is seen photographed with it, seems strange to me.

In April of 1861, a company of 60 free blacks marched into Richmond with a Confederate flag at the head of their column.
They volunteered their services to the military, but were sent home after being complimented for their show of Southern
patriotism (Barrow, 1995)

Many blacks fought for the south and some carried that flag to battle. I think the politically correct liberal leaning silliness has to stop. The looney lefties could learn a thing or two . from the blacks of the south 150 years ago.

It belongs in a museum. Not in any government office. It's a relic. It's not our flag. It's just part of our past.

I really don't get it. The flag had what to do with the church shooting?

I mean, other people in S.C. have been murdered before this. Where's the outrage?

Let the people of SC decide but they should take it down, it is offensive. Right or wrong, it s a different day and the pro Stars and Bars people are fighting a losing battle

Pressure will eventually lead to the flag coming down, even Nikki Haley, conservative Republican governor is saying it should come down. The momentum is building and the protests will soon begin. Take it down now and save a lot of time and money

The flag went on to the South Carolina state house in 1962 as a silent way for the SC government to let it be known they were against the civil rights movement.

To undo that gesture alone, the flag needs to be removed from all SC governmental institutions.

To lighten up this thread, is there one single poster here who would be opposed to completely removing these Confederate flags?

Yep.....the sooner we can admit that we have some ugly things in our history....the sooner we can get rid of it and get past it.

That's how I feel - it's certainly a state issue and the people of SC should decide what they want - but the flag screams of racism - I could care less what this twisted little faggot did - if I see a house hanging a Confederate flag I think there are racists residing there - imagine how blacks feel when government buildings hang it
