Pretty devastating. Don't understand why you quit now though. He was suspended for all of 2008 for academic reasons...went to CC in Mass and got his grades up. Rejoined the team. Then suspended again two weeks ago. It's still early but rumors have it that he was going to face another suspension (most likely academically related) so he just quit. Not too sure yet though.

Line in the Syracuse/Pitt game has already gone from -18.0 to -20.5 and will probably cross the 21.0 line soon.

He is stupid. Would have been better served being suspended for academics, instead of quitting. Part of the draft is perception. Granted they would have dug in and found out, but still better than quitting.

Why did Williams go to SU in the first place.

Because his only other offer was Buffalo - before Turner Gill. Syracuse BBall assistant Mike Hopkins actually recruited him. Was out looking at Jonny Flynn and Paul Harris and took a look at Mike. Recommended Greg Robinson look at him for football.

Starting OT Andrew Tiller, 2nd string RB Antwon Bailey, and DE Torry Ball (doesnt play) are all suspended this Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Supposedly Mike Williams has decided to come back but will serve his suspension this Saturday. Still not in stone though.

Looks like the natives are turning on one of their own?? I saw Marrones's weekly news conference where he got all choked up defending Paulus.. Not Happy with the fan's booing him... IMO Paulus is playing his freshman year of CFB and doing a decent job... Unfortunately he has ONLY ONE YEAR in program. I think he has shown glimpses of talent..Served a purpose bringing attention to a program that was SHOT...Struggles on the field are common with growing pains of an inexperienced player at his position.

I worked very closely with FB team when Coach Mac was there.. Keep in touch with Donny Mac...Coached at the HS Varsity level for several years.. You CAN'T FIX the mess that Robinson left that program in just ONE year.. The fact that this team is in EVERY game DESPITE its limitations is attribute to good coaching & NEW work-ethic brought in by Marrone and his staff.. As far as Williams is concerned, when he was re-instated back in August it was only a matter of time before something like this happened... Cuse over the years has recruited OUR SHARE of KNUCKLEHEADS, guys like Derrick Coleman, Devandorf, Paul Harris along with the 19 other guys that walked out on Marrone because they DID NOT want to conform to the NEW WORK-ETHIC he brought in...Williams - based on his character issues - was a time-bomb waiting to go off.. Time to move on and move forward.. Marrone needs at least two recruiting years to bring in his players.. Locals need to be patient.. Part of recruiting is showing a HS kid a FULL HOUSE with supportive fans...A half-filled Dome with booing fans WILL NOT help Marrone expedite the recruiting process...I am a bit dissappointed because I thought the locals would understand that this is a slow, painful process.. Robinson simply DESTROYED this once-proud program...Hopefully, they get one signature win before the year is over.. :pope:

Agree completely. P squared fucked it up before he left.

He spent too much time trying to bring in the next Donovan McNabb and forgot theres another 21 positions to field.

Syracuse hasn't had the best of luck either through the years. From failed recruits, injuries, academics....you name it.

Paulus has actually done better than I expected - but I wasn't too big on the move from the beginning. Sure it gave us a boost in a weak position and sold some seats - but not much more. I would have rather let Nassib deal with the bumps and bruises and come back with experience. Maybe Nassib isn't the future...could be Loeb or incoming Kinder or Miller - but it still gives you a serviceable back up with live game experience. Thats something you can't teach. I do believe had Paulus chose football back in 2004 he would be one hell of a QB...but hindsight is 20-20. He's got a lot of options when he's done as Syracuse.

As for Williams and the other suspensions - a lot of guys just got use to the powder puff regime before Marrone. GRob didn't have any real rules or restrictions nor did he really challenge his guys. I can see how a lot of kids are having trouble adapting to Marrones hard nose old school mentality. Going to take a little while to rid of the muck and get a full group of guys who want to work their asses of to wear Orange and Blue. And I'll wait.

And yes - our fan base is pretty pathetic. I've had season tickets for 7 years (when I turned 15 and got my first job) and will continue to do so as long as I am in the area. I kind of bought some of the excuses...horrible team...economy...outrageous costs. But when they offered free tickets to students and $10 tickets to a top ten team...and theres 20,000 empty seats. Thats pathetic.

No Robinson just buried the program even further. Robinson can easily go down as one of the worst head coaches in the history of college football. i'm not just talking record wise. this guy didn't have a clue. he didn't even have them on a weight lifting program, something in this day and age is a must. perfect example of a coach who is better as a coordinator, who doesn't even seem to be good at that either (see Michigan's defense)

as for the Mike Williams situation this is what my sources close to the program said happened.
After Saturday's game Williams, RB Antwon Bailey, and someone else went to the Turning Stone casino, about 20 miles east of syracuse. according to the ncaa athletes are not allowed at casino's which is a story in itself. well apparently on the way home, they got in a small accident and Marrone found out. he was going to suspend williams for this weeks game, and he got upset saying he just got off suspension. williams said the whole team breaks curfew, so marrone asked the team who broke curfew that night, and more then 2/3 of the team raised their hands. williams then aksed if he was going to suspend everyone , and said i'm leaving
the next day he cooled down, some people probably told him he was throwing away millions of dollars (i'm sure NFL GM's aren't going to think highly of a trouble maker, who quit on his team) so he asked marrone to be back on the team. marrone took a team vote, and the team approved. i still believe he will be suspended for saturdays game, but that is not definite.

Yeah all four went to the Casino. My guess is they weren't there to gamble but probably at some type of Halloween event at the Lava nightclub. Either way - they shouldn't have been out there until 5:30 in the morning.

And I've heard Mike is out for good. I heard he was back on the team through the vote as well - but then his facebook farewell post last night didn't seem like a player who was returning.
