Heavy rains flooded the Tulin River in southern Playa Hermosa sending some of the local crocodile population into the lineup tearing up a young gringos leg at the knee and mauling a woman's hand in the waters just out front of the Backyard Bar.
My son just getting back to the states after a three-month stay in Hermosa got a call from one of his buddies telling him of the attacks. He said he wasn't surprised at all by these attacks, considering just about every time it rains the crocs come to the beach. Anyone familiar with the area knows to look for the spikes in the lineup, and when they show the locals go scrambling for the beach.

He was told by one of the local crew that there is a pic of his friend local pro Gilbert Brown surfing with a crock in the face of the wave.

This apparently happened in rio segundo, next to the almedro. There's a swamp on the other side of the small "bridge" where a caiman lives.

Yes, that's what I heard that it was near "El Almendro". I've seen that sucker a bunch of times, I even saw some people trying to catch him with some bait and a rope but they couldn't. Hopefuly they'll relocate them now, too bad this happened.

Wow!!!. I was down in Cosa Rica 4 years ago and I remember driving from San Jose to Jaco and crossing the bridge with the monster crocs below that everyone looks at. And these are salt water crocs. I went surfing @ Playa Hermosa every day for a week since the waves are much better their than Jaco. Its a very heavy wave. Well we saw a small "baby" croc upstream but nothing big. The locals called the crocs "tranquillo" calm. I guess they were wrong.

I believe only Australia has saltwater crocs. Ours live in river mouths and occasionally go out to the ocean to feed, but they need fresh water to survive. I've seen crocs in Jaco, Hermosa and Tulin, this kid was just very unlucky to get attacked.
