Red Sox cold for bettors with Peavy starting

It certainly hasn't been a banner first half of the season for the Boston Red Sox, but the AL East club has been ice cold for bettors when Jake Peavy gets the start.

The righty is an abysmal 1-7 on the season and the Red Sox have dropped six-straight ball games that he's started.

Part of the Town of Hempstead, Lynbrook went by several names before adopting the current moniker, a play on the borough of Brooklyn. Lynbrook is perhaps best known to a national audience as the setting for the show Everybody Loves Raymond. Among the non-fictional residents have been popular television personalities Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan and former Newsday sports columnist Tony Kornheiser of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption. During the 1920's, there was a Lynbrook Stakes contested under selling conditions by the Metropolitan Jockey Club at Jamaica Racecourse. THERE'S NO TELLING - This horse coming off a nice race in the last month is a win candidate in my opinion. This gelding's last speed figure earned on June 13th is number one in last race Equibase speed figures. LAWNSWOOD - This horse is in first-rate condition right now. Ran second last time out and comes back soon. The 93 latest race speed rating looks sound in black and white. This thoroughbred has increased his speed ratings in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth considering when its time to bet. This horse has a lot of class. A good sign in a grass race like we have today. PETEIZUM - This thoroughbred coming off a solid effort in the last 30 days is a strong challenger in my book. This thoroughbred ran off the board at Arlington last time around the track on the soft turf. He should improve in this event on a fast track. I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough races since the vacation and should be fit. Horse made up some ground down the stretch in the last race on Jun 14th at Arlington. That race is better than it looked. This gelding gets a weight break of -5 pounds from last race. Certainly could make the difference right here in this race. TWO LIONS - Widely used handicapping theory - 3rd or 4th start after a layoff generally leads to a big effort. This one is live today. I just may give this one a good shot. Should rebound off last race where he did run out of the money, but was within 5 lengths at the end. Forgive the out of the money finish on the off track last time out. Race 1

(2) THISISHOWWEROLL nice-looking colt exploded late in the qualifier for the win showing a big burst of speed. (9) KING OF THE SWAMP put in an excellent debut showing good pace on both ends of the mile. (3) QUINNOCCHIO has some ability and should be better in his second lifetime start.

Race 2

(3) QUEEN BEE filly looks to be a little more advanced than the others at this stage. (1) BI POLAR ROSE will look to make it two straight to start her career and has lots of room to improve. (4) FOX VALLEY YOKO raced well in the qualifier and finds an inexperienced field.

Race 3

(6) PARKLANE SPARKLE filly has a ton of upside and a big engine. (5) GET THE TERROR was hit in the face with the whip in her last race causing the break. The 3-year-old is one of few in the race who can pace with the top choice. (10) BOXED CHOCOLATES has been off for six weeks and could need a start.

Race 4

(7) GET YOUR CAMO ON 2-year-old makes his debut off a super qualifier. (6) A REAL HOOSIER flashed ability and has proven connections. (8) GOLD STAR IMAGE doesn't look like much on paper but could show significant improvement in his second go.

Race 5

(9) MIRIAM'S JET needed his first start and raced the best of all from way back. (4) MAZEPPA HANOVER has been much better for the new connections and should keep moving forward. (3) ELOQUENCE well bred filly has a nice pedigree and should offer a big price in a tough race to handicap.

Race 6

(3) ONE SURE APACHE takes a huge drop in class and should hit the board with a good effort. (1) NITROEN FUSE gets the best post and owns a good brush when timed right. (7) BLUEBIRD CHEETAH has been off a few months but does own ability when tight.

Race 7

In a wide open and tough race to handicap (10) I'M REAL GOOD drops back down to a level that is much more manageable; fires early. (4) READY will be tough to beat if he makes the gate. (5) IM A DAN FOOL is a bit of a question mark coming off the scratch but his best would get his picture taken.

Race 8

(5) LITTLE MS CHRISSY has little to show for her efforts so far in the 4-year-old campaign but that could change in this spot. (4) FOX VALLEY VETO appears to be getting better and was razor sharp last start, however the gelding does face a much tougher field. (3) GRC TRAVEL KING is only good for a few starts; use underneath.

Race 9

(2) ONE JAZZY LADY should be sharper off the victory after a few weeks off. (3) KESONS ALLURE is just now rounding into form after a long layoff and has some ability. (6) ALWAYS A ROBIN well bred filly raced evenly last out but should find this spot much easier.

Race 10

(1) DOTS BIGBOY looks tough to beat at this level with a decent effort. (2) THREE NEW DAWNS was no good on the tight turns at Maywood but was better on the big track. (8) FOX VALLEY IVAN is hit or miss but a good effort puts him in the money.
