KEY STAT: Randers didn't allow their opponents a single shot on target in their last Superliga fixture

EXPERT VERDICT: Both these sides kicked off their Danish Superliga campaigns with victory last week. Newly promoted Hobro stunned Odense with their late winner, but they face a sterner task against an experienced Randers backline. The home side will be vying for a European spot and should have enough.

RECOMMENDATION: Randers

KEY STAT: Sonderjyske conceded 53 goals in the Danish Superliga last season

EXPERT VERDICT: Esbjerg opened up with an extremely sluggish performance against Randers last week, seemingly suffering from their 4000-mile round trip to Kazakhstan for a Europa League qualifier. Presuming they have sufficiently recovered, they have enough quality to see off an unspectacular Sonderjyske side who only just avoided relegation last season.

RECOMMENDATION: Esbjerg

KEY STAT: Silkeborg scored an impressive 67 goals on the way to the Danish second-tier title last year

EXPERT VERDICT: Silkeborg made an impressive start to their campaign by holding title favourites FC Copenhagen to a draw last week and are capable of frustrating Brondby with a similar performance. The second-favourites for the Superliga title were convincingly beaten at Midtjylland last week and look set for another stern test.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

DRF SARATOGA

BEST BET: Flamingo Lane (2nd race)

First Race
1. Sunday Sonnet 2. Miss Always Ready 3. Cool Comfort
SUNDAY SONNET was solidly backed against a well connected half-sister to To Honor and Serve and held well after dueling in dash debut; bred to stretch out on turf, as half-sister Pianist is a dual Grade 3 grass stakes winner. MISS ALWAYS READY is a full sister to More Than Real, a Saratoga turf debut winner who won BC Juvenile Fillies Turf later in 2010; four grass works. COOL COMFORT led briefly, was eased back off the pace and got second despite weaving around greenly in the stretch July 10.

Second Race
1. Flamingo Lane 2. Edie 3. Love the Breeding
Abigail Adsit took the blinkers off FLAMINGO LANE last winter, and that has made all the difference through four wins from five starts this year on turf and dirt; freshened after beating two next-out winners decisively in early May, and returned to win again with a new top Beyer in late June. EDIE has won twice since returned from a layoff and back with Chris Englehart; she was able to transfer good form from Belmont to Saratoga last year. LOVE THE BREEDING is a four-time winner this year, but is the odd sort of dirt-only entrant who much prefers a dry track.

Third Race
1. Paulassilverlining 2. High Dollar Woman 3. Hopefaithjoy
PAULASSILVERLINING is a half-sister to Dads Caps, winner of this year's Grade 1 Carter Handicap for breeder-owner Vincent Scuderi; several works including July 7 gate breeze match up with By the Moon ($14), opening-day debut winner for Michelle Nevin with 77 Beyer. HIGH DOLLAR WOMAN worked well enough to bring $675,000 at OBS March sale; bullet works before and after so-so unveiling against Sunday Sonnet (see 1st) suggest she's capable of better. HOPEFAITHJOY (one sibling 5 for 30) and/or CURALINA (two sibs 2 for 12 & 3 for 12) obviously rate consideration for top 2YO outfit if money shows.

Fourth Race
1. Aslan 2. Social Affair 3. Decisive Edge
If this maiden route is switched to dirt (at 1 1/8 miles), things may boil down to a rematch between ASLAN and LUNAR ROVER, who were a neck apart at Belmont last month and have improved with each start. At 1 3/8 miles on turf, SOCIAL AFFAIR would be third back from a layoff and blinkers on after making progress downstate; may turn the tables on DECISIVE EDGE. The latter chased throughout and remained clear of Social Affair when second best for the third straight time May 30; working well for return and could fall out to an easy lead from post 2 heading into the first of three turns.

Fifth Race
1. Darnley Bay 2. First Whippoorwill 3. Holiday Drama
If switched to the main track (at 1 1/8 miles), DARNLEY BAY was second in the Spa slop last summer and has since changed hands seven times via the claim box, running well for just about everyone; can set or stalk the pace depending on who else stays in. On turf at 1 1/16 miles, FIRST WHIPPOORWILL was wide early and found best stride late for second behind in-form Flamingo Lane (see 2nd race) in seasonal bow; just missed here in 2012, handles wet dirt, too. HOLIDAY DRAMA can't stand up in slop, but rebounded from that debacle first off a claim to win twice at Delaware Park when back on grass; fits well here.

Sixth Race
1. Mack Miller 2. Dyker Beach 3. Charitable
MACK MILLER (second to Jim Dandy entrant Kid Cruz last fall) returned from a layoff July 9 and showed improvement in first start as a gelding; should the rains come he has handled the local slop okay. DYKER BEACH beat the top pick by five lengths posting eighth runner-up finish; he's back on relatively short rest after paired Beyer tops through all-out drives, and could be susceptible to a regression. CHARITABLE had little trouble with off-the-turf maiden claimers when haltered from first dirt start; lone entrant to have won at seven furlongs.

Seventh Race
1. Golden Cheetah 2. Sultry Warrior 3. Lemon and Honey
The far outside post shouldn't be a hindrance for a deep closer like GOLDEN CHEETAH, who can let the pack go and tuck in early; posted best Beyer on this course last summer, and her only turf race this season was against Grade 1-placed Summer Solo. SULTRY WARRIOR gets a change of scene and drops to claimers first out for trainer winning at a good clip in 2014; figures close if she summons an effort similar to maiden win at 51-1. LEMON AND HONEY plugged along evenly against similar company first time off a claim; versatile filly has virtually identical Beyer tops turf and dirt.

Eighth Race
1. River Rocks 2. Eastwood 3. Slan Abhaile
RIVER ROCKS came off the bench and pressed a sizzling pace before drawing clear first out for John Terranova; several workouts in the ensuing six weeks indicate he may go well right back. EASTWOOD was caught late at 8-5 most recently, matching best Beyer earned a year earlier; prefer him at six furlongs, but he's fairly consistent and favorably drawn. SLAN ABHAILE beat the top pick at Churchill Downs in 2013, and won here three starts later; disappointed in three starts earlier in the year, and has since been gelded.

Ninth Race
1. Flashy American 2. Antipathy 3. Stanwyck
FLASHY AMERICAN was taken out of her best game chasing Belle Gallantey's slow pace in the Delaware Handicap and gets a better situation returning to Saratoga, where only loss from three starts was a solid second to favored Authenticity in 2013 Shuvee; wet track a plus. ANTIPATHY was up close early, dropped five lengths off blistering fractions and held resolutely in Ogden Phipps; talented filly remains eligible for second-level allowance conditions, could face pressure from SWINGER'S PARTY early on. STANWYCK finished up last year taking Grade 3 stake at a big price, and has been a bit faster at 5; down from Grade 1 company for John Shirreffs, who sent out a layoff winner here Thursday.

Tenth Race
1. Touching My Toes 2. Milkyyourway 3. Thatza Wrap
If switched to dirt (at 1 1/8 miles), TOUCHING MY TOES had a useful tightener sprinting off a layoff, and would likely be on or near the early lead stretching back out; handles slop. On turf at 1 1/16 miles, MILKYYOURWAY has beaten several of these (at least once) while racking up a trio of second-place finishes this season, all on courses rated good; tough to trust at 1 for 22 overall, but in good form and faster than these. THATZA WRAP confirmed she's clearly better on the grass with late run to win up a length or so behind WILLOW U most recently; note Jose Ortiz opted to stick with Milkyyourway.

Del Mar - Race #3 - Post: 3:05pm - Claiming - 9.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $28,000 Class Rating: 96

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#5 MALIBU WAY (ML=8/1)
#1 STREET SERENADE (ML=8/1)
#3 FRIENDLY BANTER (ML=3/1)
#4 DR. SPIN (ML=15/1)
#6 WOODMANS LUCK (ML=7/2)

MALIBU WAY - As the only speedy sort in the race, I expect this horse to be long gone. You should throw out that last event at Arlington on the soft turf where he finished off the board. Should do well in this race on a fast track. This horse has increased his speed ratings from a fig of 73 to 92 to 96 in succession. STREET SERENADE - This horse has increased his speed figs in each of the last two races. That kind of progress is worth taking note of. FRIENDLY BANTER - Desormeaux and Hess partnered together are a handicapper's friend. This gelding garnered a good speed rating of 104 in his last event. That speed rating should be strong enough to win this time around. The improved speed figures over the last 3 races is great. Hess drops him in this race fit and ready to go. DR. SPIN - Really have to figure this race horse is going to be right there at the finish line. WOODMANS LUCK - 'Espy' comes to saddle up after getting to know the gelding in the last race. Another way to assign class is earnings per start. This horse has the topmost in the bunch. I think he'll be close at the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TENKILLER KID (ML=4/1), #2 WELCOME HOME RYAN (ML=5/1), #9 USBEK THUNDER (BRZ) (ML=6/1),

TENKILLER KID - Based on the pace scenario in this race, this horse doesn't fit in here. With a single front-runner and this animal having to race from behind, he sure has a tough assignment. WELCOME HOME RYAN - On a downward moving cycle. Equibase speed figs keep decreasing. USBEK THUNDER (BRZ) - This pony will have a tough time winning this 1 1/8 miles dirt race. He just doesn't win races very often.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #5 MALIBU WAY on the win end if we get at least 6/1 odds

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 2 ARQUITECTO 2/5

# 3 CANTARO 4/1

# 1 RAFAELILLO 12/1

ARQUITECTO is my choice. Has been running solidly and has among the top speed in the race for today's distance. This gelding with Diaz in the saddle makes him a solid choice. He looks very strong in this slot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint. CANTARO - Will more than likely be one of the front-runners of the bunch going into the halfway point of the contest. This gelding has been constatntly running well in his latest outings. RAFAELILLO - Is a solid contender - given the 58 speed figure from his most recent race. He has garnered very strong figs under today's conditions and should fare well versus this group of horses.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 5 LEO'S IN THE HOUSE 8/5

# 6 CASTRATI 6/1

# 1 STERLING REMARK 3/1

LEO'S IN THE HOUSE looks to be a quite good contender. Should expect this animal to be close up at the finish versus these mounts. This animal is prominent in this group in earnings per start at the distance/surface. Is hard not to consider given the company run in lately. CASTRATI - Formidable average speed figures in dirt sprint races make this equine a solid contender. Over time, this handler has a formidable ROI at this distance/surface. STERLING REMARK - Had one of the best Equibase Speed Figures of this group of horses in this race in his last affair.

Arlington - Race #5 - Post: 2:56pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $33,000 Class Rating: 86

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#6 CANETTE (ML=5/2)
#1 BONITA SONG (ML=7/2)

CANETTE - I like to play horses that faced open company in their last race and drop into state bred races. This filly fits the bill. The July 18th clash at Arlington was at a class level of (91). Dropping down the ladder based on class rating points significantly, so she should be in a good spot. I like to see consistency in a racehorse. Look at this filly's PPs. Almost always in the money. This filly's last rating is strong enough to score here, I'll play her right back in today's event. This filly is tops in EPS (earnings per start). Take a good look at this thoroughbred in the paddock. BONITA SONG - Horses that finish in the place spot in Maiden races and finish well ahead of the show horse are generally good bets next time out. Have to give this filly a good chance. Ran a nice race last time around the track within the last month or so.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BATTLEBROOK (ML=4/1), #4 ALITTLEBITOFCANDY (ML=9/2), #2 IM MONEYINTHEBANK (ML=6/1),

BATTLEBROOK - Don't think that this filly has value at 4/1 in today's event. ALITTLEBITOFCANDY - Can't wager on this steed in today's sprint of 6 furlongs. Hasn't even hit the board in a sprint affair lately. IM MONEYINTHEBANK - The pace scenario just isn't too promising for this speedball. Many other horses would have to scratch to help her chances.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - CANETTE - Changing surface from the grass, at Arlington, to the dirt today, this steed has a good chance to get her first victory.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Play #6 CANETTE to win if you can get odds of 2/1 or more

DRF HARNESS

Race 7 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet (29 - 50 / $119.60): FOX VALLEY QATAR (6th)

Spot Play: SUMMER SHANDY (7th)

Race 1

(7) ENCHANTRESS LADY is one of two horses racing uncoupled for the trainer. The Well bred 4-year-old mare will look to make it three wins in as many starts. (2) KY LUCKY two-year-old was the driver's choice but does face older along with a much better field. (9) SPEEDY ALBER went a good effort in his second start back off the layoff but gets a tough post to navigate from.

Race 2

(1) MIRIAM'S JET lightly raced filly draws inside but is a very inconsistent from week to week. Her first start of the year was by far her best effort and she would need something similar to that. (3) MYSTICAL NECTAR didn't miss by much at Hoosier last start and has lots of room for improvement. (10) FOOLISH BEHAVIOR probably won't be pushed too hard from a tough post with lots of races ahead in only her third lifetime start. However it appears the two-year-old has the most ability and upside in the field.

Race 3

(7) SCAT KITTY CAT mare comes off a scratch but if the mare is ready she could be tough to catch; fires early. (1) LUVALADY has some gait issues but is well bred and could be turning a corner; threat. (8) ALLPOWERNOEMOTION two-year-old colt faces older in his second lifetime start but can handle this group with some racing luck.

Race 4

(8) FOX VALLEY YOKO filly gets sent out for red-hot trotting connections and should only improve in his third lifetime start. (5) FOX VALLEY HARRAH will offer a big price and kicked home nicely last out. (4) PERSUASIVE LOOK raced evenly last week but gets a good post to save some ground before shaking loose late.

Race 5

(4) IM A DAN FOOL four-year-old gelding had no business just missing last out off of dull cover. A repeat of that effort earns him his second win of the year. (6) I'M REAL GOOD tough to leave the connections off the ticket lately; fires early. (3) READY has really started to show some promise in his last three.

Race 6

(6) FOX VALLEY QATAR two-year-old trotter will look to cash a good payday staying undefeated and put in an exceptional effort last out. The gelding looked like a seasoned pro in only his third lifetime start. (3) RT HABENERO could be a player late with a smooth trip from a great post. (2a) SOUTHERNCOMFORTZONE raced greenly last out first up showing good fight late. Two year-old has plenty of plenty of room to improve.

Race 7

(4) SUMMER SHANDY driver opted to sit inside only to come with a ton of pace once shaking free last start. The nice-looking pacer will offer a fair price and is the horse to beat with any kind of trip. (3) CS EYE went a huge effort last start pacing a lifetime best; threat. (5) ROLLINLIKEAHOTSHOT impeccably bred gelding has been improving with every start.

Race 8

(9) PURITY has been facing much tougher in Indiana. Any one of her last two wins would run up the score against this field. (5) THE BRUZILIAN BLUR mare takes a big drop in class but doesn't win often and will take heavy tote action. (8) GENTLE JANET is on the improve and one of few threats to the top choice.

Race 9

(2) JUST FOR FUN is a very risky play off the break last start. The 4-year-old mare was in a perfect spot only to squander it. If she minds her manners she can win her first start of the year. (3) ROYAL TABS is a huge disappointment after showing promise as a 2-year-old but the well bred filly finds a very inconsistent field. (10) FANCY LABEL mare will need a lot of racing luck but could hit the ticket at a price.

Race 10

(6) MARMARIA filly gets a great driver change and will be given an aggressive drive. (5) DREAM ROLL filly is starting to find her rhythm and does her best work late. (2) PARK LANE CRYSTAL is 0 for the year and has burned cash in this spot multiple times, however the pacing mare adds lasix for the first time which could make a difference.

At the Gate - Sunday
By Mike Dempsey

It is Haskell Day at Monmouth Park with six stakes including the $1 million William Hill Haskell Invitational (G1) where the brilliant filly Untapable will take on the boys.

My Best Plays Report for Sunday includes all six stakes from the Jersey Shore and it will be a welcome change to switch coasts, as Del Mar has been very frustrating.

Both the main track and the newly installed turf course at Del Mar have been playing fast, and there were two track records set on Saturday. There also were four fatalities, three on the turf course, and there will be no turf racing on Sunday.

I’m sticking the east coast on Sunday.

Over at Saratoga, the blinkers really seemed to help Wicked Strong who was a good-looking winner of the $600,000 Jim Dandy (G1), with my top pick Tonalist having to settle for the runner up spot.

We only managed two winners on top on Saturday at Saratoga, but they both paid well. Razzle Jazil pulled off the upset in the sixth race, returning $17.60. It was the 46th straight year that trainer Jonathan Sheppard has saddled a winner at the Saratoga meeting.

Technically, Sheppard did not saddle the winner as he was at Parx. I got a Tweet from his assistant Keri Brion who actually saddled the winner. It was the first time she had sent out a horse at the Spa.

We knocked down a nice exacta that paid $116.50 and trifecta that paid $442.50.

We also had the winner in the finale, with Elroi getting up late and returning $16.00. We missed out on the exacta and trifecta.

Sunday’s Saratoga card looks solid, and we have a wide-open field lined up to go in the $200,000 Shuvee Handicap (G3). My analysis is below.

Here is today’s opening race from Saratoga to get the day off to a good start:

SAR Race 1 Md Sp Wt (1:00 ET)
3 Miss Always Ready 5-2
1 Sunday Sonnet 3-1
6 Bebop Raindrop 8-1
4 Cool Comfort 4-1

Analysis: Miss Always Ready is sent out by a barn that always has juveniles ready to go and has already won with three at the meeting here. This filly was a $400,000 Keeneland purchase by More Than Ready out of the stakes winner Miss Seffens ($502,600) who has dropped a couple of winners including one turf winner, top earner turf stakes winner More Than Real ($652,051). Solid works on the morning tab and Johnny V. is in the irons. She looks ready to fire for Pletcher who is off to a good start at the meeting.

Sunday Sonnet dueled for the early lead and finished gamely while unable to match strides late with the winner in a runner up finish on the main track at Belmont Park. She was sent off at just under 3-1 in a field of eight. She may take to turf, she is out of a Red Ransom mare that won on turf and has dropped a couple of winners including turf stakes winner Pianist ($498,700).

Wagering
WIN: 3 to win at 9-5 or better.

TRI: 1,3 / 1,3,4,6 / 1,3,4,6,8

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Saratoga:

SAR Race 9 The Shuvee Handicap G3 (5:15 ET)
5 Stanwyck 3-1
3 Antipathy 9-5
2 Flashy American 5-2
6 Hot Stones 10-1

Analysis: Stanwyck is returning off a three-month break after checking in third in the Apple Blossom (G1) at Oaklawn Park and she may end up getting overlooked on the tote in this spot. She came with a five wide bid and flattened out late, beaten 2 1/4 lengths by the winner Close Hatches, who came back to win the Ogden Phipps (G1) in her next start. The runner up On Fire Baby won next out, taking the La Troien (G1) at Churchill Downs and the fourth place finisher Let Faith Arise also won next out, taking the Adoration (G3). The mare has lost four in a row since taking the Turnback the Alarm (G3) last fall in her stakes debut, but landed in the money in each of her four losses. The Shirreffs barn is 16% winners (with a +ROI) with runners coming back off a 61-180 day layoff.

Antipathy prompted the early pace and held on gamely to miss by just a neck in a third place finish in a loaded Ogden Phipps (G1). The filly earned a career top speed fig in the effort and raced over a surface that was kinder to horses coming from off the pace although the winner Close Hatches was up front. She has had enough time to avoid a bounce and these are not as tough as she faced last out. Two back she ran a good second behind Belle Gallantey, who was fifth in the Phipps and then came back to win the Delaware 'Cap (G1) on July 12. After seeing 30-1 last out the 9-5 morning line sure looks puny.

Wagering
WIN: #5 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 3,5 / 2,3,5,6
TRI: 3,5 / 2,3,5,6 / 1,2,3,5,6

Today’s Featured Race of the Day from Monmouth Park:

MTH Race 9 The Matchmaker G3 (3:59 ET)
9 Watsdachances 3-1
10 Irish Mission 9-2
11 Emotional Kitten 4-1
2 Starstruck 6-1

Analysis: Watsdachances returns off a two month break her after a game second last out in the Gallorette 'Cap (G3) at Pimlico. The filly was outrun in the early going and came with a good late run, having to steady briefly at the quarterpole. The winner of the race was Somali Lemonade, who won the Diana (G1) at the Spa in her most recent outing. The Chad Brown trainee figures to move forward in just her second start since last November.

Irish Mission was a good second last out against the boys in the two mile Belmont Gold Cup, beaten a length for the top spot. Two back over yielding footing against the gals she was a decent third in the Sheepshead Bay (G2) behind repeat winner Riposte, who came back to win the New York (G2) in her next start on June 28 at Belmont Park. The cut back in distance will suit and while she has won just one of her last dozen starts, she has been in a few tough spots and she looks like a good fit here with her best. Decent value if she goes off near her 12-1 morning line.

Wagering
WIN: #9 to win at 5-2 or better.
EX: 9,10 / 2,9,10,11
TRI: 9,10 / 2,9,10,11 / 2,7,9,10,11

Live Longshots:
These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Saratoga
R1: #6 Bebop Raindrop 8-1
R3: #3 Paulasilverlining 10-1
R4: #7 Penobscot 12-1
R5: #2 Asheroony 20-1
R6: #1 Captain Toews 8-1

R8: $3 Cozzetti 8-1
R9: #6 Hot Stones 10-1
R10: #2 The Ten Cups 10-1

MLB Comp Pick for Sunday, July 27, 2014: 3:35 PM ET

MLB (927) DETROIT TIGERS VS (928) LOS ANGELES ANGELS

Take: (927) DETROIT TIGERS

Reason: Your Bonus Play for Sunday, July 27, 2014 is in the AL between the Detroit Tigers and LA Angels. Anaheim is a terrific offensive park and Detroit is 4th in baseball in runs scored, second in slugging, third in on base percentage. Starter Rick Porcello (12-5, 3.42 ERA) is on his way to 20 wins. He recently had a three game stretch allowing no runs! He has a 1.16 WHIP and will face the Angels, a team he held to just one run over seven innings the last time he faced them. He is 8-2 on the road this season with a 3.00 ERA. The Tigers are 13-3 in their last 16 road games vs. a team with a winning record. They face Hector Santiago (2-7), who walks far too many batters, so grab the first place visitors. Your Bonus Play is on the Tigers.
