For you folks who enjoy a little Thoroughbred Racing History to accompany your handicapping efforts this afternoon ... this race honors the career of the California-bred mare who won twelve of her thirty-six starts and who secured her place in Thoroughbred history as the dam of Sunday Silence, the 1989 Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic winner who was voted American Horse of the Year, inducted in the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame in 1996, and who was the Leading sire in Japan for thirteen straight years between 1995 and 2007. Wishing Well died at Coolmore Stud in Ireland at age twenty-four in 1999 as a result of complications from colic. In this year's version, #6 PURIM'S DANCER shares the speed honors in this stakes field sprinting at, or about, today's distance of 6½ furlongs on the turf, and has produced "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in five straight, hitting the board in three, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in her 3rd race back. Carreno comes to race again after getting to know the gelding in the last race. You have to like that most recent race speed figure, 79, which is the best most recent race rating of this bunch. BONITA ROCK - After the contest aboard this animal on January 27th, the jockey is going to be acquainted with the gelding much better. This gelding was sharp enough to post a 'top two' workout recently. I think he's ready for today's event. Recent Equibase speed figures show powerful pattern of improvement. LUCKY BLUFF - Trainer Bennett moves this one to a lower class rank to face a lower rated field. Look for a strong race given the class advantage. The improved Equibase speed figs over the last 3 races is solid. Bennett drops him in this affair in great shape. GENERAL HOUSTON - Have to give this gelding a chance. Ran a strong contest last time out within the last thirty days. Strong return on investment for this jock and trainer duo. Look at this gelding's PP lines. With each event he keeps getting closer.
