KEY STAT: Seville have scored the fewest away goals in La Liga (six)

EXPERT VERDICT: It’s extraordinary that a team so high in the table has yet to record an away win this season – Seville have failed to win any of their 14 league and European road games. Rayo, unbeaten in five in the league and having scored at least two goals in five of their last six, can continue their recovery.

RECOMMENDATION: Rayo Vallecano

KEY STAT: The last five meetings have finished in draws

EXPERT VERDICT: A 120th-minute winner in their replay with Liverpool set up this fifth-round tie, but West Ham have won just once in normal time in their last seven outings. Those poor recent displays from the Hammers will give Blackburn hope, but Rovers will have to rely on another off-day from the visitors if they are to progress.

KEY STAT: Dortmund have kept clean sheets in four of their last five fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Bayer Leverkusen held Bayern Munich to a 0-0 draw at the BayArena earlier this month and can achieve similar result second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who are 13 points above them. Both teams were involved in the Europa League on Thursday with Leverkusen winning 1-0 away to Sporting Lisbon and Dortmund succeeding 2-0 at home to Porto.

KEY STAT: Real Madrid have scored two goals or more in nine of their last ten matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Real Madrid had to work hard for their 2-0 success away to Roma on Wednesday and may have to dig deep for three points against Malaga, who have left their poor early-season results behind. Malaga have won three of their last four home games, including a 1-0 success over Atletico Madrid, but have not beaten Real in six attempts.

RECOMMENDATION: Real Madrid to win 2-1

KEY STAT: Manchester City are the Premier League’s joint-top scorers with 48 goals

EXPERT VERDICT: The rug has been pulled from under the feet of Manchester City’s season after back-to-back Premier League home defeats to Leicester and Tottenham, and things would go from bad to worse if they were sent crashing out of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge. However, at the prices it could be worth backing City to bounce back with a win.

RECOMMENDATION: Man City

KEY STAT: Stuttgart are unbeaten in their last seven league games

EXPERT VERDICT: Stuttgart are in a seven-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga and can keep it going by drawing with Schalke at the Veltins-Arena. After the German winter break Stuttgart were one point above the drop zone but they are rising fast and can trouble a Schalke side who drew 0-0 away to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League on Thursday.

Preview: Penguins (29-19) at Sabres (24-28)

Date: February 21, 2016 12:30 PM EDT

An illness to Marc-Andre Fleury has Jeff Zatkoff on alert again, but the Pittsburgh Penguins might be more concerned about what's happening at the other end of the ice.

With their starting goaltender unknown, the Penguins look for some offensive improvement in order to continue their dominance of the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday.

Fleury has been terrific of late, going 3-1-1 with a .942 save percentage over his last five games. He was unable to keep that strong stretch going Saturday, falling ill and pressing Zatkoff into an unexpected start. The backup made 16 saves in a 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay, despite Pittsburgh (29-19-8) holding a 39-20 shot advantage.

"That's my role," said Zatkoff, who is 2-6-1 with a 2.96 GAA over his last 10 games. "That's my job to be able to come in and give the team a chance and to give him a night off. Unfortunately we didn't get it done. I didn't get it done."

Zatkoff may find himself in the same situation Sunday since Fleury's status is unknown. However, Zatkoff had a career-high 50 saves in a 4-3 win over Buffalo (24-28-7) on Oct. 29.

The Penguins have averaged 4.14 goals during a seven-game winning streak over the Sabres, part of a stretch of 16 wins in their last 20 games against Buffalo.

Pittsburgh hasn't come close to that kind of production lately, particularly on the road. The Penguins have tallied just 16 times during a 2-2-3 stretch away from home.

Improving on that might be tougher with Evgeni Malkin (lower-body injury) possibly out for an eighth straight game overall. Sidney Crosby has just two points over the last five games, both coming in Thursday's 6-3 win over Detroit.

Facing the Sabres should get him untracked. Crosby has 47 points in 29 career meetings. He had two assists against the Sabres in October.

The Penguins are currently sitting in the Eastern Conference's last wild-card spot, and while Buffalo is 11 points behind it's showing some signs of life lately. The Sabres have outscored opponents 15-6 during a 3-0-1 stretch after beating Columbus 4-0 on Friday behind Robin Lehner's 38 saves.

Lehner is 4-4-2 with a 2.30 GAA and .932 save percentage on the season, but he's 2-0-1 while stopping 97 of 99 shots while starting three straight games.

That should be reason enough for him to get the nod again.

"He's an engaged goalie," coach Dan Bylsma said. "Maybe the most engaged goalie I've been able to coach and he was engaged (Friday). He was certainly on his game, he was strong."

Bylsma's other option is Chad Johnson, who has a 3.50 GAA while going 1-2-1 over his last four games. He had 26 saves at Pittsburgh in October.

Sam Reinhart has six goals over the last eight games, matching his production from his previous 24. The surge has also given him a team-leading 18 goals, ranking third in the NHL among rookies.

"I think it shows a lot to the support I've had," Reinhart told the team's official website. "I think there's lots of guys in our locker room that can chip in, we have a lot of depth in that sense, and I think at any given time anyone can be a guy who puts the puck in the net."

Preview: Blackhawks (38-18) at Wild (26-22)

Date: February 21, 2016 3:30 PM EDT

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Finally, after years of lobbying to host an outdoor game, the Minnesota Wild will take their skates and sticks to the ice under the winter sky Sunday.

Fittingly, they will face the Chicago Blackhawks, the division rival that has eliminated them from the playoffs in each of the last three years and one of the NHL's premier teams that has already participated in three of these au naturel games.

Fortunately for the Wild, they're playing well enough a week after the firing of head coach Mike Yeo that they haven't spoiled the party.

This will be the 17th time the league has staged an outdoor game, including eight editions of the Winter Classic on New Year's Day, but the players who haven't done this yet will surely find themselves thinking back to those childhood skating sessions at the local park or on the frozen pond for at least a few seconds.

'It's important to really live in the moment and soak in different situations that you get a chance that you get to be a part of. This is one of them,' Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk said. 'Who knows when you get a chance to be in a situation like this or a game like this again? You don't want to zone out so much that you wake up a week from now and you don't remember any of it.'

That goes for the other guys, too.

'There's no doubt your fourth one is not exactly a novelty like it was at first, but still exciting,' Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. 'It looks like we're going to get some decent weather, knock on wood.'

The forecasts for Sunday are calling for a high temperature of 35 degrees and a dry, partly sunny day.

Given the severe slump that prompted the change on the bench and pushed the Wild (26-22-10) below the cut for the Western Conference wild-card spots, beating the Blackhawks (38-18-5) would mean a lot more than experiencing the nostalgic charm of an outdoor game.

'We'd like to come out with two points, that's for sure,' said interim coach John Torchetti, the former Blackhawks assistant who was on staff in 2010 for the first of three Stanley Cup titles the team has won in the last six years.

Torchetti is 3-0 since taking over. The Wild scored five goals in each game, the first time in franchise history they've had such a streak.

So there'll be some urgency surrounding the Wild when they take the ice for the Stadium Series event at TCF Bank Stadium, where the University of Minnesota plays football, but there'll be amusement and appreciation as well. This is Minnesota, after all, the state that produced 36 players on NHL rosters this season and ranks first in the nation in terms of participation according to USA Hockey.

'When you get to be part of these Stadium Series games, I think the NHL has a little faith in your team to put on a good show,' Blackhawks star Patrick Kane said. 'And obviously in Minnesota here, we know hockey's pretty popular, too, so I'm sure it will be an exciting game.'

After the two teams tuned up with a light practice on Saturday, with satisfactory reviews of the ice condition all around, the alumni game came next with a handful of ex-Wild players joining former Minnesota North Stars standouts in a friendly grudge match against Blackhawks greats.

There were many other facets of the weekend-long celebration of the sport, from the fan festival at the stadium, autograph sessions, live music and even a special lighting of the nearby Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in the Wild's red and green colors.

So the expected capacity crowd of 50,000 people will have plenty to entertain themselves with. Once the puck drops, though, the atmosphere turns serious.

'At the end of the day, at this time of the season especially, we know how important a game it is,' Wild forward Zach Parise said. 'It's a team that's playing really well and a team that you know you have to go through. We have to make sure that we're ready and try and limit the distractions.'

Preview: Red Wings (29-20) at Rangers (33-19)

Date: February 21, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

The New York Rangers got good news on the status of captain Ryan McDonagh, but he's still out for the fifth time in seven games.

The Rangers will again try to withstand his absence as they go for a fifth straight home win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night.

New York (33-19-6) has put together a 6-1-1 stretch, and that includes going 3-0-1 with McDonagh sidelined by a concussion.

The Rangers will be without him again after he took an elbow to the jaw from Toronto's Leo Komarov in the first period of Thursday's 4-2 victory. McDonagh left as a precaution, and the scare of another concussion was quelled after he passed two league tests.

McDonagh, though, won't play Sunday due to jaw and neck ailments, and Komarov was suspended three games by the NHL.

"He seems to be doing OK, and we're all thankful for that," defenseman Marc Staal told the team's official website. "That was a dirty hit, the kind of hit that we're trying to get out of the game, and I'm just happy that Mac is going to be OK."

Rick Nash's injury is a different matter. He'll miss a 12th straight game with a bone bruise in his left leg.

Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello are keying the Rangers offensively. Brassard has seven goals and seven assists in 10 games, while Zuccarello has 12 points over that span.

They accounted for three goals and two assists against the Leafs and Antti Raanta made 35 saves while starting for Henrik Lundqvist, who should be back for this one.

Lundqvist has been in net for New York's four straight home wins against Detroit, compiling a 0.98 goals-against average and two shutouts. It's the Rangers' longest home winning streak in the series since taking nine straight from 1982-87.

New York is 21-6-3 at MSG and the Red Wings have lost five straight on the road, their longest since a seven-game skid in March 2012.

Detroit is concluding a four-game road trip after falling 3-2 in a shootout at Ottawa on Saturday.

"I told the guys that we could play great and not win, that's the reality sometimes, and I'm not saying we played great, but certainly a lot better and we've got to do the same thing (Sunday)," coach Jeff Blashill said.

Dylan Larkin's expected return should help. The center sat out one game with an illness but Blashill anticipates using him Sunday. Larkin leads the Red Wings with 19 goals, three fewer than Chicago's Artemi Panarin for the NHL rookie lead.

"I think Larkin could have played (Saturday), but it would have been about 80 percent and I'm not a big believer in playing guys like that when you have 100 percent guys there," Blashill said.

It seems unlikely that Petr Mrazek will face the Rangers for the first time after he made 25 saves and turned aside two of three shootout attempts Saturday. Mrazek hasn't started on back-to-back days this season, and allowed seven goals on 18 shots on the two occasions he did so last season.

Jimmy Howard is 4-2-1 with a 1.84 GAA in seven career games against New York, but his stopping 66 of 69 shots last season wasn't enough opposite Lundqvist's shutouts.

Preview: Flames (26-28) at Ducks (30-19)

Date: February 21, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

The Anaheim Ducks answered the challenge brought on by a grueling 11-day trip.

Their reward is a matchup with a team they've dominated on home ice.

The Ducks look to continue their surge up the Pacific Division with a seemingly soft stretch of home games beginning with Sunday night's visit from the Calgary Flames.

Anaheim didn't wilt under the strain of a season-high seven-game trek in which it logged over 7,500 miles, closing with four consecutive victories after losing two of the first three tests. The Ducks scored 16 goals over the last three wins, further proving an offense that was often dormant over the season's first half has put its early problems behind.

"We just stuck with our game plan throughout the entire road trip," forward Richard Rakell said after Thursday's 5-2 win over Vancouver. "We've been scoring a lot of goals, scoring on the power play and playing good (on the penalty kill). This road trip was just what we needed."

Anaheim (30-19-8) has recorded a league-high 53 goals over an NHL-best 13-1-1 run since Jan. 13 that's moved it within striking distance of Pacific leader Los Angeles. The Ducks will host the Kings on this five-game homestand following games against Calgary (26-28-3), Buffalo and Edmonton - three of the league's six worst teams record-wise.

The Ducks had little trouble generating offense in Monday's visit to Calgary, going 3 for 3 on the power play in a 6-4 win. Anaheim is 5 for 7 in man-advantage situations in winning all three season meetings.

Calgary, which owns the NHL's second-worst road record at 9-15-3, has offered even less resistance as the visitor in this series. The Flames have lost 21 straight regular-season games at Honda Center since a 5-1 win Jan. 19, 2004, and dropped three games there during last year's Western Conference quarterfinals.

The Flames come in having scored four or more goals in five of their last seven, though stopping opponents has remained a season-long issue. They are last in the NHL in save percentage (.896) and penalty killing (73.6) and have been particularly poor at the latter of late, permitting 10 power-play goals over their last five.

After surrendering 20 overall in a four-game span, Calgary received a solid 26 saves from former Duck Jonas Hiller in halting a three-game skid with Friday's 5-2 win over reeling Vancouver.

Hiller, reinstalled as the Flames' No. 1 goaltender following Karri Ramo's season-ending ACL tear last week, had allowed 12 goals over his previous four starts. He was pulled early in the second period of Monday's loss after the Ducks scored four times on 17 shots.

Corey Perry and Rakell produced goals in that game and have three each against Calgary this season. Ryan Getzlaf, who extended his point streak to seven games with a goal and an assist Thursday, tied a career high with five assists in a 5-3 home win over the Flames on Nov. 24.

Getzlaf has 12 points over his run and Rakell has four goals over his last six.

Calgary's Mikael Backlund registered his fifth goal in seven games Friday, while defenseman T.J. Brodie had three assists to give him 11 over his last eight.

'Lately, we've been trying to play more of a five-man unit. Jumping through the holes, trying to find the pockets, and get pucks to the net and it worked out for us (Friday)," Brodie said.

Preview: Lightning (31-22) at Hurricanes (27-22)

Date: February 21, 2016 7:00 PM EDT

Carolina just cooled off one of hockey's top road teams, further growing its reputation as a tough home team to handle.

The Hurricanes will try to extend their season-best home winning streak Sunday night against Tampa Bay, but the Lightning have dominated this series recently and been a 5-on-5 force over their own mini-streak.

After a 5-2 win over streaking San Jose on Friday, the Hurricanes (27-22-10) are heading into the second of a three-game homestand seeking a fourth consecutive home win. They've gone 9-1-3 at home since the Christmas break, outscoring opponents by an average of 3.23 to 1.85 with a 93.1 percent penalty kill.

"It's a big time of year," Jeff Skinner told the team's official website. "Every game you come to the rink, those two points are big. Even tonight, playing a Western Conference team, those two points are just as important as when we're playing anyone else in the league. It's a good win. Those guys are a good team over there, a good road team. It's big to get those two points, especially at this time of year."

Skinner scored twice and Jordan Staal scored for a third straight game while adding an assist to give him 22 points in 19 games after managing 15 through his first 40.

Eric Staal's goal-scoring drought reached 15 games, but he at least notched an assist to end a seven-game span without a point.

"This is a fun time of year to be involved and to be playing," Eric Staal said. "We're in the mix. We've put ourselves in that (position) and we've got to fight, we've got to win and we've got to pick up points every night."

That's been the case for nearly two months with Cam Ward in goal. Carolina's No. 1 hasn't lost in regulation since Dec. 29, going 6-0-4 with a 1.90 goals-against average and .930 save percentage since the calendar flipped to 2016.

"He's our guy," coach Bill Peters said. "We have a lot of confidence in (Ward and Eddie Lack), but we're going to ride a guy, and it will be Cam."

Ward, however, has been peppered by Tampa Bay for more than six years now, going 6-10-2 with a 3.43 GAA and .895 save percentage, including four straight regulation losses. Among the 18 teams he's faced at least 10 times in his career, his 3.00 GAA versus the Lightning is the highest.

One of those losses came Nov. 1 as Tampa Bay (31-22-4) opened the season series with a 4-3 win in Carolina as part of a 10-2-0 span against the Hurricanes.

The Lightning are coming off Saturday's 4-2 win in Pittsburgh following a 6-5 shootout victory over Winnipeg, and they outscored those teams 9-3 at even strength.

"I didn't think we gave them a whole lot," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "When we did give them something, it was either we were on a power play or it was 4-on-4. But other than that, I thought 5-on-5 we played pretty steady. We got the lead. We played D. That was pretty much it."

With that, however, comes a 0-for-10 power play as part of a 1-for-24 span, as well as two short-handed goals allowed in the last two games. The power play has been even worse on the road with one conversion in 41 chances dating to Dec. 6.

Individually, Steven Stamkos has scored in consecutive contests to get to 300 career goals, one of which came in November against Ward.

Tampa Bay's Ben Bishop is 5-1-0 with a 1.67 GAA and .950 save percentage in his career against Carolina.

Grand Salami - February

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

Wild swings on offense/defense has paid dividends for Minnesota 'Over' gamblers during February. In the first six games of the month Wild gave up 4.2 goals/game while scoring 2.3 per/contest resulting in 5 'Over' 1 'Push'. In the past three Wild have scored 5.0 goals/game giving up just 2.3 per/game going 'Over' in each contest. Minnesota will look to extend the 8-0-1 'Over' streak when they take on Chicago Blackhawks. The total is at 5.

NBA notebook: Warriors might pursue Varejao
By The Sports Xchange

The Golden State Warriors are considering making a run to sign center Anderson Varejao, who is scheduled to clear waivers Sunday after his trade from Cleveland to Portland.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks are currently investigating the prospect of signing Varejao.
The Warriors would have to open a spot on their 15-man roster to sign Varejao. The defending champions have a need inside given the recent loss for at least six weeks of key backup Festus Ezeli to knee surgery.
"I have not been notified of that but it makes perfect sense, right?" Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Friday night of the possibility of signing Varejao. "I don't even know, am I allowed to even mention his name? I can get fined by the NBA. I don't even know what the rule is."

---The Charlotte Hornets signed guard Jorge Gutierrez to a 10-day contract.
Gutierrez joins the Hornets from the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League. The 6-foot-3 Gutierrez has appeared in 22 games (20 starts) for the Charge this season, averaging 11.3 points, 5.7 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
The Chihuahua, Mexico, native has appeared in 35 career NBA games (three starts) over two seasons with the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, averaging 3.3 points, 1.5 assists and 1.3 rebounds. Gutierrez began the 2015-16 season as a member of the Bucks' preseason roster but was waived on Oct. 21.

---The Phoenix Suns signed point guard Phil Pressey to a 10-day contract.
Pressey, in his third NBA season, averaged 3.9 points and 3.3 assists in 14 games with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this season. He also averaged 13.0 points and 6.4 assists in 25 games with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League.
In 125 previous NBA games, Pressey has averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 assists in 13.9 minutes with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. Pressey, 25, is the son of former NBA player Paul Pressey.

Preview: Cavaliers (39-14) at Thunder (40-15)

Date: February 21, 2016 3:30 PM EDT

Cleveland could be without its best perimeter defender, and its trade deadline acquisition has yet to join the team. Even so, the status of the Cavaliers' roster for a visit to Oklahoma City might be considered a net positive.

That's because Iman Shumpert missed the Cavaliers' first meeting with the Thunder and Channing Frye was still in Orlando, the difference Sunday being Kyrie Irving has long since been back and found his form.

Shumpert has missed practice time while dealing with a sprained left shoulder sustained in Thursday's 106-95 home win over Chicago, and his status hasn't yet been determined. He would typically spend plenty of time on Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, while Frye is awaiting medical clearance. Frye, who was acquired Thursday, missed the 2012-13 season with a heart condition, but Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said there's "no concern at all" he won't be cleared to play.

The piece Oklahoma City (40-15) is likely most concerned with is Irving, whose 24-game absence to start the season while recovering from a knee injury ended one game after the Cavs' 104-100 home win over the Thunder on Dec. 17. There's also the matter of Lue having taken over for David Blatt.

"They're a different team now so we have to be prepared to play the right way defensively," Westbrook told the team's official website.

He's likely referring to Cleveland's 12-of-29 mark from 3-point range, an area where Irving can do some damage. The point guard has averaged 26.0 points on 53.5 percent shooting in his last nine games, including 9 of 17 from long range in the last three.

It's helped Cleveland (39-14) to a four-game winning streak, over which LeBron James has also been strong with 25.5 points on 54.5 percent with 9.5 assists, 7.2 rebounds and a triple-double while flirting with two more.

Cleveland has won four of the last six meetings and both with James on the floor since his return to Cleveland, though he missed the one played in Oklahoma City - a 103-94 Thunder win on Dec. 11, 2014. James had 33 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds in this season's meeting and has scored at least 33 in his last five against Oklahoma City.

"It's just a lot of the little things," coach Billy Donovan said. "They got us in transition for several points with the floor not being balanced. They got us on some different actions. Their ability to move LeBron to the four gives you a different look. We'll try to take things from that game and try to utilize them and do things better."

Friday's 101-98 home loss to Indiana provided little encouragement, though the Thunder have won nine of their last 10 home games and haven't lost consecutive contests of any kind since Nov. 30 and Dec. 3, going 29-7 since.

They acquired Randy Foye in a trade from Denver at the deadline in an attempt to add scoring from the shooting guard spot, but for James, it unsurprisingly still comes down to two names.

"I know they got two dynamic, great basketball players in Westbrook and KD, and they have a great core behind those guys that's been there for a while," James said.

Like Irving and James, the duo has been plenty efficient lately with Westbrook averaging 24.8 points on 50.3 percent shooting with 12.4 assists and 9.0 rebounds over the last nine games, including two triple-doubles. Durant has averaged 32.8 points on 51.0 percent over the same period.

"They're a matchup problem," James said. "Like I said, when you have two guys that can give you 40 or 50 on any given night, it's a matchup problem. For our team, we just have to defend the best way we can, try to make it tough on those guys and live with the result."

Preview: Pelicans (21-33) at Pistons (27-28)

Date: February 21, 2016 3:30 PM EDT

While the Detroit Pistons are banking on a flurry of trade-deadline moves leading to a playoff berth, the New Orleans Pelicans hope the ones they didn't make can help them get there.

After earning a much-needed win in their return from the All-Star break, the Pelicans attempt to continue their recent success against the slumping Pistons on Sunday.

The teams took far different approaches to Thursday's trade deadline, with Detroit among the most aggressive clubs and New Orleans largely standing pat in hopes of maintaining its improved play over the past month.

The Pelicans' decision to hold on to Ryan Anderson paid off in their first game back from the break, as the impending unrestricted free agent scored 26 points to complement big efforts from Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday in Friday's 121-114 win over Philadelphia.

"At this point for us we want to win," Anderson said. "We want wins and we want to build a winning stretch of games, and a winning culture. We think of this as a new season and a new start so this is a good way to start this second half of the season."

Despite going 10-7 since Jan. 13 and winning three of four, New Orleans (21-33) faces an uphill climb to garner a second straight playoff appearance. The Pelicans sit 12th in the Western Conference, six games behind Houston and Utah for eighth place.

Detroit (27-28) looms just 1 1-2 back of Charlotte and Chicago for the final two spots in the East, prompting coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy to make two major moves. He acquired forward Tobias Harris from Orlando for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova, then traded a protected first-round pick to Houston for forward Donatas Motiejunas and veteran guard Marcus Thornton.

"You're going to have to take some risk in order to get better," Van Gundy said. "There are no deals where there's no risk and we feel like this was a risk we could handle."

Harris had a team-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting in an impressive debut, though it wasn't enough to prevent the Pistons from a season high-tying fourth straight loss in Friday's 98-86 defeat at Washington.

Thornton, who averaged 10.0 points in 18.8 minutes per game with the Rockets, is expected to debut Sunday and Motiejunas is nearing a return from a back injury that's sidelined him since Dec. 31. Both will be counted on to boost one of the league's least productive benches at 26.7 points per game.

Though Detroit is struggling offensively, averaging 89.0 points over the last three games, its defense may hold the key to ending a seven-game series losing streak. The Pelicans have won five straight and 10 of 11 when scoring 100 points or more but are 0-25 when held under that number.

The Pistons provided little resistance in a 115-99 loss at New Orleans on Jan. 21, with the Pelicans amassing 60 points in the paint and recording their second-highest field goal rate this season at 53.5 percent.

Davis had 32 points that day, and the All-Star is averaging 27.7 over a seven-game stretch after scoring 34 against Philadelphia. Holiday added 24 points and 12 assists Friday, and he's averaging 23.8 and 9.0 over his last four.

The Pelicans have won three straight in Detroit and haven't lost to the Pistons since Feb. 4, 2012.

Preview: Spurs (46-9) at Suns (14-41)

Date: February 21, 2016 5:00 PM EDT

Manu Ginobili's injury prior to the All-Star break shortened San Antonio's bench before its depth became further depleted when Kawhi Leonard couldn't play in the first two following the hiatus.

In customary Spurs fashion, they've won far more often than not despite the setbacks.

Leonard is questionable for Sunday night's contest in Phoenix as the Spurs continue their rodeo road trip looking to beat the Suns for a seventh straight time.

Ginobili underwent testicular surgery Feb. 4 after being accidentally kneed the night before by New Orleans' Ryan Anderson, and he recently wrote in an Argentine newspaper that there's no timetable for his return. The Spurs (46-9) won the first four without him as part of a six-game winning streak prior to the break.

San Antonio has gone 21-3 since the day after Christmas, with the latest defeat a 105-86 setback against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday. Leonard sat out with tightness in his left calf, then missed Friday's 119-113 win over the Lakers as Tony Parker finished with 25 points and Tim Duncan added 12 and 13 boards.

The Spurs said Leonard, who averaged 24.2 points in the five games before sitting out, could return against the Suns (14-41). Kyle Anderson has scored 22 points while shooting 11 of 20 from the field starting in place of the All-Star.

Anderson played nearly 30 minutes against the Lakers to help the Spurs overcome the media craze of Kobe Bryant and Duncan matching up for the final time.

"(Friday) wasn't about (Bryant)," Duncan said. "This was about us trying to get back on track. We came here to win a game."

San Antonio's streak against Phoenix includes victories in the last five by an average of 23.6 points while handily winning each of the three meetings this season.

Duncan and Parker sat out the last matchup Jan. 21, but Leonard scored 21 points in a 117-89 road win.

The Suns should have a tough time snapping that skid even if Leonard can't go. They've lost a season-worst 10 straight after falling 116-110 to Houston on Friday. This will be the last of a seven-game homestand, and they've gone 2-13 at home since Dec. 20.

Phoenix traded Markieff Morris to Washington at the deadline in a deal that netted Kris Humphries, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds off the bench in his debut. He missed 19 of his last 20 games with the Wizards because of a knee injury.

"I've always been kind of a hustle player - rebound, defend, run the floor," Humphries said. "I can bring that to this team and just play hard and do whatever the coaches ask me to do."

Eric Bledsoe is out for the season and Brandon Knight has missed the last 12 with a groin injury, but Knight reportedly is close to returning. Interim coach Earl Watson praised reserve Ronnie Price despite his scoreless return from sitting out the previous 16 with a sprained toe.

"His presence calmed us," Watson said. "It just shows that we need a point guard on the court constantly. Until we get Brandon Knight back, we have to find ways to stay within the game."

Mirza Teletovic, who sat out the last matchup with the Spurs, scored a season-high 25 points against the Rockets and is averaging 17.2 over his last five.

Rookie Devin Booker scored 24 against San Antonio last month and is hitting 44.5 percent from the field on the season, but he's shooting 32.1 percent over his last five.

Preview: Celtics (32-24) at Nuggets (22-33)

Date: February 21, 2016 5:00 PM EDT

Slow and sluggish coming out of the All-Star break, the Boston Celtics turned in their worst offensive performance in six weeks.

The Celtics go for a bounce-back effort Sunday when they try to beat the Denver Nuggets for a fourth straight time.

Boston (32-24) entered the break averaging 113.1 points during a 10-2 run, becoming a factor in the Atlantic Division race. The Celtics are 4 1/2 games back of first-place Toronto but failed to close that gap in falling 111-93 at Utah on Friday.

With their momentum failing to carry through the layoff, they shot 37.0 percent and went 7 for 25 from beyond the arc. It was Boston's worst effort since shooting 35.7 percent and missing 20 of 25 from long range in a 101-92 loss at Chicago on Jan. 7.

The Celtics allowed the Jazz to shoot 54.4 percent, marking the third straight game a Boston opponent has hit more than half its shots.

"We can't make excuses, everyone had a layoff," guard Isaiah Thomas said. "We were just slow to everything offensively, and defensively we just weren't there. Every time we play like that we end up losing and somehow we have to change that."

Thomas was the club's lone All-Star last week and leads the team with career highs of 21.6 points and 6.6 assists per game. He had 25 points Friday but shot just 7 of 19 after going 12 for 21 with 36 points and 11 assists in a 139-134 overtime win against the Los Angeles Clippers prior to the break Feb. 10.

Avery Bradley had averaged 20.3 points over the prior three games before being limited to 12 against the Jazz. A matchup with Denver should be just what he needs since he's scored 20.7 per game while shooting 54.3 percent shooting, including 10 of 20 from 3-point range, during Boston's three-game winning streak in the series.

Bradley scored 27 in a 111-103 home victory against the Nuggets on Jan. 27.

Denver (22-33) dropped its first game following the break with a 116-110 loss at Sacramento on Friday. The Nuggets surrendered 70 points in the first half, four shy of their season high set in a loss to NBA-leading Golden State on Nov. 6.

"We are not good enough to defend for two quarters. It has to be for 48 minutes. We did not do that (Friday) and that's disappointing," coach Mike Malone said.

Danilo Gallinari is averaging 23.7 points over the past six games after scoring 27 against the Kings. The forward, whose career-high 19.9 points per game lead the Nuggets, scored 23 at Boston last month.

Will Barton also scored 23 after totaling seven in his previous four matchups. The guard is averaging 19.0 points over the past three home games.

Joffrey Lauvergne is trying to improve upon his career-high 22 points Friday. The center was five shy of matching his total from the six prior games following a three-game absence due to a right toe infection. That stretch included sitting out the visit to Boston.
