KEY STAT: Verona have not kept a clean sheet in their last nine matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Chievo’s five-match unbeaten run came to an end when they lost 2-0 at home to Inter on Monday but they can respond by drawing with Verona at the Bentegodi stadium. Verona won 2-1 at Udinese on Sunday but have not won any of their last four home league games and may have to settle for a derby draw.

RECOMMENDATION: Draw

KEY STAT: United have drawn only one of their last 19 league games

EXPERT VERDICT: United were smashed 6-1 at Celtic Park in August, one of the few low points in a good season for Jackie McNamara’s men. Defeat by Aberdeen was another setback and Celtic, with European distractions out of the way, can make it nine Premiership wins in a row.

RECOMMENDATION: Celtic to win 3-1

KEY STAT: Marseille have won their last eight home matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Lille are the lowest scorers in the French top flight and it is hard to see them troubling leaders Marseille at the Stade Velodrome. Marseille lost 1-0 away to in-form Monaco at the weekend but face an easier challenge against mid-table Lille, who have struggled to cope with the cumulative demands of Europa League and league football.

RECOMMENDATION: Marseille

KEY STAT: Sunderland have scored five times in seven away games

EXPERT VERDICT: Newcastle have stuttered since their impressive run of six wins in a row but should still overrun a limited Sunderland side, who have managed just one away win all season. They have proved hard to break down since manager Gus Poyet changed to a more pragmatic approach, but offer little threat in attack.

RECOMMENDATION: Newcastle

KEY STAT: Davy Klaassen has scored in all of Ajax’s last five games in all competitions

EXPERT VERDICT: Excelsior are in shocking form, winning just one of their last 12 league games. They have conceded 10 goals in their last two at home and trailed 3-0 at half-time in both matches. Everything points to a comfortable win for champions Ajax and in-form Davy Klaassen could open the scoring.

RECOMMENDATION: D Klaassen first goalscorer

KEY STAT: NAC have lost five of their last six Eredivisie games

EXPERT VERDICT: Things are looking bleak for NAC Breda after five defeats in six and just two goals scored during that run. Visitors Feyenoord are a talented side who gave leaders PSV a real scare in midweek and they should be backed to take three points after scoring 12 goals in their last four games, including eight in their last two away from home.

RECOMMENDATION: Feyenoord

Both of those teams won last week, no where close to losing by double digits. Try looking at a team like detroit who plays the bears, who lost to the saints by 16 last week

NHL Grand Salami - December

The Grand Salami in pro hockey is decided by adding up all the goals scored in every game scheduled for that particular day. You can wager on 'over' or 'under' the Grand Salami total. The total is set by adding up all listed 'over/under' odds for each game on that particular day.

Note: The Grand Salami will have no action if any game is suspended or cancelled before the regulation time of three twenty minute periods. Also, regardless of the number of goals scored during the shoot out portion of the overtime, the final scored recorded for the game will give the winning team on more goal than its opponent based on the score at the end of regulation time.

*The majority of sportsbooks do not put out a total on the Grand Salami when there is only one game on the card. For tracking purposes, we will continue to show the 'over/under' for goals and combined goals scored on days with just one game.

NHL Preview: Flyers (12-14) at Jets (17-10)

Date: December 21, 2014 9:00 PM EDT

Like most coaches, the Winnipeg Jets' Paul Maurice realizes the key to beating the Philadelphia Flyers rests with containing Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux.

That could prove difficult after the pair's latest showing.

Winnipeg seeks a season high-tying third consecutive victory as it completes a four-game homestand against Philadelphia on Sunday night.

The Jets (17-10-6) have continued to pick up points recently by going 7-1-3 over their last 11. They've been especially solid over the last two, beating Buffalo 5-1 on Tuesday before Friday's 2-1 victory over Boston.

Evander Kane scored in the first period as Winnipeg held a 16-4 shot advantage over the Bruins, and Mathieu Perrault got the winner with 23 seconds remaining in the second.

Defenseman Jay Harrison was acquired from Carolina for a sixth-round draft pick Thursday and didn't arrive in town in time for the morning skate, but he played more than 20 minutes and picked up an assist on his first shift.

"The more times you go over the boards, the easier it gets because you get into a nice routine and rhythm," Harrison said. "There's less thinking and more playing."

Maurice has done plenty of thinking about how the Jets are going to handle the Flyers' offensive attack. Voracek had four assists to take over the NHL points lead and Giroux had two goals and two assists in Saturday's 7-4 win over Toronto.

"They've got three or four guys up front with great speed and skill, a couple guys with world-class talent and depth through their lineup," Maurice said. "Lots of speed. It will be quite a tilt."

Voracek, who has 42 points, also leads the league with 28 assists, while Giroux sits three points back of his teammate in the scoring race.

"He can play better," Giroux joked when asked about Voracek's pace. "Obviously his points look good, but defensively he's playing very well. That's one of the reasons why our line gets so many scoring chances. It makes my job a lot easier and I'm lucky to play with him. At the same time, we've got to keep going."

Philadelphia (12-14-6) had dropped back-to-back contests before kicking off an eight-game trip in Toronto. The Flyers have struggled away from home with a 4-9-3 mark but are 2-0-2 in their last four.

"It was a good way to start it off with two points," Giroux said. "Our record's not very good on the road, but if you look at our last five games, we've played very well but we kind of found a way to lose (some) games. We need to stay focused on how we play and hopefully the win is the start of a good road trip."

Ray Emery made 21 saves in place of Steve Mason, who also will sit out this contest with an upper-body injury he suffered in practice Friday. If coach Craig Berube elects not to start Emery in back-to-back contests, Rob Zepp will get the nod.

Zepp, a 33-year-old who has never started an NHL game, was called up from the minors after Mason went down. He has a 2.70 goals-against average in 17 AHL games this season.

The Jets are likely to go back to Ondrej Pavelec in net after Michael Hutchinson stopped 30 shots Friday. Pavelec is 3-0-2 with a 2.16 GAA in his last five starts and 2-1-0 with a 1.64 GAA in his last three against the Flyers.

NHL roundup: Jackets place Jenner on IR
By THE SPORTS XCHANGE

The Columbus Blue Jackets placed Boone Jenner on injured reserve with a stress fracture in his back that is expected to sideline the forward for one to two months.

Center Sean Collins was recalled from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

Jenner, 21, has six goals and six assists to go with 10 penalty minutes in 20 games this season. He had five goals and one assist in the eight games before being injured.

Collins, 25, appeared in two games for Columbus earlier this season and has 19 points and 14 penalty minutes in 27 games with Springfield this season.

---The Ottawa Senators signed forward Nick Paul to a three-year entry-level contract.

Paul, 19, leads the Ontario Hockey League's North Bay Battalion with 19 goals and 34 points with 28 penalty minutes in 27 games. He is in his third season with the Battalion.

---The Buffalo Sabres recalled forward Mikhail Grigorenko from the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Grigorenko has scored 19 points in 29 games with the Amerks this season, and has eight points in 44 games with the Sabres over the past two seasons.

---The Detroit Red Wings recalled goaltender Tom McCollum from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned defenseman Xavier Ouellet to the AHL club.

McCollum, 25, has a 5-8-3 record with a 2.57 goals-against average in 16 games for the Griffins this season. McCollum had a career-high 24 victories for the Griffins last season, but has appeared in only one NHL game -- a relief stint against St. Louis in 2011.

Ouellet, 21, has one assist in nine games with the Red Wings this season. He also has seven points and 12 penalty minutes in 18 games for the Griffins.

---The Los Angeles Kings recalled forward Andy Andreoff from his conditioning assignment with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL.

Andreoff had five goals and five assists with a plus-8 rating and 11 penalty minutes in seven games with Manchester. In eight NHL games (all this season) with the Kings, Andreoff has no points and 12 penalty minutes.

---Defenseman Joe Morrow of the Boston Bruins was assigned to Providence of the AHL.

Morrow skated in 15 games with Boston this season, including his NHL debut on Oct. 30 against the Sabres in Buffalo. The 22-year-old scored his first career NHL goal on Nov. 24 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden.

---The Dallas Stars reassigned left winger Curtis McKenzie to the Texas Stars of the AHL. McKenzie, 23, has one goal and 19 penalty minutes in 14 games for Dallas this season.

NBA Preview: Pelicans (13-13) at Thunder (13-14)

Date: December 21, 2014 7:00 PM EDT

After LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard were too much for them to handle, the New Orleans Pelicans may not have to face Oklahoma City's star tandem.

With Kevin Durant a game-time decision Sunday night due to a sprained ankle, the Pelicans may be able to shift more attention toward Russell Westbrook when they visit the Thunder.

New Orleans (13-13) was chasing its first three-game win streak but ran into a wall against Portland on Saturday night, allowing the Trail Blazers to shoot 53.3 percent in a 114-88 loss that marked its lowest point total in nine games.

The Pelicans, who averaged 110.6 points to win five of their previous seven, allowed 94 through three quarters and scored less than 20 in both the first and third. All five starters had seven points or less - including Anthony Davis, who shot 3 of 14.

Aldridge and Lillard led Portland with a combined 44 points on 18-of-32 shooting.

"We haven't played like that, especially at home, or like this at the same time we played against a really good team who understood the moment," coach Monty Williams said.

Even though New Orleans won the first meeting with Oklahoma City, that 112-104 home victory Dec. 2 was Durant's season debut after he missed the first 17 games with a broken right foot. While he and Westbrook, who missed 14 games with a broken hand, combined for 48 points, the Thunder appeared out of sync and shot 44.0 percent with 17 turnovers.

"Like every coach in this league, you want your entire roster and (to) be able to throw all your pieces out on the court," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said Friday.

"We've been through this before with Russell and Kevin. And with Kevin out now, it's an adjustment. We have to make that adjustment, and you have to make it with confidence."

The Pelicans also got outstanding contributions in one of their best performances of the season in that game. Tyreke Evans scored 30 points and among their three double-doubles were Davis (25 points, 10 rebounds), Ryan Anderson (23 and 11) and Jrue Holiday (16 and 10 assists). Omer Asik added 14 rebounds and Davis had four blocks.

Oklahoma City (13-14), however, found its stride after losing in New Orleans, winning seven straight before a 114-109 loss to NBA-leading Golden State on Thursday. Durant was electrifying early in that contest with 30 points on 10-of-13 shooting in less than 19 minutes, but he sprained his ankle late in the first half and sat out the second.

Westbrook helped the Thunder bounce back in his absence Friday, scoring 31 and hitting a jumper with 38 seconds left in a 104-103 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe Bryant missed a jumper in the closing seconds, allowing Oklahoma City to close its trip at 2-1.

"I've got confidence in the people that we have on our team to lock in at the end," said Westbrook, who is averaging a career-best 27.2 points.

Durant, who missed just 16 games over his first seven NBA seasons, has averaged 27.1 points in his career against New Orleans, while Westbrook has put up 19.2 per game.

Prior to his solid stat line Dec. 2, Davis was sidelined by injury for five of the Pelicans' seven meetings with the Thunder since he entered the league in 2012. He totaled 19 points on 7-of-22 shooting with 15 rebounds in the two games he played.

New Orleans hasn't won in Oklahoma City in nearly five years, losing eight in a row since a 97-92 victory on Jan. 6, 2010.

# 4 JOHNNY GRIPPA 7/2

# 3 AHEAD OFTHE CURVE 3/1

After thorough analysis by the brain trust, T'S ELECTRIC comes out as the top choice. This harness racer may have some hidden form, a ultimate prize would be a pleasant surprise. More wins than normal have been earned by fine animals lining up behind the 5 hole at Pompano Park. JOHNNY GRIPPA - Should be in the hunt again in here, looking to add to that already high lifetime winning clip. Some trainers just fit better with certain fine animals. That seems to be the case right here with Sanzeri. A great bet. AHEAD OFTHE CURVE - With a 90 average class rating, this nice horse has one of the best class advantages in the field of starters. Could be considered in this contest if only for the formidable TrackMaster speed fig earned in the last contest.

# 7 SILVER EAGLE 6/1

# 2 MISTER ICON 2/1

# 5 SUNSET ART 4/1

Feel pretty confident putting cash down on SILVER EAGLE. Exhibits the look of a profitable play, averaging a rather good 84 TrackMaster Speed Rating. This fine animal looks dangerous considering the high class stats. Not a good idea to throw out of any exotics. Has to be given a look based on the nice TrackMaster Speed Rating achieved in the last race. MISTER ICON - Has good speed figs and unquestionably has to be considered for a wager for this race. Seems to have a really good class edge based on the standardbreds he has raced against. SUNSET ART - Driver/trainer are no strangers to the winners circle and should have this gelding breaking away from the group of animals. Strong gains over time for this driver/trainer duo. This solid standardbred is an obvious pick.

The Walker Group Picks

# 7 CHINA WALL 5/1

# 1 SASSY CARTEL 6/1

# 8 BRAVEHEART DASHER 5/1

I lean toward CHINA WALL here. Could beat this group of horses in this race given the 93 speed rating garnered in his last outing. Is worth looking at and may be a bet - strong Speed Figures (88 average) at today's distance and surface recently. Decent pick to take this race going in a short. SASSY CARTEL - Jones has a reliable 16 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. If you look closely, this horse has some longshot possibilities. BRAVEHEART DASHER - Is a definite contender - given the 96 speed fig from his most recent race. Loza and Mendez have a good winning percentage together.
