Backward Pass

1. Any pass not forward is regarded as a backward pass. A pass parallel to the line is a backward pass. A runner may pass backward at any time.
2. A backward pass that strikes the ground can be recovered and advanced by either team.
3. A backward pass caught in the air can be advanced by either team.
4. A backward pass in flight may not be batted forward by an offensive player.

Berman said a lateral can not be advanced. That is incorrect! Says right here in the NFL rules it can be advanced.

Um... it should be FORWARD lateral. Otherwise, wtf is the "hook n ladders" play for? fuck... why else would u lateral? to not get hit? cuz after the ball is thrown lateral--u can't advance, so whats the point?

I believe you are sorely missing the point.

All I know is the ref came back out on the field said something and signaled TOUCHDOWN then they discussed kicking PAT and decided no need to do that time had expired. What did the ref say when he came out and signaled TOUCHDOWN?

I agree...And the final justification for removing the TD was an "illegal forward pass". Nobody has explained what exactly was illegal about the
forward pass.

Obviousy the Refs KNEW a backwards pass could be advanced...

Never heard of an illegal forward pass being called in the NFL.

Any forward "lateral" is illegal.

I'm sorry I never saw the ball advanced or thrown forward at anytime.

krk,

There is a difference between a forward pass and a forward lateral. What was the ruling on the field? I saw a underhand pitch (lateral) backwards and a overhand throw backwards, at no time did I see anything forward did you sir?

No, there is no difference. A forward lateral is the same thing as a forward pass.

If they are the same then please tell me haw you can have a illegal forward pass or an illegal forward lateral? I am not arguing and did not lose alot of money just talking about a very strange call. I agree about the forward pass, as I've seen Farve shovel pass, shot put and everything else. That is why I ask what is an illegal forward pass?

An illegal forward pass is either a pass forward once the ball has passed the line of scrimmage or a 2nd forward pass on the same play. So if the QB throws the ball forward to a receiver who then throws it forward to another teammate, this is illegal.
