Not to be confused with Star Trek the Motion Picture (from 1979).

I'm looking forward to this. Little confused though is this supposed to be a remake of the original Star Trek film?

No. This is supposed to be when the crew is growing up and on until they get together. In other words, it's pre-Star Trek the tv show.

we've gotten to the point now with movies that every distributor is looking for a 200 million franchise blockbuster.

they've really killed the movie industry and catered it to teenage boys. i havent been to the theater in years. toback is right, movie industry is on life support.

I never liked Star Trek but the new movie looks pretty good oddly. It's like Star Trek on steroids. I might actually watch it.

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

From the first scene the Star Trek universe as we knew it has changed forever. Kirk is now an angry wayward young man looking for trouble. He fights with Starfleet cadets in Iowa when a Capt. Pike takes an interest in him, finding out he's the only 'genius level repeat offender in the Midwest'. Pike dares Kirk to join Starfleet, goading him with the legacy of his father. A young Spock is tortured over his mixed heritage, the emotions he fights to control and the very different paths he has before him. He must choose between the Vulcan world which will never accept him as anything other than 'half human' and Starfleet Academy, worlds away from everything he has ever known. We meet Dr 'Bones' McCoy and a young linguist Uhura at the Academy and watch as a headstrong Kirk wreaks havoc on Starfleet's rules and regulations. Kirk's antics culminate in his reprogramming the famous Kobayashi Maru test and consequent disciplinary hearing. He comes face to face with the scenario creator, Mr Spock. As this unfolds; a vicious Romulan from the future is hell bent on vengeance upon 'Ambassador' Spock and nothing will get in his way. The fleet is called to arms as peril aims at the heart of the Federation and Kirk and Spock are irrevocably pulled together to save the galaxy - for the first time.

I've also never been a fan of Star Trek but I love the trailer. Will probably see it, if it's getting good user reviews. But I will definitely be seeing X-Men: Origins

nah man i just agree with toback. movies have been dead for years. look at all the wanna be blockbusters out this year. once in awhile ok, every week means the industry is devoid of coming up with real art, and instead just looks for money with these films you see here.

some of my favorite films: good will hunting, godfather, psycho, se7en.

great movies where you saw character development and real theater as an art.

this film is another example of how dead the industry is. terminator salvation is another shitty one coming out.

the only blockbuster movie released lately that I enjoyed was dark knight but even that i wouldnt consider the typical movie like this one.

this is just a lousy attempt by a director with no passion to bring in 200 mill for the distributors because thats whats in demand. long gone are the days when movies were artful, as toback said, these movies are all made for teenage boys.

when you have fast and furious, hannah montana, monsters vs. aliens, 17 again, and fighting in the top 10 for movie sales you can see why toback said this industry is all about teenage boys now.
