motivation can be tough in these smaller tournaments.

did stjohns expect to be here? or did they have higher aspirations and didnt make it?

also depends on how the coach prepares his team, if at all.

yeah, completely unmotivated. usually the top seeds for the smaller tournaments come out and crush the first day.

only thing is they make you a 1 seed in a tourney that you have no desire to be at then why not just refuse the bid to play....some mid major would love to be in the tourney no matter what one it was...so just pass and let someone play that does want to

Indiana would have been a better 1 seed. They were not even invited to the NIT. Very surprising considering the following and history they have.

Weasel you make a valid point, but it will never happen. First, I believe 90% of D1 coaches want their team to play regardless of what tourney (experience, teaching opportunity, etc etc) and they would have to lead the charge to refuse an invite. Second, imagine the backlash from the sports media, inter-conference schools, and the general public (they think their shit don't stink, if they didn't want an invite they should've played harder in regular season, they think their bigger than the game, etc etc etc. You get the point). So what we get is some egos that basically take a dive and we get the shit product.
