Steve Spurrier, the South Carolina Head Coach, admitted that he was the coach who did not vote for Tim Tebow on the all SEC team. Spurrier admitted that for the last 17 years, he has never filled out the ballot. He also said that he does ot understand why coaches bother to vote for the #1 team because they know so little. This coming from a coach who has a vote in the coaches poll.

I guess it is time to do away with this poll. If coaches can vote underfeated teams #15, as one did to Utah after their win against Alabama, there can be no defense for this system. USC HC Pete Carroll simply refuses to take part in the system. At least the Harris Poll make a pretense at being knowledgeable, but the Coaches Poll has now lost all creditility. They should call it the SID's poll.

...or we can just start calling it "The whoever votes in proxy for the head coach poll"

It's no different from the BCS... just something more to blabber about. Otherwise it's meaningless.

I agree but it's not like it was a surprise. Just like when we find out it's not the coaches actually using Twitter. Wow, shocker, that Weis isn't sending out 140 character tweets,

I think for an organization that is desperately looking for some semblence of legitimacy, the BCS should replace the Coaches poll with the AP Poll. Sure the AP poll is independent, as proven by their 2003 NC vote, but that very independence would provide some legitimacy to the BCS. The writers can read, for the most part, and are in much better shape to determine a NC than a bunch of guys who could care less about a poll that in the vast majority of cases, means absolutely nothing to them. I am glad that Spurier had enough guts to tell it like it is.

The AP poll is certainly no better than the Coaches poll. The majority of these lazy ass writers don't watch the games and predicate their weekly selection based on magin of victory.

Playoff is the only way.

"Pretense" is the key word here for the Harris Poll. This poll is no better than the rest. I remember one voter from the Harris poll voting Texas number 1 in the country last season just after they lost to Texas Tech. See anything wrong with this picture? I guarantee you very few if any of these writers in the AP or so-called experts are spending 9 hours a day on their Lazy-Boys watching these football games like we are. It ain't happening. it's mostly politics. So much so that if we really knew and were aware of what went on behind the scenes, Congress would immediatly step in and end this BCS nonsense. Here is an article from a very knowledgable local sports writer/broadcaster/voter who knows what goes on behind the scenes with this voting scam.

………………………… If you don’t think it’s outrageous to use the Harris Poll and give it one-third of the equation to determine who should play in games such as the Big 12 Championship game and ultimately the national title game, then you just don’t understand college football.
Just look it up on-line and review the list of 175 people who vote on the Harris Poll. Many don’t stay on top of college football…many are too biased to vote…many are greatly influenced by other voters and “football people” who I was told on good authority “call in favors.” Source: Some coaches use influential contacts to “talk with others and tell them what they should be doing…and if you don’t think that’s true you’re naïve, good buddy.” Given one off-the-record and specific example, it is quite clear precisely what he meant. It is also quite sickening. How can the BCS have any chance of being legitimate with this type of stuff?

But that doesn't mean the BCS can't use the AP poll.

Who gives a shit about a pre-season all conference teams, polls, ect. They should do away with all of them, especially having any polls whatsoever until at least six weeks into the season. Giving awards out before any team has strapped it on is purely superficial and meaningless. They gave awards out to the best players/teams at the end of last season, means nothing going forward.
