It's that time of the season again. For those who don't know or don't remember, I will give you a few quick notes about my style. I will not have tons of plays and will not guarantee to have a play everyday. There will be no "locks", "plays of the month", or any of that other bullshit. Just straight plays, most of the time with a brief writeup. Plays will be weighted between 1-5 units, with most plays being 2 or 3 unit plays. No chasing. Will sometimes have halftime plays if I am around and see something that looks good. I may post overnights or may wait until closer to game time to post. I have never had a losing season, all documented. That should be it, ready to roll.
Two plays so far for Opening Night, with a chance I may add a third later on in the day.
Cleveland Cavaliers +6.5 2 Units
Missed out on getting +7 here, but still feel OK with the current number. Cavs played Boston tough all of last season, including the playoffs. One of my angles I always look at opening night is to fade the defending NBA Champion if I perceive there is any value in doing so. I remember when the Heat lost two years ago as 8 point favorites to the Bulls on opening night. Last season, the Spurs won but failed to cover on opening night. Not only do I see value in tonight's game, but Cleveland has some revenge on their hands from last season's playoff loss to these same Celtics. Cleveland improved in the offseason, getting healthy and getting Mo Williams from Cleveland. Boston may have regressed some, losing Posey. In what should be a relatively low scoring game, points should be at a premium. I will take the Cavs plus the points, in a game that should come down to the final few minutes of the fourth quarter.
Portland Trailblazers +8 2 Units
I am really high on this Portland team this season. Love what I watched from Rudy Fernandez in the Olympics, guy should be a flat out stud. Reminds me of Ginobili, as he has great range and is also athletic and can explode at the rim. Oden bolsters this team up front. They are basically two deep at every position. As a team, they are athletic and as big as any team in the league. The frontcourt with Aldridge, Oden, and Pryzbilla, have the size to bang with Gasol and Bynum up front. Blazers are missing Webster, but have other guys who can fill his spot. Batum, who is starting for Portland at small forward, is said to have great defense and a good jumper. Outlaw comes off the bench to spell him. Also, I expect to see some three guard lineups from Portland, with Blake, Roy, and Rudy out there. This is a Portland team that is going to be very dangerous. I see them hanging around with LA all game long. Give me the points.
Be back later to either add a play or to finalize the current card. Best of luck to everyone tonight and for the entire NBA season....
