Here is the story:

They all of a sudden voided several winning bets I made there.

I sent them this mail:

What on earth are you doing voiding my winning bets?
The system accepted the bets with no problems. Please correct the mistake
and recredit my winnings!

And got this reply:

Thank you for contacting Sports Interaction. North America's first online sports book.  The reason being is because you had went over your
bet limit which i s $550.00.  All wagers that went over had been voided.

Then sent them this:

Thanks for answering me so fast.
But you cant seriously mean that.
I noticed by accident that the system accepted multiple bets at the limit
as is also the case many other places. Of course you cant void winning
bets that the system has accepted and that is already graded a winner long
time ago!
Please correct the mistake now!

And this:

But please understand: What you do is impossible!
You take the wagers, see them win, and then several days after the result
you void them.
Thats extremely unfair.
Please reconsider. Otherwise I will have to take the case up on discussion
boards like theRX etc.

And got these two replies:

Due to a recent error in our software at Sports Interaction some games
over the last week or so have been accepting wagers for more than the
maximum amount allowable for each client on a selection. Our rules
clearly state that the max. bet on Football is $1100 US on the spread,
and moneyline, and $440 on the Over/Under. For all other sports it is
half those respective amounts.

In light of this discovery we have voided all bets placed that took the
bet amount over the maximum allowable on games. For the most part the
bets in question were losing bets, but in some instances they were
winners. In the interest of complete fairness we have voided all of
these affected bets.

If you had any outstanding withdrawals, these have also been cancelled.
You will now be able to submit another withdrawal.

If you log onto your account now you will see the bets in question, and
should you have any questions regarding this or any other matter please
do not hesitate to contact us at support@sportsinteraction.com.

Regards,
Sports InterAction

And:
As it states in our Rules, "Sports Interaction shall in no event be liable for any
damages or losses resulting from or caused by this web site or its content,
including delays in operation or transmission, communication lines failure, or any
errors or omissions in content".
If you have any more questions please contact us again at your convenience.

.....

In one of the last two mails the claim they have to take a loss in order to pay people back their losing bets. If anyone would ever believe such a stupid thing its outright contradicted in the next mail which tells me that they can not be held liable for any
damages or losses resulting from or caused by this web site or its content.

It seems they have simply taken of their normal limits and set them like they are set in many other places. Then they have taken a huge loss. Then they have cancelled all the winning bets and given back some small money to the losing bets.

Sorry to hear about your story. They did at least void losing bets i dont see a positive outcome but their reaction is definitely fraudulent. I'm going to hurry and hedge out by 600 before they change their mind.

If anyone can help me with legal advice or other advice or if any book would make a bail out offer for the money that rightly belongs to me I would greatly appreciate it.

What do expect. I never try to bet more than $550 a game there. When your getting a game 1 to 1 1/2 points different than all the other books you bet $550 and be happy you got it. You
know they kick out winners so you try to stay under the radar.

I mistakenly bet over the limit one time. Seing that this bet was graded a winner alright I thought they had changed their policy in this regard and proceeded to make multiple wagers on other matches. Simple as that.

majbrit,

That sucks and I know the feeling all too well...you bust your butt and finally get lucky and win and then they find whatever stupid technicality they can and take your money. I think the best way to see if they were being unethical is to ask if anyone ever went over their limit and lost and never had it corrected. If so, then this person could be a valuable witness in any potential legal case. But if no such person exists then you will not have a very strong case I'm afraid.

Your best bet legally (assuming you have a case) is to write a letter the Khanawake (sp?) commission, get their predictable "it's out of our hands"-type reply, do the same with the authority that created the commission like the Ministry of Native Affairs or whatever it's called, get their predictable reply and then take it to the Canadian newspapers, especially the liberal ones like the Toronto Star for example. Those guys LOVE stories like that and if you portray yourself as a poor recreational schmo who just likes to make big bets then you could get public opinion on your side and that will finally turn the government's head. Without that public opinion, though, your chances in court will be slim since apparently those Indian reserves are not subject to Canadian laws in the normal sense.

I'm pretty confident you can make waves with a strong case but it's a lot of work. Just my 2c.

im just as confident you have no shot in hell doing anything about anything that happens on an indian reservation. i am always amazed that people want to go to the government to get help when dealing with crooks. known crooks at that. if you do "buisness" and i use the term lightly, then get screwed..guess what? right, your screwed!

to quote somebody somewhere sometime..."here's a quarter....try and find someone who cares"

If there is a true limit there, and your losing wagers were cancelled also, then it seems to me you were trying to steal from them!I know you are going to say, IF I WAS TRYING TO STEAL I'D TAKE THE MONEY OUT RIGHT A WAY! Still sounds fishy to me!

How many bets did you make?....& how much over the limit did you go on each additional bet?....

Also...Did you place this bet as one, lump sum bet or did you place it as multiple wagers?

Although i understand that they have betting limits I find it unethical to cancel bets once the system has accepted them...many people dont read all the rules in detail (although they should) & may not have known the low betting limits...They assume, if the software takes the bet that it should stand...

They are claiming even the losing bets were cancelled? someone else on this board seems to have confirmed this...Very poor business decision in my eyes...they should simply honour their betting limits...

If I was a book and I told a guy his limit was $500 a game and he proceeded to call into guys that worked for me and place multiple bets at the limit. I wouldn't honor them either I wouldn't let him do business with me again either.

Everyone thinks that because something is confirmed by some computer program that it is set in stone. That makes as much sense as the bank accidently depositing someone elses money in my account, what because I have an atm slip that shows my balance it is my money now? SIA is the wrong book to take a shot at.

Stop making a fool out of yourself by threatening legal action and other such nonsense. The limits are clearly stated and they have clearly stated rules disallowing bets over those limits. You bet over those limits, so the bets were voided. They did the right thing. Furthermore, areeff confirmed that his losing wagers that were over the limit were cancelled as well.

What pisses me off about this is that scammers like majbrit break the rules at a good book like Sportsinteraction and then take advantage of the fact that there is already some negativity about this book from bitter players who were kicked out by posting tabloid thread headings about having large amounts of money stolen from them. Read the rules, follow the rules, take advantage of their soft lines and you will find that SIA is a fair sportsbook. As usual, it is only scammers that have something to worry about when playing at Sportsinteraction.

Nick,
Calling him a scammer is a bit harsh don't you think. He bet ovet the limits but in what way was he scamming them? What if his wager lost? How would he execute his carefully planed scam then. You sound like a SIA schill. Add your remarks but ease up on the scam part of it. There have been many many complaints about SIA by many posters over the last 2 years. SIA was not squaky clean in this situation. They screwed up. How about sending an e-mail to their customers explaining what went wrong instead of suprising them. It is reassuring to have someone confirm they refunded losing bets as well. Majbrit, Sorry about the BS but legally they have you by the nuts. My lesson learned from this thread is play somewhere that has higher limits. $440 on a side in the NFL? My friend Bob Sacamato takes higher limits than that.

I agree the tabloid heading is going a bit overboard, but I disagree with:

It's enough for them to think you are a scammer or to suspect you might be a scammer or to bet in a similar style to anyone who has been booted for them to slow pay you and give you the runaround. It's no accident that SIA got taken off the Rx recommended list.

After I saw that the first bet that I made by accident was graded in the correct manner I assumed they had switched to the rules at Pinnacle and many other places and proceeded to make several multiple wagers just like its allowed most other places.

I cant believe you think so. Try to consider the case the other way round: I place several wagers, see them lose, then a week later I write to the bookie and tell them I want my money back because of an error in their system. What a fool that would make me and what a good laugh they would have.
But basically that is what THEY are doing - except its also their system that was malfunctioning (if it was - I doubt that).

I hope you didn't hegde/middle/scalp those bets (which seems likely), because I passed 7th grade algebra ...

majbrit-

can you confirm that they voided ALL wagers over the limit, both winners and losers?

If so, as shitty as it is, you broke the rules, they are correcting it, and they are doing it in a fair manner. It sucks, but I don;t think you have much of a leg to stand on.

I apologize for using the word, "scammer," which is probably a bit too strong. In my view the line was crossed when majbrit decided to put such an inflammatory title on this thread despite the fact that Sportsinteraction did nothing wrong except make a software error.

The bottom line is that Sportsinteraction has clearly posted rules stating that all wagers above the limit will be voided. Normally their software takes care of this by not allowing you to make these large wagers, but in this case the software was flawed so they had to manually make corrections after the wagers were graded.

Here is where the word, "scammer," came to mind when I was thinking about this situation. Majbrit made his initial bet for under the limit. Had he tried to bet more than 1100 on a side or 440 on a total, it would have given him an error message saying that he is betting too large. I know because sometimes I forget that limits on sides are 220 and I put in a higher amount and get an error message.

If Majbrit wanted to bet, say, 3300 on a game, when he entered that amount he would have gotten an error message. So to bet that amount, he would have had to bet 1100 (which is the limit), and then go back and bet 1100 two more times to circumvent the limit. It's not like the software allowed you to place one bet over the limit. The error in the software was in the fact that it allowed you to place multiple bets that, when added together, would add up to an amount over the limit.

To me, when you have to make multiple bets to get over the limit, you have to know that you are doing something wrong. It is not like WSEX where they don't post limits and they just move the line if you keep betting one side over and over again. SIA has clearly posted limits and a clearly stated rule that all bets placed for more than the limit will be voided.

My guess is that Majbrit happened to hit a hot streak and was riding it out by making large bets. Either that or he was middling with another book that accepts larger limit bets. It is hard for me to imagine that someone who normally bets several thousand a game would sign up at SIA and think that they could place large wagers there. In either case I can see where he is frustrated but the bottom line is that SIA did the right thing here.

before you post this BS,
maybe you should go to their rules section.

their limit is $550 for sides and $220 for totals.

they got the rights to cancel your bets.
