Nearly 4 in 10 Americans say their views have grown more conservative

by Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, NJ -- Despite the results of the 2008 presidential election, Americans, by a 2-to-1 margin, say their political views in recent years have become more conservative rather than more liberal, 39% to 18%, with 42% saying they have not changed. While independents and Democrats most often say their views haven't changed, more members of all three major partisan groups indicate that their views have shifted to the right rather than to the left.

What exactly does that mean?

And how exactly does that translate into votes for Republicans, cause they got their asses kicked in 2006 and 2008 by an electorate that is apparently turning more conservative?

Obama had 52.7% of the votes and you call that an ass kicking?

Did you actually look at the end results or did you just read the Liberal newspapers headline... " Obama wins by a landslide".

Willie99-

The positive thing that I can think of is last time we had Jimmy the peanut famer Cater in office, he did so bad it brought us Ronald Reagan.

:toast:

Maybe 3.5 more years or less of Obama/Biden will bring us Ron Paul or some other true conservative.

Someone needs to field conservative candidates and capitalize on this trend quick!

capitalize on this trend? well that's exactly what has been happening since 1968, with an occasional step backwards. Kinda like a good stock's chart, trending higher.

every now and then an extreme libby comes along, and conservatives get a big big big bounce. See Peanut Farmer 1980 and Bubba 1994 (how did that health care takeover attempt work out?) Soon mama obama joins this list of motivating conservatives.

As far as fielding conservative candidates, that's been a tough one. Seems like everyone spends more than they should once they get to DC. Of course Obama is showing us what real spending and regulations and bigger governmnet is all about. Somehow managing to make Bush look like he was fucking frugal.

So let me get this straight. The electorate is growing more conservative and yet they couldn't beat this guy?

There will always be some liberal / Democratic strongholds. Places like;
Minnesota, the value system that brought us GTC
Massachusetts, who emulate the Brits and their royal family
San Fran, one of the few places in the world that would be a safe seat for the witch bitch (you see, they actually think she's a drag queen)
and the poorest least educated slums in our country.

look at the common thread in those communities. San Fran, Provincetown, Barney Franks, Gerry Stuggs, Al Franken, GTC08, Alcie Hastings & Marion Berry.

How weird is it that KKK Byrd and Al Sharpton are political allies anyway?

and fuck your mother too

Minnesota is a conservative state. And Al Fucking Franken beat a conservative.

These self-serving polls may help you guys sleep better at night after being massacred the last two elections, but reality disagrees.

Been watching my fellow Americans and also self-analyzing my own beliefs and social habits for over 30 (adult) years now and one thing I've learned is that one man's definition of "conservative" would cause another self-proclaimed "conservative" to argue in rabid protest.

HuskyFan aptly notes: There will always be some liberal / Democratic strongholds. Places like;

Bar: Don't forget Connecticut, Maryland, the bulk of South Florida (including Palm and Broward County...two rather wealthy demos), South Texas (including Austin, San Antonio and Houston), much of Colorado and New Mexico.

We're pretty much everywhere, man.

Though everytime we think we might be getting a "stronghold" some "conservative" type buys the house across the street and we find out we both like sports, good food, climate control, cable TV and pretty women.

So darnit, we just somehow figure out a way to peaceably coexist.

I am a Virginian and I am so proud to learn when studying history that Virginians never got along with people from Massachusets. During the revolutionary war George Washington our great leader had to break up fights between the guys from my state and the guys from Boston.

You are right, The democratic party is a pretty interesting set of factions. You have the rich, elitist, liberal policy makers and the people at the very bottom rugs of society.

If only the poor black people on the bottom saw how Nancy Pelosi and her kind used them for votes I'm sure they wouldn't be democrats very long. In fact, Washington DC is a perfect example of that.

DC has liberals and DC has democrats.

The "rich/well off" Liberals wouldn't be caught dead in the democratic slums.

Yeah, the state that has the distinction of having the longest streak of voting for the Democrat in the Presidential race is very conservative.

DEAC, Minnesota is one of the most liberal states in the Union. Walter Mondale & Paul Wellstone & Al Franken, come on now.

Minnesota has voted for the democratic presidential candidate every year since 1976. They were one a less than 10 states to go to Carter in 1980 & Dukakis in 1988, and the only state to go for Mondale in 1984. They have the longest blue streak in the nation, save for DC. I believe is something like 90% AA, so the likelihood of a GOP victory there is nil considering their current & consistent voting patterns.

Minnesota is not a conservative state. CA has voted republican more often in my lifetime than MN.

MN is very far from being conservative. Just look at the Mn legislature and all the tax increases that they overrode Pawlenty's vetos. Our gas tax is on a four year progressive tax increase passed this past year, vetoed by Pawlenty and overridden by the DFL dominated state leg.. Our sales tax just went up another 3/8% on July 1st thanks to the DFL party.

The worst part of the liberal system here is that it has encouraged thousands of welfare leeches to leave their homes in Chicago, Gary, and Milwaukee and move here to be welfare leeches. Once nice middle class suburbs like Brooklyn Center, and Brooklyn Park have become near ghetto-crime ridden slum areas. It has also brought thousands of Somalis to this state, many of which are also becoming a large part of the crime problem in the city and reaching into the suburbs. MN is definitely very liberal except for the smaller communities.

Willie, I actually have commented numerous times to friends that if you are independent, you can't help but have a slight lean to the right now because the bar has been pushed so far to the left.

LOL, more blame for Bush

2008 Obama D
2004 Kerry D

2000 Gore D

1996 Clinton D
1992 Clinton D
1988 Dukakis D (1 of something like 7 states)
1984 Mondale D (the only state)
1980 Carter D (1 of 10 or so states)
1976 Carter

maybe they became a liberal state when Bush was born, it was some 10,000 lake prophesy or something

:think2:
