YTD 1-1
9-3 last year. Still got big plans for this one.
BYU +4 at Stanford
Plays against teams who pound on weak competition early in the year are always attractive to me. This one fits right in.
What follows are some excerpts from a conversation I had earlier today:
Me: "I'm thinking about playing BYU tomorrow. Stanford won big, but their offensive line played like they had abasia."
Them: "Well, Hey Notre Dame sucks". Then I say, "So you think Stanford's better?"
"Well, no, but what about the letdown aspect off BYU's big win?"
Me: "I thought you just said Notre Dame sucked?"
"Well, yeah, but BYU's gotta play USC next... classic sandwich game.
"Umm, actually Stanford's next game is against USC too."
"Nuh uh!"
"I promise"
"That's fine, but Stanford beat them last year, at BYU, right?"
"That's true. I like the revenge angle, though, and BYU would have won except for some poorly timed turnovers."
"Come on, why would you bet on a bunch of white guys more worried about their three year trip to Zimbabwe than the game at hand?"
Me: "Are you joking?"
"Haha, got one. The starting QB's out!"
"Actually, he's not officially out. But even if he is, the backup was a starter last year, will be facing an less than average defense, and just got done beating Notre Dame."
"Yeah but Notre Dame sucks."
"I'm leaving."
"Hold on.... ummm... what's abasia?"
And so it went. Even if Beck can't go, Berry will be able to have success. Cardinal QB Edwards took a beating vs. SDSU, and against BYU's aggressive scheme will be lucky to get out with all limbs intact.
Even if it is close, BYU's special teams looked terrific last week, and P/K Payne (MWC special teams POTW) hit two long field goals and repeatedly pinned the Irish deep. Stanford's kicker is 16-28 in his career.
Believe the hype, folks. BYU wins by double digits.
Space.
