And Pitt could screw him again BY Franchising him again next year at the same number

I believe the figure jumps to $26 million next year, something to do with using it three years in a row on the same player. At that price, they simply couldn’t do it.

They can place a transition tag on him where they have the opportunity to match the highest bidder. But they would lose a 3rd round pick. They’re just gonna let him walk.

Don't see him going to pack. AJ is our guy and the drama and $$ tag not coming to the locker room.

Bell has already exposed a loophole in the franchise-tagging system, namely that even when a player sits out an entire year when he has been designated as a franchise player, the year accrues. So in Bell’s case, 2018 was his second straight franchise tag year, meaning that if the Steelers really, truly, after all of this wanted to franchise him again in 2019 it would be his third straight tag and be incredibly expensive.

As noted by Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, a third tag for Bell would garner him the higher of two numbers: either 144 percent of Bell’s 2018 salary (in this case, $20,808,000) or the average of the league’s top five highest paid quarterbacks, which would be north of $25 million.

Have a feeling he won't get a better offer than the Steelers tried to give him (5 years, 70 mill) when he signs with another team. Probably end up signing a lower offer plus be on a team that doesn't have a chance at the SB title

Sounds about right. They get some cap space back though and I think Ben’s contract is up after next season.

Bell would be a great addition even with a young talent like Jones but Packers have a lot more offseason needs than a top dollar rb.

Agree on your feeling but I think the guaranteed money on his next deal is what will determine the answer. I remember seeing reports the guarantee from Pitt was anywhere from 25 to 45 mil with most of it over first 3.

Seattle would be a great fit for Bell. They have to extend Russ this offseason first but there will be more than enough cap room to bring in guys.

As a Packer fan, there’s absolutely no way Bell is going to the Pack. They rather waste Rodgers than spend money. Great great strategy.

100% Correct, I was reading up on the same thing the other day.
