Listen folks...
I have said several times in the past few months that after
nearly 20 years of watching all of the different developments
go by, a light came on when I was watching Colorado practice
on Pac-TV over the winter/summer break. I was blown away
by how fast and athletic (and big) the 2016 Buffs appeared to
be. The Buff's QB Sifo Liufau is deadly accurate (15/18) and
he can run.
But that's not the "trend" itself. The trend is under the subject
of a specific coaching situation. From what I've seen, it can be
a deadly weapon to use as you wish.
It goes like this...
When a winning coach, even from a lower division gets a new
job, his team will likely cover 75% of the time or more. But --
there's a hitch... he must have come from a previously losing
team that he successfully turned around.
Think Chip Kelly, Jim Harbaugh... they turned out pretty well
as HCs in D-1A. More than pretty well, both of them. Harbaugh
lifted Stanford out of the trash pile and they are STILL dangerous.
He did the same when he coached at the University of San Diego
before Stanford.
I'm posting this because the point here is about winning money.
I wonder how many locals ate it big when Stanford played USC
and they went off as a dog @ 55/1 and they went on to beat the
Trojans. I don't remember if it was year #2 or #3 in Harbaugh's
reign when Stanford went 10-2 ATS.
Mike MacIntyre already pulled that off at SJSU a few years ago.
Before Mike MacIntyre arrived, SJSU had been a doormat in the
WAC. I like the guy. If you listen to him talk, you'll hear how he
speaks in a way that shows you just how sharp he really is. I'm
sure that he sees things clearly and knows how to make things
go his way.
This posyt is also about winners that bring with them a culture
change. It normally takes a coach 2-3 years to make a culture
change and Mike MacIntyre is now in year #3 at Colorado. I'm
sure that he is one of them.
We'll know in a couple of weeks if the Buffs are an automatic play
on team every week. Colorado and Mike MacIntyre fit the profile.
I've said that Colorado will be the most improved Pac-12 team
this year. So far, I think I'm right. If I am, the books will take a
long time to adjust.
