Both Josh Nesbitt and Jaybo Shaw are healthy and could both see playing time, even though Nesbitt will start and see the majority of the time. Don't be confused by the scoreline last week against a no name d-1AA team that kept it close. Both QB's were on the sideline. Nesbitt got banged week 1 if memory serves me right and I honestly thought the season was over, until i saw Shaw who isn't too shabby. Clemson for all intensive purposes is a mess right now. You'd have to be in a coma to not know that they just let go of Bowden. And i know someguy will post, but that's going to motivate the players this week because they hated tommy and will play better. I'm not buying it for a second. On top of losing their their coach they have to prepare for the triple-option. Yeah that's never easy let alone with all this turmoil. What do you guys think, I obviously am on board with GT, am I off base???

This is hard to gauge. Didn't GT lay an egg last week against a 1AA team?

Logic would say that GT should smoke Clemson. However, these are the kind of games where teams rally around each other and play w/ a lot of emotion.

UF lost to UGA the week they fired Zook. But, Zook coached the game....unlike this week when Bowden will not coach Clemson. UF rallied around Zook and won their last 3 games after the UGA game that season (including an upset at FSU).

So, I don't know. You asked for a reason. So, there you have it!

(Here I go again!)....

Fine I will stick up for Clemson.

I personally am betting on Clemson because I think they more organized right now than most people are willing to give them credit. This is not like Swinney is an outsider coming in to pick up the pieces, he knows the players and the players are ready to play for him. All week I have been reading quotes from players who have basically said that they had quit on Bowden.

If you watched the Wake Forest game, then you knew that already. It isnt that this team isnt very talented; they were so deflated by the Alabama disaster that there has been dissention within the team ever since. They have looked extremely sluggish and unmotivated.

In spite of the QB questions and the major coaching questions, I feel that this is a top 10 caliber team who are in essence starting over. This team

Football wise, the defense has the speed to shut the option down, and I expect the play calling offensively to be much improved since Swinney has wisely discarded Spence.

My bet is that Clemson is a new football team, and it starts on Saturday in front of what will be an incredibly raucous , celebratory crowd. Tigers by 10.

One reason why they might not. Dabo Swinney is reputable as a players coach and one of the best recruiters in the country. He has already sent out a letter to the student body requesting their support. The team will be wearing all Orange and he has requested that the fans do so as well to show unity. He has implemented a "Tiger Walk" similar to Auburn upon entering the stadium. The players were unemotional and ununified under Bowden and Spence, which is why both were let go and Dabo got the interim. The players love Swinney and will play for him. Harper's words will have him pined for the rest of his career as his attitude bled to others. Korn is a good athlete who can move outside of the pocket. That will actually help the Offense.

I've talked to a couple of former Alabama players who played with Dabo......Swinney feels like he can get this team playing together and headed in a positive direction. His approval rating is high by the University. Clemson is not a bad team......they simply haven't been a team this year. They will Saturday........win or lose, they will look better.

I was going to start this thread...

first of all, yes, GT laid an egg last week - with their third string QB, who is 6'4" 235 lb. passer in charge of the spread-option, and had never started a game before. Everyone has let down games and if a bunch of high school kids aren't focused, anything can and will happen.

That said...

  • Nesbitt is running full speed again (hurt against MissSt-game 5) and Shaw is a more than suitable back-up having played most of the Ole Miss game and starting vs. Duke. (a concussion kept him out last week.
  • Georgia Tech averaged over 400 yards on offense against Va Tech (who they outgained but lost to turnovers), MSU (SEC) and Duke (conference rival who aren't so bad this year).
  • They 4-0 ats this year, and had a real shot to beat VATech straight up - chalk it up to learning the new offense (which they still are). But the next two games they racked up almost 900 yards and scored 65 points.
  • Their defense is #6 in the nation.
  • CPJ is one of the best coaches there is. He WILL have the Wreck ready to play Clemson. GT is flying under the radar this year, not getting any respect because CPJ doesn't get any national respect because people think the spread-option is no longer effective at this level. Well, Navy was the top rushing school in the nation 4 out of the last years, and the other two they were 3rd. He will win a National Title in less than 5 years - bank on that.
  • The offense isn't quite as one-dimensional and Nesbitt/Shaw can both throw if they have to - Shaw threw for 250 yards vs. Duke.
  • Clemson fired their coach 3 days ago, the second coach in two weeks to be let go. It won't be unheard of for a team to turn it around mid-season after a firing. Well, I can't think of any good examples of that happening - I would imagine it is the exception, not the rule.
  • Clemson will not be able to run the ball against this GT defense which means the game will be in the hands of a red-shirt Freshman, starting for the first time against the 5th ranked pass defense, first in tackles for a loss, and he's supposed to be effective?
Play GT big - gonna be my biggest play of the year.

Just a thought, the way you guys are all backing Georgia Tech is the exact reason I would fade them. Think about it. Also, Clemson has had 2 weeks to prepare for this game, that makes a big difference.

**disclaimer - I'm not betting on this game :) Best of Luck to all!

I thought about it, I don't get it. All the reasons why GT will roll is the reason to fade them?

They will have had 4 days with new coach.

They very well may roll, just trying to give you some possible reasons why they may not....since you asked for them.

What I meant by fading them was this, GT is going to be a public team this week thus there is probably value in fading them, that's all.

Good Luck
