True, but the wait in traffic sucks up your gas the same.

What is the longest driving commute of anyone you know in CR? I heard people complaining about driving to Heredia, but what is that like 10 miles? I know the traffic can be bad, but in most US cities a 10 mile one-way commute is something most people wish they had, even if they had to do it on the one backed-up road.

I rarely end up in gridlocks but that's because I know backroads and avoid driving at the worst times (8 am and 5:30 pm) , if I have to drive at those hours I rather leave 30 mins early or wait 30 minutes more until the peak of the commute is over

anywhere to heredia at rush hour can be a nightmare

if you have to commute from pavas to san pedro that can be pretty horrible as well (pavas is 2 miles west of sabana/oficentro/cris building)
