Bush sits for 7 minutes and no attempt to even bring down the planes still hijacked and we all (well 88% of us) rally behind him none the less and the bulk of the country supported a war with a budget of 200+ billion.
For over a year after 911 late night hosts and the press give bush a free pass. Shift money from the troops in Afghanistan for a war in Iraq? no problem. Make claims of "flying drones" and "dirty bombs" - no problem.
But our OWN FREAKING PEOPLE in the South get obliterated. In less than a week there are people "on the right" and even people in here who are claiming that 10-20 billion is a "waste" of money to rebuild one of the true jewels of our nation. Lest we forget that parts of Mississippi were obliterated and yet there has never been a question about rebuilding there.
This cult of personality thing is an embarassment for a country that claims to "lead the free world". People getting giddy because maybe the head of FEMA will fall on his sword but the man who appoited him can't be expected to be accountable. We blame the mayor and the governor, but god forbid the biggest natural disaster in our history hits the country and we're left with politicians on both sides vying for photo ops and patting eachother on the back.
Just look at this board. It's staggering how people support Bush no matter what. Guy is asleep at the wheel during 911..."others had the wheels in motion" - the guy says he'll fire anyone involved with the leak of a cia operative "well, anyone convicted" - no big deal. The guy is stomping around with a guitar like Nero while a big part of our country is in turmoil "well, lets blame the mayor"
An absolute joke. I'm not saying this disaster was Bush's fault...I'm not blaming his enviro policies either. However, we can drop 500,000 meals on Afghani's but we can't drop water and sandwiches by the thousand to keep people alive until the "cavalry" arrives.
But hey - keep showing those pictures of those busses in the water. It's nice to know that thousands of dead can still be painted "red or blue" under the man who said he'd unite the country.
