i live in a single family home here, with a pretty normal and reasonable association.

Do i have any recourse???

Doesn't matter which candidate is on the sign, I think it would be terrible if a sign with any candidate on it would be asked to be taken down.

That's one of several reasons I don't like those associations. I believe you have very little recourse. You voluntarily agreed to be under association rules.

Most of those associations have more power than the KGB in their heyday.

All sorts of halloween and Christmas decorations are OK. I was given a copy of the rule that doesn't allow for advertising your business on signs. :think2:

Its in your by-laws of your association bidner. More often than not, they won't allow a sign since its their property. Now they can't say shit to you if taped it to the inside of your front window or the front of your door.

I have to agree. I have had many a run-in with HOA's over my life and they never lose. The only recourse you think you have is to stop paying the assessment. Then they lien your house and chg you big time to release the lien after you realize you have no power and pay the back-assessment.

Its really unbelievable. I contacted an attorney and explained the whole situation and he goes "there is absolutely nothing you can do. Pay the assessment and the fines and dont mess with them anymore".

as i hear and read all the crazy stuff going on..be glad they don't allow it..i think one would have to be a fool putting anything in their yard backing either candidate...or even on their car...little old lady that lives out here came to my door last week and told me her car got keyed...and blamed it on her bumper sticker..i think it may have been due to the fact that she can't drive and parks in 2 spaces many times...but who knows?

we also have rules about political signs/flags etc..best not to rock the boat and just live in harmony...we had someone put up american flag for independence day and we did not say nothing and the next week someone put up a rebel flag and the trouble started...associations (at least ours) try to be fair and to be fair you just don't allow some things, that may lead to trouble..

I don't think your neighbors are going to appreciate your advice if you piss them off.

I'd hate to be a white guy put in a position to tell anyone to take down an Obama sign, sad.

Seriously E - they don't allow it here in our townhome HOA either.

I just put a good sized Obama sticker on the back window and tailgate of my truck, but that's the only run I can give without incurring the wrath of the HOA Nazis.

We've been renting here for three years now and I have to fend off a letter every couple months from the HOA attorney if I don't put a tarp over the back of my truck to conceal my lawn mowers and gardening gear.

Lord knows we don't want evidence of a true workin' man in our hood.

they dont use that term in Illinois. They use "rabble-rouser".

"5TEAMPARLAY" a born and bred Chitowner, but he brought his rabble rousin' down south years ago and we're all the better for it.

Ron Havens, who lives near Odessa, knew his Halloween display of the presidential candidates -- Barack Obama being chased by a Klan-hooded John McCain -- would stir up controversy. Havens said the display is his way of protesting McCain's treatment of Obama
