So Republicans simply propose that the facts be released before there is a vote

and the Democrats reject their proposal. Nothing more, nothing less.

The GOP proposed that the details of the health care bill be disclosed, including the financial assessment of such bill by the CBO, before Congress votes on such bill. The Democrats said no!!!!

Why you might ask? because the Democrats say doing such would delay the bill two to three weeks. Seriously, are stupid does it get?

Why is one party afraid of the truth? Why is one party suppressing debate where it counts, in Congress? (LOL at the Town Hall outrage, fucking hypocrites) Why is waiting two or three weeks a problem when taking over 17% of our economy and impacting 300 million people?

Why are they afraid of transparency? why are they afraid of knowledge? why are they afraid of informed voters? why are they afraid of debate?

It's wrong, very wrong.

I'm just glad to see them getting on with this important business.

The reason I vote to elect three Congressional representatives is so they can "represent" for me in Congress and I can go about my life.

If I wanted to review all the details of all the legislation that is proposed in the U.S. Congress, I wouldn't have time for the rest of my life. That's why I have the three Congressional reps. They do that job on my behalf.

and if your reps don't know the details because the fine print is not available, so be it.

heaven forbid one of your reps should want an independent financial analysis done by the CBO before voting, don't need that either

just take Harry and Nancy & Barry at their word, they earned your trust

do you really want your three reps to be as informed as you are?

Why do you spend time in the Poli-forum commenting? By your own admission your are ignorant, and wish to remain that way.

I don't mean this as a personal attack either, but that's how I'm reading this.

There's no way that my three Congressional reps could be less informed than I am about proposed federal legislation

Though I wouldn't mind if the Pentagon started publicly detailing all their upcoming military moves so I could weigh in with my hot political opinions before they made their final decisions.

cool...I don't take that as a personal attack.

I post in the poli-forum as a means of trading reactions to current events and every once in a while I'll drop in a sincere political point of view.

My first post in this thread, however, was completely sincere.

There are literally dozens of legislative bills proposed in the U.S. Congress every single month. Our system of government is designed to allow me to have elected representatives who more often than not will introduce, promote and/or vote for legislation that is in the best interest of the community.

If at any point I feel that they are doing more harm than they are good, I have the freedom and power to rally my fellow community members together and replace currently elected officials with new ones.

In between, I would - in nearly all cases - be foolish to take time away from more important family/business and local community needs and redirect that energy into doing a job for which I already pay three other people to do.

In the year 2009, with each passing day the actual impact that the actions of U.S. federal government have on my life and those around me decreases. Thus I am, more than ever before, inclined to focus on family, business and personal needs and not lose much sleep or other positive energy worrying about the details of actions in Washington about which - very frankly - I have absolutely no control or ability to impact.

Sure they can for two reasons 1) Seems like a lot lately have admitted the don't even read the bill they vote on and 2) They can be ideologues.

I get we wont all read every bill, but a few weeks to hear the debate of what's in it would help us all. Hell...Look at all the pork they pour into some of these bills..no wonder they rush it thru.

I don't disagree that it can be useful to contact reps with our personal points of view on fringe "pork" legislation.

To that end, I have other people who I rely on to keep me informed when such contact is needed.

But with regard to the lead Topic in this thread, I've already weighed in with my three reps earlier this summer, though I believe my influence is dubious at best. Sending them additional mails to tell them what I already told them back in June would wasting both my time and that of their staff who screen and process such communications.

I think barman is joking here but the sad truth is that this is how many in the country truly feel. They think these politicos have our best interest at heart when they don't. This is a tremendous problem in our society. Voters gravitate to the mouth that says what they want to hear and vote for them and really don't give a shit if the guy/girl does what he says or not. they blindly trust the person to do what they say and that it will all work out. Most liberals don't want to think for themselves and hand that task to the people that say they will take care of them. It is a sad time for our country.
