When someone has such a brazen disrespect and hatred for a certain type of people (white, employed, gun toting Americans), and abuses his power in the way this fool has, there is no limitation on what they are subject to be criticized for. Including their marital status.

If it was a freedom loving American in office with the country's interests before their agenda, say like Mitt Romney would be, then it would be purely hatred and jealousy driving that criticism.
