Well, I thought I'd at least get one comment on why NE has such a stellar defense, but all I'm seeing is Seattle bashing. It just seems like the Patriots haven't exactly been shutting teams down and I was hoping someone would come in with a strong case for them with some valid reasoning. I understand the argument that the Seahawks haven't exactly played offensive powerhouses recently (and I think it's valid), but I'm questioning the strength of the Patriots opponents also.
What's happening Bright Eyes?
NE was lucky to get by Baltimore. They were down by 14 twice. They couldn’t run or pass because of a dominant Baltimore front seven. So Brady went to a short pass to compensate and of course Belichick worked his magic with legal formations that confused Baltimore.
Baltimore ran on NE fairly well. That is NE’s weakness.
NE went on to destroy a inferior Indy team.
Seattle destroyed an inferior Carolina team and then struggled against GB. The fact they held GB to 6 in the second half after giving up 16 in the first half was the key to victory. And of course they had a ton of luck with McCarthy being conservative and turning the ball over 5 times and recovering an on side kick. They should have lost.
If NE falls behind by 14 against Seattle it’s game over.
Key match up Gronk vs. Chancellor. Chancellor is big enough and fast enough to cover Gronk one on one.
As I said before NE’s weakness is stopping the run. Of course NE will sell out to stop the run and they will be successful for a while but come the 4th quarter Lynch will take over. Provided they are not way behind and have to pass. I also think Wilson will cause problems for NE by converting 3rd downs with his legs.
I doubt NE will put up their customary 35 to 40 points on Seattle. If they do they’ll probably win.
I’m going with Seattle, I’d rather bet on a good team coming off a bad performance against an equally good team than a good team coming off a blow out performance against an inferior team.
