So my brother in law runs a sporting goods store. We went out for a beer today. He was saying that he was FORCING his employees to say Merry Xmas to all his customers. He has the decorations out in the store and the whole nine yards. Even wears a santa hat around the store.
He said his employees have been getting numerous dirty looks and comments/complaints. One gentleman even asked to speak with my brother in law and told him it's Happy Holidays not Merry Christmas.
Now it's all about the profits and keeping customers happy so he told his employees to stop saying Merry Christmas. If a customer says it first, by all means say it back or stick with ''and the same to you, thank you''
Why do people get offended by Merry Christmas? It's not even that religious. It's more about a big commercial day for the stores and everything. Hardly any religious aspect to it at all these days. The other thing that surprises me is that his visible minority customers were always saying Merry Christmas back with a smile. It's Caucasians that are making a big deal out of it. Why? My theory is that it's Atheists and die hard Christians that believe Christmas is actually not supposed to be celebrated as it's not really Christian.
Either way, do the words Merry Christmas really hurt you that bad if you don't celebrate it? I don't know. I guess that's how it has to be. My brother in law has to run a business and according to him many of other business owners are sticking with Happy Holidays to be safe.
Well Merry Christmas guys. And I mean NO offense. Happy holidays to the others! Christmas has become more of a commercial and retail thing rather than a Christian thing. Lighten up to those that get offended. We are just wishing you Merry Christmas not clubbing you over the head and dragging you to our homes to decorate the tree or sing Christmas carols. Relax.
