It's a slightly below lateral move. The word in Wisconsin is that Barry Alvarez is hard to work for.....that's why Bielema left for Arkansas.

don't know too many of us 40 or 50 somethings that would ever consider Wisconsin a prestigious job. and since he bumped his pay >10% plus has a lot more money for assistant coaches I doubt he would see this as a move down either

There is no question that Wisconsin to Oregon State is a huge drop, as far as teams go. Oregon State has never won anything. As far as the actual job and pay are concerned, anything that gets you a small raise and away from Der Fuhrer (Barry Alvarez) has got to be an improvement.

thanks for the responses... i was aware of the alvarez factor.... i also remember seeing on here that alvarez got paid extra to coach the bowl game LOL

good example that the last person to do this was fleeing wisconsin too.... i think he left for arkansas voluntarily.

it's funny the comment about wisconsin and how old you are... i don't remember too much of wisconsin before ron dayne years (maybe brent/brett fullard??. was he right before dayne though?.............. anyway, strikes me that wisconsin football became huge (on-field and off-field) overnight. talent pool in wisconsin can't be great but they have/had a nice pipeline into other cities such as st louis that i remember
