Mario Lemieux endured herinated muscles, two back surgeries, lymphomia, radiation treatments, atrial fillbulation, and Crosby is going to retire, (at 24), due to headaches? Please.

even if he announces "retirement" i'm sure he'll return once these headaches subside. word is he hasn't felt better than 80-85% even after being cleared to do on-ice drills. Maybe a full year off will get him back to 100% and announcing it now would at least stop speculation from entering training camps.

I've heard full retirement but in the long run that doesn't mean much of anything

That would suck. Having the world by the balls, then having to retire at 24.

Worst day in the history of the game and they are going to continue with the "Sidney "How I'm doing" presser. Crazy. Delay it a day.

well not much of a press conference...basically saying same thing over and over for 9 months

short version: Sid won't be playing until he's 100% and he's not close to 100%. He still can't exert himself but seems to be getting better but not even close to coming back and taking a hit. sid says he's not retiring but won't play until the doctors clear him at 100% and those guys said that they WILL clear him someday but not soon

sad times for hockey. The NHL has no leadership, no brains. Concussions have steadily been on the rise (minor, Jr, pros). The game is crazy fast, players are stronger. The NFL has a no tolerance policy to head shots. Even with its greatest player on the verge of forced retirement, the NHL is doing...... nothing, nada, zippo.

(USA minor hockey just changed policy for the 2011-2012 hockey season. Hitting/body contact used to start at peewee (age 12) at rep levels. It will now start at bantam (age 14). Hockey Canada has not followed suit. Hitting remains at minor peewee (age 11) in Ontario. Let the debate roll on.... )

Marc Savard is DONE. Hopefully Sid ain't, would be a damn shame

do some reading on the debilitating effects of concussion(s), and the risk of repeated concussions, its cumulative effects

You seem to be the expert on everything. Why don't you enlighten me.

His main doctor at the presser [to his right] stated once this concussion was properly healed, if would be like he never had one before if concussed again. Willing to bet the Savard, Lindros ect previous concussions weren't properly healed and then sent back out to battle. The Dr. answered this exact question this afternoon from someone in the press.

Just curious...so are you saying from the reading you've done...[from your own words]...through googling, you've reached a different conclusion as to how he's apt to come out of this, than the 2 fine doctors sitting at his press conference this afternoon? Elaborate if you will.

have not reached any 'conclusion' as to the future of Sidney Crosby in hockey.

it's his call. Those doctors cannot give any guarantees regarding the brain's capabilty of complete repair/healing going forward from a future violent episode (concussion). They cannot deny cumulative effect of a second concussion. The time to say he's 'ready' is based on a lack of symptoms. Not like healing a broken arm. Entirely different organ. They also have no idea as to when he'll be ready to go again, if ever. 'wait and see'. Humbling, ain't it.

you mentioned Savard and Lindros were allowed to play BEFORE their respective concussions had a lack of symptoms. Do you have ANY evidence for this?

I hate that whiny little bitch as much as the next guy, but this might be the most ignorant perspective you could have. Something tells me that if your ass had post-concussion symptoms, you wouldn't leave your computer, nevermind go out and potentially become a vegetable.

Lindros didn't retire after his first couple concussions. That worked out great for him, didn't it? Poor fuck probably forgot how to do math and drinks from his shoes.

And BTW, yeah Mario endured a lot but he was also the biggest whiner in the game. Hency why his little buddy has turned into the new biggest whiner in the game.
