I don't know about this one, it's obviously going to do well, but how well is the question, eh? Gil, you're mister kiddie flick, you've got your finger on the pulse of Canada's playgrounds, what do you hear? It's opening on Wednesday, 70 million 3 day? 105 5 day?

hmmm I don't know, it's getting great reviews.... opening on Wednesday shouldn't help the under too much, either, since kids are in school anyways, right? EVERYONE is saying it's gonna have a HUGE weekend. It's got a near record-setting theater count..... but... I'll take my chances with the under 72.5 +130. I initially figured around 72.5 would be the high-end number for this movie, and I'll stick with that. 3 units.

10-12 -.25 units

seen like 2 theater reports so far, one said the entire theater was packed with kids at the noon showing(they said kids were off school this week where they lived), and then there's this one(maybe kids have school in this area):

shrek report.capacity seat 200-250. 10 people were in. movie great. 1:00 showing. they started at 10:00 with 4 theatres alllll day--

the sold-out show at noon report has me worried.

The ogre Shrek and characters like Donkey, Princess Fiona and the new Puss in Boots have such diverse fans that they lend themselves to multiple products, Globe said, adding: "The real value is the movie has such a wide appeal.

Worldwide, DreamWorks sold over 42 million DVDs and videos of the original "Shrek" in 2001, when DVD players were in just 26 million U.S. homes. Today, around 60 million homes have DVD players, according to industry reports.

holy crap, so 60% of everyone that owns a dvd player also owns Shrek!? That's not good... this thing might actually do as well as everyone is saying, 80 million weekend? For Shrek? I just don't see it happening.

I think you better not count your chickens before they're hatched. Theater count for this weekend is 4163. Widest opening ever.

11 million on Wednesday could be a bad thing for you. More people waiting for the weekend. Parents can't take their kids to see Shrek during the day Wed, Thurs.

I still doubt it's gonna top 70 mil this weekend. Some Pokemon movie made 10 million on it's opening Wednesday and only made like 5 more bucks that weekend.

Seriously, a lot of people are saying what you just said, but, I think they're just deluding themselves. So Finding Nemo raked in 70 million, so what, that was a Pixar flick. This ain't Pixar baby!!!

BELLWETHER DEBUTS

Benchmarks to watch will be whether "Shrek 2" can beat the five-day record for a Wednesday domestic debut held by 2003's "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," at $124.1 million or the three-day record of 2002's "Spider-Man" at $114.9 million.

I really don't get where people are coming up with this stuff... really, there is absolutely NO reason Shrek should beat Spiderman or a Lord of the Rings movie. We're talking about a cartoon here. Yeah, Shrek was a good movie. But was it that great? How many people that saw the first one have no desire to see a sequel? How many more people than the swarms of Finding Nemo fanatics that gave that movie a 70 million dollar opening are going to rush out the first 5 days of release for Shrek? None. It could end up with a 70 million 5 day.

nope. I'm a lot more worried that I won't win my Intertops bet because it might fail to cross the 60 million mark. Actually, Toy Stor 2 opened on a wednesday, Thanksgiving actually, made 10 million on wednesday, then made 59 million that weekend. I'd say with the kids in school these last 2 days we're in for a 65 million weekend compared to Toy Story's performance. If Gigli was released in 5000 theaters would it have miraculously made 50 million bucks?

I still can't believe it made 28 million last night! WHAT THE ****? How does it go from 11 million on wednesday to 28 FREAKIN MILLION DOLLARS on Friday? This is starting to look a lot like last summer when I got my butt kicked by the Hulk and Charlie's Angels.

Day After Tommorrow is coming up, and it's another tough one. Who the hell knows that that's gonna make, it looks like it should do pretty good but I've heard some negativity on the message boards... maybe time to take a week off. Harry Potter could be an easy over, but they're gonna have to set the line pretty high for that one.... after Shrek kicked ass they'll have to set that line at at least 80 million....
