If you could convince me that it isn't a gateway drug, I might
say yes.

Though, I think it should be illegal for minors in any case.

I hate to play devils advocate here, but the first half of your statement doesn’t make sense. I mean, alcohol and cigarettes come before smoking pot, so in essence they are gateway drugs. Should we make them illegal as well? I would second the second half of your statement however, as i think that should be automatic with any drug.

yes i dont think there is any reason to keep it illegal. It is not hard to find if you want it. it is relatively safe and makes people more calm rather than angry.

Why does everybody assume that weed is a "gateway" drug? I smoke it and I have never EVER touched anything else. I have friends that smoke it and have never touched anything else. You can also say that alcohol is a gateway to drugs. It's not weed that gets people taking other drugs, it's their weak ass minds that make them chase highs.

The only reason it is illegal is because our corrupt, greedy politicians cannot possibly fatten their wallets with something that we can grow in our backyards. That is why it's illegal. It's not because they give a shit about us. If they did, they would make alcohol illegal.

Fletch and SunTzu,

The classification of pot as a gateway drug doesn't mean that it
is a gateway drug for all who smoke it. I also have smoked pot
(gasp) and have never gone on to harder drugs.

I have read the studies, and the classification details. It is not
cut and dry for either side.

Your right it isn’t cut and dry, I agree 100%... but with that said, you would have to put smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol on par if not more prevalent , dangerous or whatever in every statistical category then getting high. If you do that....then you start having to ask yourself some tough questions....then you would become a Ron Paul supporter.

Any time that you make something illegal that a large amount of people want, you create a criminal group. Be it drugs, gambling or prostitution.

This is one reason not to out law any of them. There may be reasons to make them illegal but just weigh this in.

Also, when you make something illegal on one side of a border or add an exorbatant tariff you will create smugglers.

Bullshit! You think we'd be better off with alcohol back in the black market?
Prohibition of all drugs is bad, not to mention a violation of your ownership over your body, period.

I used to be a believer in legalize it and tax it. But look at what holland is doing now with shutting down the coffee houses because organized crime has became more prevalent. If I am off base please let me know but this is my understanding. So I am not sure if the legalize it and tax it would work the way I would like it to. This goes for all drugs as far as my thoughts for legalize and taxing it.
