IMO he should he makes 2.8 gazillion a year ...and he wants to keep the ball for his kids college funds?? How can Boston keep this guy on there roster next year??? I would give the ball to the fans ..OR donate it for auction to help the Tsumani victims or something

Boston probably wouldn't be up in arms about this, say if Yaz was the guy who somehow caught the last out of a WS Title....But, Doug was a fringe contributor, in fact I think he was probably a little miffed he was used so infrequently in the crunch...

I'll say no, but i can't get over his explanation. "my retirement fund"? This guy will make more money then most of us could ever imagine. Baseball salaries are horrendously too high and some team will pay him well over a million or so a yr to be a role player. He'll play another 10 yrs or so barring any serious injury. He's young. Retirement fund? What a lame answer.

just an FYI I'm not sure if this is obvious to everyone, but Doug was put in the game for defensive purposes becuase he is a gold glover.
