Take a look at Fujitsu PC. You can order directly from their web site or you can buy it at your local CompUSA or BestBuy.

I have a Fujitsu PC, N Series Lifebook, 3.2 GHZ, 80 GB HD, 512 SDRAM, 16.1 Inch Screen, 802.11 G Wireless Card Built-In, 4 - 2.0 USB ports, Firewire Port, 64 MEG Video Card, DVD+RW Drive, all for around $1800.00 after $100.00 mail-in rebate.

Hope this helps.

Circuit City. Look for an "open box" offer. Bought my latest one there ( VAIO ) and saved over $ 500 on price tag.

Blue beat me to it, been seeing some Dell adds for around 700 with rebates that look pretty decent.

Dell's deals at this moment suck. I have been in the market for a laptop last week or two and Dell is currently not price competitive with what they have at Best Buy due to some aggressive rebating going on. I will buy one in a few days, but first want to go to Fry's to see if I can find something better. If you live in an area with a Fry's consider yourself lucky, hard to beat their prices on just about anything they sell.

Forget the sheep pimp retailers and get yourself a Kung Fu system from rayServers. They are definately not for the bargain hunter, but you will never, ever, ever have a security problem, and the customer support offered by rS puts retailers to shame.

agree with newbie. Tigerdirect always has some great deals. Have used them 4-5 times. Always amazed that delivery has been next day for me on regular UPS even though live at least 400 miles away from warehouse

Dante, put a flyer in all of the newspapers you deliver and you may find a great bargain on your route.

My best friend just bught a refurbished Dell laptop. All the software and wireless to boot. He opened it on the kitchen table for the first time and was on the internet with the built in wireless card in 2 minutes. This one has a 15 3/4 inch screen and it is cyrstal clear.

Dante, buddy bought an HP, costing around $1000 with mail in rebate at Circuit City, had it about 8 months, absolutely loves it, great quality

My suggestions to you, take them with a grain of salt

I like Bestbuy but you have to a) not take their stupid extended warranty b) not take an open box c) make sure that everything is sealed

Regarding brands, my last 2 have been vaios, one was a POS the other one is EXCELLENT, sure enough they seem not to use athlon cpus in the notebooks anymore ......wonder why if they are awesome

Try to get either a laptop with either an amd processor (they are hard to find) or a intel mobile (The cpu they use in the centrino deal)

The vaios are quite competitive if you want a monster 17'' monitor screen (that screen size leaves you with only a handful of options anyway)

I don't like dell (hate them for personal reasons) and don't think that compaq/hp are awesome either (have had 2 compaqs and one hp, the screen of the hp looked shitty in less than 1 year)

Toshibas are good deals
