A video showing a black girl and her friend stopping a white man wearing dreadlocks in his hair has been viewed thousands of times online.
The 47-second clip shows a woman physically stopping a white boy with dreadlocked hair and confronting him for 'appropriating her culture'.
SF Weekly has identified the man with the dreadlocks as Cory Goldstein.
Both the woman and Goldstein are San Francisco State University students and the confrontation is believed to have happened on the school's campus.
In the video another male student, who is also black, defends the woman.
After stopping him to say he's appropriating a traditionally black hairstyle, she asks her friend if he has a pair of scissors.
'You're saying I can't have a hair style because of your culture. Why?' asks Goldstein.
'Because it's my culture,' the woman says.
He makes a comment about it 'being Egyptian' and he asks her if she's Egyptian.
She then throws the question back at him asking him if he's Egyptian before asking over and over 'Where is Egypt?'
She then creates a physical barrier to prevent him from walking up a stairwell.
'Yo, stop touching me right now,' Goldstein tells her.
She then pulls him down the stairs saying, 'come here', and tells him not to put his hands on her.

The woman asks her friend if he has scissors to cut Goldstein's dreadlocks off. He then asks her why he's 'not allowed' to have his hair in locks

'I don't need your disrespect,' he says as she finally releases her grip.
He then walks away.
The woman then notices another person filming the video and asks him why he's filming.
'Just for everyone's safety,' he tells her.
She then slams her hand into the camera to cover the lens and the video ends.
The original video has nearly 200,000 views.

She then appears to grab his sleeve or arm and pulls him back down the stairs (left). She tells him not to touch her, but then he pushes past again saying he 'doesn't have time for her disrespect' (right)

The woman tells Goldstein he is 'appropriating' her culture, but she is unable to explain how he is doing so

Goldstein wrote on his Facebook after the incident: 'I just got physically assaulted because I have dreadlocks woe.'
He later posted an update saying he is 'not filing any criminal charges against the girl who harassed me yesterday. I did file a formal campus police report and I decided to let the education system deal with her'.
SFSU released a statement saying they are investigating the confrontation:
'We are aware of the video made of an incident which occurred on campus yesterday afternoon. University police were called to the scene of the incident when it occurred.
'The two individuals involved in the incident are not San Francisco State University employees. Further, no criminal charges have been pressed at this time to the University's knowledge.
'San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others.
'We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures'

Goldstein later wrote on Facebook that he didn't file a criminal report but instead went to the university officials to have them deal with the woman

My favorite part of the Obama era is all the racial healing.

I also love the fact this stupid little girl thinks dreadlocks started with black people.

The lyrics relate the experiences of a white man lost in Jamaica. His first encounter with the locals is of being confronted in the street by an unpleasant dreadlocked man who wants the white man's silver bracelet. The next encounter is when he is beside the pool of his hotel drinking a piña colada; a dark-voiced woman offers him drugs. These experiences were based on real events that happened to Moody Blues vocalist Justin Hayward and Eric Stewart in Barbados which Stewart changed to Jamaica.
The reference to cricket in the first chorus, reggae in the second, and Jamaica in the third, reflects the victim trying to avoid conflict by convincing the antagonist that they share common interests.

So... it would be 100x worse if a white person went up to a black person with fake straight hair... and told them they were going to cut their hair, and since they are black they cant have straight hair.

Imagine that outrage and the press coverage on that!! would be 2093842097489237589023740 time worse in the media.

but, since the harasser is black, its not a big story
