i told everyone harbaugh was crazy for taking Capsuck over smith. smith can still run decent and he doesn't make mistakes. Cap is an overhyped nothing who is the worst thrower in the league. he can't read simple defenses and is a turnover machine against good D's. smith wins both years. NOW CAP has been exposed. turnover machine with no touch whatsoever. maybe they can run the wishbone with Cap next year.

He does appear to be "glassy-eyed" at times but he is a damn good "runner".........busted pass-plays...

he can run. maybe he should be a runner because he is certainly not a QB. my thinking is harbaugh's window is closing, so why not stick with a guy who gets the job done instead of a young player who has to learn the hardest position in football. re-building wasn't the goal.

SF would have never been in SB last year if we had Smith plain and simple..Kap is not the guy tho.. he is horrible at reading defense and throws into coverage all the time.. can do anything about it now

Kaep has less than 2 years of experience and is in a somewhat safe, run-oriented offense. SF has been #1 and #2 team in the NFC his two years.
i'd say cut him some slack and evaluate him when he's had as much time as other SB QBs....which Smith is not and likely never will be

well, when smith got hurt he was having a great season and they were winning. i'm not sure what you are basing that on. SF was a perfect fit for how smith plays QB and he had proven it. the switch was a disaster. the QB in SF doesn't win that many games. smith played well and made few mistakes. if someone could have fielded a punt in the Giant game, smith gets them to another superbowl. Cap is a turnover waiting to happen. he's young. he is in over his head. not the choice for a team of championship caliber.

I'm confused. What 2 Super Bowls did Smith win for SF?

You guys are senseless. S.F. is based on defense, not on QB. Any good defensive team, if they had P. Manning, would be trouble, but they are not a good defensive team, so, as much as I would like to see Manning destroy Sherman, et al. DEFENSE WINS SUPERBOWLS. Seattle 31-17. Gl

Was wondering the same thing. Winning the NFC west is not a championship. Smith is a game manager ... nothing more.

that makes my point. SF needs a game manager at the QB position. one that doesn't turn the ball over. Cap is terrible at this point of his career. it's not time to break in a new QB when you have enough talent to win the super bowl.

i agree, you are confused. the premise of the thread isn't hard to follow.

Nope, still don't see it. Both Kaepernick & Smith have won zero Super Bowls so your "premise" is bogus. If you are even insuinating a conf championship matters in the grand scheme of things then you are clueless as well. But then we knew that already so no biggie.

However, it was time to oust the boring game manager Smith and insert the exciting mobile QB when trying to fill all those luxury boxes next year when Levi's stadium opens.
"On the west side of the stadium, an eight level tower will feature the pressbox, 170 luxury suites and 9,000 club seats."
"At a cost of just over $1 billion, 90% of the stadium is being funded by the sale of stadium assets, a hotel tax, the 49ers and the NFL."

I've become good friends with myself in an alternative universe. As much as I like Alex Smith, my other self said SF did not trade away Alex Smith and they never won any championships.

There is no way SF was going to beat Baltimore with Alex Smith last year.

There isn't a team in the NFL that would take Smith over Kaepernick .... a lot of teams would like to have qb that is as 'terrible' as Kaepernick is right now. The 49ers should let him become a free agent and see if there is any interest amongst those other teams. I don't suppose losing your best offensive lineman and best defensive player in the course of the game had any effect on the outcome. Again, what championships are you referring to with Smith ... little league, high school??

i guess you saying that makes it true. all i know is they could have won this year and last with a real QB. Cap doesn't qualify for that and smith is far better than he is given credit for when he played for the 49ers. they don't need flash at QB. smith just kept winning games without making mistakes and throwing the ball well. Cap is a young project who will never succeed at that position because he can't throw the ball, read defenses and is a turnover machine. but somehow he is better than smith. whatever you say.

Alex Smith has now experienced being on both ends of the spectrum for a draft.

The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft was the “Mr. Irrelevant” of the least relevant draft in football. Yes, Smith went last in the Pro Bowl draft, which was shown on NFL Network from Hawaii on Wednesday.

Smith went to Jerry Rice’s team, but what’s funny is that he wasn’t even picked. Players often went in pairs based on position so that the teams would be equally matched in those terms. Deion Sanders had the option of Nick Foles and Smith for his final pick, and he chose the Philadelphia Eagles QB. That meant Smith went to Rice’s team.

“It was new for me sitting in that green room that long,” Smith told NFL Network’s Chris Rose.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, these great players actually were offended if they weren’t taken in the fantasy draft. Sure, these guys have egos and pride, but the game is meaningless. Smith still admitted to Rose that he did feel somewhat chapped about being the last guy picked.

“Yeah, a little bit,” Smith said when asked if he was chapped.

I’ve been a well known Alex Smith detractor for years, so you know I think his spot as the last player picked was well deserved
