We held a meeting last night to discuss the offshore sports betting industry, and in particular, we focused on what defines a slow pay and what we would all do in cases of slow pays.

For starters, we all agreed that 7 days AFTER a payment by a post up book is supposed to have been received defines a slow pay. And, 3 slow pays within a 90 day period would warrent that particular sports book being removed from the cooperating sites...

Although just a beginning, it was a great one and I'd like to thank all of you who attended...

Id like to see that fine group define next.

"Bad Line"

And under what conditions a bet can be cancelled after the event is over on account of a Bad Line or some other computer/human error.

Then keep the books to that or we report them as Unfair and Downgraded.

Some of the people who attended include Marty Jensen, Fezzik, Wild Bill, FishHead, John Walker, Roberto, Dave Mathews, VooDoo, and Yours Truly...

Although Roberto and John had to be restrained a few times, everyone else behaved well...

It has been a fine, positive and productive meeting. The achievement to define a common standard on slowpays and common actions to protect players from unreliable operations is indeed a milestone for the future of the Industry.

Trytrytry : there will be further meetings to discuss other important issues, such as the one you mention ( disputes management and common rules on such ) in the near future.

These items have been initially discussed last night but their complexity requires dedicated sessions to define common standards.

Why aren't any books participating in these meeting(s)? I know it's for watchdogs but wouldn't this have more of an impact if the "top tier" books had a say in this so they will know what is expected of them and other books.

go2guy,

It is my belief that we should not be allowed to tell a sports book how to run their business, just as they have no say so on how a watchdog site operates its business...

What we did accomplish is to open a line of communication with cooperating websites so that we can be a stronger force in helping gamblers who may be getting the run around from unscrupulous operators, advertisers or not.

There is power in numbers and if we all agree on what actions we will take to protect the player, the offshore world will be a safer place to some degree...

Ken is right on the money. The Watchdogs Alliance, acting on common standards, will definitely produce a positive impact on the Industry, rewarding high standard operators. Players will be the ultimate beneficiaries of this Alliance.

After 7 days a "SLOW PAY", lol. Unless it is an international holiday paying within 48 hours should be the norm, not 7 days!!

One of the reasons that we discussed not putting a shorter time limit like 48 hours is that it would trigger too many slow pay responses which would dilute the importance of monitoring slow pays. It's like crying wolf.

The 7 days seemed like a reasonable figure that would account for any kinds of mistakes that can go on.

It was a strong meeting, and while large-scale or sweeping policies were not created, it opened up a nice debate and at least some concrete guidelines going forward.

I look forward to keeping this discussion going. Anything to make playing offshore safer is a move in the right direction.
