2** Top Play on South Florida

Right Angle Sports
Four plays this week:
Indiana at Iowa (Over 51) - 9:00am Pacific - Game #123-124
Hoosier QB Blake Powers has already set a school record with 18 touchdown passes this season. Maybe even more impressive is that 7 different receivers have caught passes for touchdowns. Standout freshman James Hardy (108.2rypg) at 6-7 is already one of the premier receivers in the nation. Senior WR Jahkeen Gilmore, the top returning receiver on the team from last year, was the clear #2 option early in the season after catching 9 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns in first two games but has not caught a pass since due to a hamstring injury. He has been upgraded to probable to return to action this week and should give an added boost to the pass offense. The Hoosiers are averaging 171 rushing yards per game but with the strength of Iowa's defense being at linebacker, I expect the focus of their attack to be through the air. Indiana is averaging 30.6ppg this season and allowing 22.4ppg. Their two Big 10 conference games have averaged 57 total points. The Indiana defense has only faced one notable offense, that being Wisconsin where they gave up 41 points. Their other four opponents (Illinois, Central Michigan, I-AA Nichols State, and Kentucky) have not accomplished much at all offensively this year.
After shuffling around some players on the offensive line prior to Illinois game two weeks ago, the Iowa offense has really started to click. The line has quickly developed into a solid unit led by coaches son Brian Ferentz at center. The offense has rolled up 1,011 yards in their last two outings. QB Drew Tate, WR Clinton Solomon, and RB Albert Young are all coming off career high games last week at Purdue. They did lose starting WR Ed Hinkel to injury but it is a position they have fairly good depth at. Defensively, Iowa has been somewhat mediocre, allowing 51 more yards per game than last year's average despite having Ball State, Northern Iowa, and Illinois making up half of their schedule. They already rank just 79th in pass efficiency defense and will be without two secondary starters for this game. Senior Antwan Allen, their most experienced defensive back, and sophomore safety Charles Godfrey are both not listed in this week's depth chart due to ankle injuries. The official injury report has them as doubtful. This gives Indiana even more reason to attack through the air.
Iowa is averaging 45.3ppg at home this season and 37ppg in last 29 home games overall dating back to the start of the 2001 season. The last four meetings between these two teams has averaged 62.0ppg. Expect a high scoring affair.
Official Play: Over 51 1 UNIT

UNLV at Air Force (Under 53.5) - 9:00am Pacific - Game #145-146
Much has been made about Air Force having a more balanced offense this season. They threw for over 200 yards in their first two games, both wins, but two interceptions were costly in a one point loss to Wyoming the following week. That was their first loss of the season and they have not won a game since. They were forced to pass due to large second half deficits vs Utah and Colorado State in next two games but had a season low 11 pass attempts vs Navy last week. I get the feeling that Fisher DeBerry wants to be sure that if he gets beat, he will get beat doing what his team does best, and that is run the ball and control time of possession. The time of possession factor is critical right now because the Falcon defense just can not seem to get off the field. They are allowing 46% of third down situations to be converted. Mostly, they have had trouble defending the pass against teams like Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado State. UNLV's 89th ranked scoring offense with a struggling backup QB will be a very welcomed sight. They should put up their best defensive numbers of the season this week.
The Rebels lost starting QB Shane Steichen two games ago. Backup Jerrod Jackson, a JC transfer playing for the first time at the I-A level, has struggled in his first two starts. The offense as a whole has averaged just 285 yards and 15 points in the last two games. Much of the yardage and 14 of the 30 points came late in garbage time during a blowout loss at Wyoming. Jackson is completing 51.5% of his passes and has already thrown 4 interceptions. The solution in last game was to run the ball more and the Rebels did just that keeping it on the ground 73% of the time despite only mild success (3.12ypc). Fortunately for the Rebels their defense turned in by far their best performance of the season holding SDSU to only 140 total yards! UNLV now ranks 9th nationally and 1st in the MWC in run defense. They rank 3rd in the MWC in total defense. Nose guard Fuimaono and end Moore have been standouts on the defensive line. Meanwhile, coaches say LB Beau Bell (14 tackles, 3.5 sacks last week) could be one of the best ever to play the position at the school by the time he is done. He has been slowed by injury most of the season but is now healthy.
The last two meetings between these two schools have averaged just 34 total points per game. The strength of the UNLV defense (defending the run) matches up well with the strength of the Air Force offense. Meanwhile, the struggling UNLV pass offense does not seem capable of taking advantage of Air Force's suspect pass defense. UNLV defensive coordinator Vic Shealy served as defensive back coach at Air Force the past five seasons. He is said to have formulated a specific defense for this game which he introduced to the team during the last week of spring practice. His familiarity of Air Force schemes and personnel will have UNLV well prepared. The 9:00am PST start time is early for both schools and the offenses may take some time to find their rhythm.
Official Play: Under 53.5 1 UNIT

Army (+22.5) at TCU - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #181-182
It will be hard for TCU to stay focused in this spot as a huge favorite against a non-conference opponent. The Horned Frogs are coming off an improbable string of four straight wins over top MWC contenders Utah, at BYU, New Mexico, and at Wyoming. This will be their seventh consecutive game without a BYE week. The Utah & BYU games were both won in overtime with a number of breaks going their way. In TCU's last two wins over New Mexico and Wyoming they have benefited from a +5 turnover ratio in EACH game. TCU now leads the nation in turnover margin! This has been a very lucky season for the Frogs. They did lose starting QB Tye Gunn to injury vs BYU. Backup Jeff Ballard had a solid game first time starting vs New Mexico, although a turnover aided 28-0 start took much of the pressure off him. However, last week he went just 9-for-24 with 2 interceptions and TCU was held to just 257 total yards. If not for SEVEN Wyoming turnovers, TCU would most likely have not been victorious. Starting senior nose tackle Jared Kesler (knee) is doubtful to play this week.
It is no secret that Army is the less talented team here, but they are very well coached by second year man Bobby Ross and should be the more motivated team in this matchup. Army has played better than how they appear on paper. The loss to Baylor looks better now than it did a month ago, they outplayed and should have beaten Iowa State, the loss to UConn looks much worse than it was thanks to a short early touchdown drive after a turnover inside the 10 and not one but two late interception runbacks, and last week's game vs Central Michigan was very tightly contested. Army will get their top RB senior Carlton Jones back in the starting lineup this week. He missed the last two games with a stomach muscle injury.
Any Texas team is always a big opponent for Army. There are 34 players from Texas on Army's roster, 17 are on the travel roster for this game, and 7 are starters. The most notable homecoming will be for starting senior QB Zac Dahman, who is from Fort Worth. It is estimated that 1000 cadets will be attending the game from nearby Fort Hood. There will also be a special halftime ceremony honoring past war veterans. Army led TCU 17-0 at halftime of last year's meeting before losing 21-17. That game should give them a big confidence boost this week. Army is 2-0-1 ATS the last 3 in this series and this year's team is much more competitive than what they have fielded in recent years. Take the points.
Official Play: Army +22.5 1 UNIT

Auburn at Arkansas (Under 47.5) - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #185-186
The strength of the Arkansas offense is their offensive line. They returned 90% of their two deep from last year. The unit has been slowed by some injury issues and starting center Kyle Roper (knee) remains questionable this week but that will not keep the offensive line from being a focal point of the offense. Razorback sophomore QB Robert Johnson at best can be called steady right now. He needs to get help from his teammates in order for the offense to be successful. Johnson went just 11-for-26 with an interception vs Alabama and just 8-for-16 with an interception before getting knocked out of the game vs USC. He will not have it any easier vs this Auburn defense. Johnson's longest pass play of the season has gone for 29 yards and he only has 3 completions of 20 yards or more. Clearly, Arkansas is best served by pounding the ball on the ground and completing short easy screen and swing passes. Defensively, Arkansas brought in high profile defensive coordinator Reggie Herring (had #1 defense at NC State last year). They have 9 returning starters on that side of the ball. After disappointing early in the season they performed very well at Alabama holding the Tide to just 301 total yards. They had a BYE before hosting UL Monroe last week which allowed starting LB Pierre Brown to return to action after missing USC & Alabama games with a knee injury. Despite the time missed, Brown is still 3rd on the team in tackles, proving how active he is. His return gives the defense a big boost.
When Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville said at the start of the season that this was perhaps his most talented team ever at Auburn, he must have been thinking about the defense. They have looked like the real deal so far this season holding opponents to just 9.4ppg. 23 of the 47 points they have given up came vs Georgia Tech in the season opener when the offense repeatedly put the defense in bad position with 5 turnovers. Seventeen different Auburn players have been in on a tackle for loss already this season. MLB Travis Williams, DE Stanley McClover, and DT Tommy Jackson were all 1st team SEC last year. This year junior DE Marquies Gunn has emerged as a force with 3 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, and a whopping 10 QB hurries. Tuberville admits that the offense has not yet clicked on all cylinders this year, and that is to be expected when breaking in a new QB and trying to replace two 1st round NFL running backs. Adding to the concern on offense will be that Auburn has yet to play a single game on the road this season. In fact, 9 of their last 11 regular season games have been at home. It will be the first ever road start for sophomore QB Brandon Cox, and a night game in Fayetteville will be no easy task. Starting center Steven Ross (hip) is expected to be available but will not start.
Both teams head into this game feeling much more confident about their defense than their offense. While Auburn's defense (ranked #7 nationally) is more of a proven product, Arkansas will have the benefit of being fired up by the home crowd and intense first year defensive coordinator. Expect both defenses to have solid outings and keep this game under the total.
