#701 MILWAUKEE @ #702 INDIANA - 7:05 PM
The Milwaukee Bucks aim to end a 16-game road losing streak when they travel to face the short-handed Indiana Pacers on Tuesday. The Bucks, who haven't won away from home since Feb. 27, also look to snap a six-game skid against Indiana. The team they'll face is a shell of the squad that swept four meetings last season with stars Paul George and David West sidelined along with key contributors George Hill and C.J. Watson.
The Pacers, who have lost two straight, are beginning a stretch in which they'll play four games in five days, and they might be without another key player with reserve guard Rodney Stuckey nursing a sore foot. Now they have to contend with a Bucks team that has shown promise despite coming off a 108-97 loss to Washington on Saturday. "They're talented, they're young, and they've got length," Indiana coach Frank Vogel said of Milwaukee. "(Jabari) Parker seems like he's going to be a star, and Jason Kidd proved last year he's a heck of a basketball coach." Both teams have earned their lone victory against Philadelphia.
#703 OKLAHOMA CITY @ #704 TORONTO - 7:35 PM
Oklahoma City’s last visit to Toronto would be hard to match under any circumstance but becomes even harder with reigning MVP Kevin Durant sidelined with a foot injury. The Thunder visit the Raptors on Tuesday and shorthanded Oklahoma City is just a shell of itself with point guard Russell Westbrook (hand) also hurt. The Thunder beat Toronto 119-118 in double-overtime in March as Durant hit a decisive 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left to cap a 51-point performance.
The contest against Oklahoma City begins a stretch in which the Raptors play eight of nine at home. Toronto’s lone loss came against Miami as the Raptors were outrebounded 43-28 during a 107-102 defeat. The Thunder were routed 116-85 at Brooklyn on Monday but did get point guard Reggie Jackson back from an ankle injury and he scored a game-high 23 points.
#705 WASHINGTON @ #706 NEW YORK - 7:35 PM
As Carmelo Anthony goes, so often go the New York Knicks, a pattern playing out in a big way early in the season. Anthony and the Knicks look to ride his recent surge and win their third straight game when they host the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. After scoring 14 points on 5-of-13 shooting in a dismal 104-80 loss to Chicago in the season opener, Anthony has averaged 26.5 points on 53.8 percent shooting in back-to-back victories over Cleveland and Charlotte.
The nine-time All Star became the 40th member of the 20,000-point club and scored the final three points of a 96-93 victory over the Hornets on Sunday. He is one of eight active members of the club, including Wizards swingman Paul Pierce, who had a very different experience his last time out, getting ejected in Washington's home opener, a 108-97 win over Milwaukee on Saturday. Nene led a balanced attach with 22 points for the Wizards, who swept three games from the Knicks last season, including a pair of one-point wins in Madison Square Garden.
#707 HOUSTON @ #708 MIAMI - 7:35 PM
The Miami Heat look to win their fourth game in a row when they host the Houston Rockets in a battle of the unbeatens Tuesday. The Heat took care of business against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday to remain the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference. "We're three games into this, so it could quickly go the other way if guys start to feel comfortable," coach Erik Spoelstra warned. "It's the power of working together that will make us more successful."
James Harden continued his scorching start to the season as he collected 35 points, nine rebounds and five assists in the Rockets' 104-93 win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday. Houston is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign, but faces a stiff test against a Miami team that has won eight of the last nine meetings with the Rockets. "They are playing extremely well right now and they are undefeated as well," Harden said. "It's going to be a tough challenge for us, but I think we're ready."
#709 ORLANDO @ #710 CHICAGO - 8:05 PM
The injury-hampered Chicago Bulls have managed two wins in their first three outings and look to take care of business when the winless Orlando Magic visit Tuesday. All-Star guard Derrick Rose and forward Taj Gibson practiced Monday and expect to return for the Bulls after both missed the 106-105 victory at Minnesota on Saturday with ankle injuries. Orlando is without injured guard Victor Oladipo a few more weeks, but center Nikola Vucevic is off to a strong start with three double-doubles.
Chicago, which was last in the league in scoring and field-goal percentage a season ago, is showing signs of improvement while averaging 106 points and 47.8 percent shooting early on. Jimmy Butler returned from a thumb injury to score a team-high 24 in his season debut Saturday for the Bulls. Magic rookie point guard Elfrid Payton hopes to build off his best game as a pro when he recorded 16 points and nine assists in the 108-95 loss to Toronto on Saturday.
#711 CHARLOTTE @ #712 NEW ORLEANS - 8:05 PM
The former Hornets take on the current Hornets when Charlotte visits New Orleans on Tuesday. The original Charlotte Hornets took their nickname to New Orleans when the team moved in 2002 but finally found a more area-appropriate nickname last season, opening up the “Hornets” nickname to go back to its original city. Both teams feature exciting young rosters, but Charlotte is coming off back-to-back losses after narrowly squeezing out a win in the season opener.
The Pelicans are in the same boat with losses in back-to-back games following an opening win, and Anthony Davis finally looked like something less than the most dominant player in the Western Conference against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday. Davis was limited to 14 points and eight boards in the 93-81 setback and will be challenged again with Bobcats center Al Jefferson holding down the paint Tuesday. Charlotte ranked fourth in the NBA in scoring defense last season and is just as strong in 2014-15 with guard Lance Stephenson in the mix.
#713 CLEVELAND @ #714 PORTLAND - 10:05 PM
The Cleveland Cavaliers looked far more comfortable on the road in gaining their first win and have three games left on the trip to further solidify their level of trust in each other. LeBron James and company will look for a second straight win when they visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday. The Trail Blazers won their opener but have since dropped two straight while being held under 95 points in each setback.
Cavaliers first-year coach David Blatt called a meeting and reportedly got on his team after a lackluster opener at home against New York on Thursday, and the players responded with a little more fight in a 114-108 overtime victory at Chicago on Friday. "He got on us from the time we started our meeting to the time we left,” James told reporters. “And it's great. For a team like us, we need that. I love constructive criticism.” Portland is likely getting some constructive criticism inside the locker room as well after losses at Sacramento and home against Golden State.
#715 PHOENIX @ #716 LA LAKERS - 10:35 PM
The Los Angeles Lakers are the lone remaining winless team in the Western Conference as they host the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. The Lakers are off to their worst start – 0-4 – since moving to Los Angeles in 1960 and are just three losses away from the franchise’s all-time worst start (0-7 in Minneapolis in 1957-58). “Just stay the course,” guard Kobe Bryant told reporters. “We still have a lot of room for improvement, but we’re moving in the right direction.”
The Suns have won five of their last six encounters with the Lakers, including a 119-99 thumping in Phoenix last Wednesday. The Suns went 16-of-32 from 3-point range with Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Morris each knocking down five. Phoenix didn’t fare well in its last game, losing for the first time this season and getting outscored in the paint 66-42 by Utah while suffering a 118-91 defeat.
