Greenpeace Ads to Target Ted Kennedy
[/FONT]
<!--#include virtual="/includes/article_package.shtml" -->
The infamous environmental group Greenpeace is targeting Sen. Ted Kennedy for opposing a wind farm in the Nantucket Sound because it would interfere with the view from his Hyannisport mansion.
Greenpeace is launching a nationwide TV ad campaign against Kennedy, with spots that portray the Massachusetts Democrat as Godzilla.
The Cape Cod Times reports:
"In the 30-second spot, a cartoon Kennedy looms over the water like a Japanese movie monster, pounding wind turbines as they sprout from the water, and barks, 'I might see them from my mansion on the Cape.'"
<!--#include virtual="/includes/banner_275x150.txt" -->Kennedy's nephew, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a leading environmentalist who urges Americans to cut back on energy consumption and who blamed Bush environmental policies for Hurricane Katrina.
But he, too, opposes the wind farm in Nantucket Sound - going so far as to argue that it would cause pollution.
By running the ads, Greenpeace hopes to torpedo an amendment to a Coast Guard bill that would make a proposed Nantucket wind farm vulnerable to state veto. "'We've targeted the Senate because we need leaders to stop this amendment before it can even be voted," Greenpeace spokesgal Kate Smolski told the Times.

Kennedy ain't the only one out there trying to stop the wind farms - you can add many other liberal icons to the list such as John Effin Kerry and Walter Cronkite.

And Joe C is right - they are definitely of the "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality.

Eek:

America is now the land where the Righties will do whatever is needed both in person and in chat rooms to try and shut down all voices that stand against corruption

Buttttt ... great part??? They were able to sell the bullshit Iraq war PATRIOTIC concept as the war didnt effect most Americans .. at $4.50 per gallon Rove and company cant blame Hilliary, Dean or Kerry and the blame is squarely on the man who boasted in 2000 how the President "should jawbone with OPEC to get the price of gas to drop"

he argued that the wind farm would mar a precious seascape, privatize a publicly owned commons, and damage the local economy.

You don't want to privatise it !
Once you hand over a nice area to a bunch of private fúckers they'll trash it.

Give 'em a long lease, but DON'T sell it to them, that keeps your options open.

That is the pure definition of a liberal elitist...the worst possible kind.

people have had their whole live uprooted for highways and byways for the public good...but this gluebag won't budge because of his view...he is lucky his view isn't through crossbar windows.

None of these Vineyard and Nantucket liberals have "boats" - they have "yachts" that have appropriately apt names such as Scaramouche.

Following is an excerpt from CBS4 news:

Cape congressman Bill Delahunt, a staunch wind farm critic, didn't return repeated phone calls Thursday. Some think he's playing a role in the 11th hour amendment. (to stop the wind farm)
And Senator John Kerry, a staunch environmentalist and wind power proponent, also did not respond to requests for comment Thursday. He's believed to be staying clear of the issue out of deference to Senator Ted Kennedy, a wind farm opponent.
If you saw Kennedy's nervous comments Wednesday about the poison pill amendment, you can tell this thing is a major hot potato.
Why? Because despite the near-total opposition of the local political establishment (who are ALL Democrats), polls are showing strong public support for wind power and concern over soaring energy costs. So, stay tuned.

My 2 cents: this appears to smack of hypocrisy. NIMBY is a legitimate concern but also is debatable. After looking at the background, proponents say "fishing impact will be minimal", cables will be buried.

I generally agree with Bobby Jr's environmental stances but not here. I think he's throwing up a red herring when the real issue with them is asthetics. Like I said most of us don't want anything in our backyard. Here I feel the benefits to the many far outweigh those of the few. Plus its a job creator, and the reduction of pollution is significant.
