SEC Clamps Down on Transfers

The SEC, despite the whining of Alabama HC Nick Saban (that is all he does lately), has clamped down on transfer students who are either under investigation, or have been found guilty of sexual misconduct and/or domestic violence. This puts a stop to teams like Alabama signing players like Jonathan Taylor, who was dismissed from Georgia after an arrest for domestic violence.

Saban had said that it was not fair for a team not to be able to give a kid a second chance, but the SEC Chancellors would have none of that and voted in the policy introduced by the University of Georgia. Kujdo's to the SEC for making the correct choice. As far as Saban goes, he is looking more and more like a solid fade. His whining is getting real old.

Here is an interesting fact. Had the BCS still been in business last season, Alabama and Florida State would have met for the NC. Both teams got blown out in the semi's. It makes you wonder just how over-rated and undeserving Alabama and the SEC really is. Just a thought. This could be a real good year to fade the SEC in non-con games, depending on the lines.

It's a good move. Off-field antics in sports have taken on greater importance. Does this start a trend of coaches looking a little more into character before signing a kid?

For the record, FSU was blown out, Alabama wasn't. They lost by 7 and had the ball at the end. When the barometer is 7 straight titles, then yes slightly over-rated. Logic says they wouldn't have gotten to and won all 7 of those given the current format. But they still would have been closer than any other conference and would have probably won a majority of those 7.

The SEC isn't going anywhere. Your dreaming if you think they are. They'll be in the Final Four and in the thick of it every year. If it's not Bama, it will be somebody else in the conference.

Of course. As is, if you has 1 conference out per year, it's most likely to be a rotation with the other 4. The SEC is the last team that's going to miss out, unless those other 4 all have teams that run the table and really impress.

I'm waiting for one of those messed up seasons where the SEC gets two teams into the playoff. They probably would have a few years ago when LSU and Bama played for the title. If it ever happens and two conferences get left out, watch how fast they start talking expansion to 8 teams..

Double the squealing. But how much squealing goes on when the SEC misses out? They yell as loud as anybody.

If we can ever get a season where their conference winner has two losses it will probably happen. But I'm not holding my breath.

If they had the power 4 rather than power 5 you could just take each conference champion and you have your 4 playoff teams, sounds to easy.

That would be alright by me. But can you imagine what it would take to fight your way through a top heavy 16-18 team SEC?

5Dimes came out with the win totals for all 128 teams last week. Judging by their projections, the SEC will have only one team with a losing record (Vanderbilt 3 O/U) with Kentucky on the break line with 6 wins. 5Dimes has the other 12 teams with winning records. I'd say that's rather strong provided 5Dimes have their lines in order. Usually, these opening over/under win totals are near the money.

For the sake of argument, 5Dimes projects the Pac 12 to have 5 teams with losing records. Cal 5, Col 4.5, Ore St 4, Wash 4, Wash St 5. They have Oregon and UCLA at 9.5 and Stanford at 9 as the leaders.

5Dimes has no clue at all. They are just a desperate off shore site trying to come up with cash to pay off their debts. That is why their limits are so low. They cannot afford to take another major hit.

As far as the playoffs are concerned, everyone in here forgets one critical thing. ESPN has the contract, so ESPN calls the shots. Those of you that think that it is an automatic for ESPN to make more money if the playoffs are expanded to 8 teams had better think again. It would be a Logistical nightmare to begin with. What do you do with the losers? Do they go to a bowl and if so, how early do you have to play the first round to determine which losers goes where. That is just the beginning. It is NOT going to happen in the near future, so get used to it. The bottom line is no matter now much of a Big 12 homer you are, the Committee got it right last season and no amount of whining and crying is going to change that. You cannot legitimately argue that the National Champion should have not been allowed to play in the playoffs to begin with. That is just plain stupid.
