The SEC was loaded with top tier college quarterbacks during the 2013 season. (Johnny Manziel, Zack Mettenberger, Aaron Murray, Connor Shaw, James Franklin and AJ McCarron...all who where drafted by the NFL.) Losing these players, many who were three year starters put the conference in a position of breaking in a large number of new starters during 2014.
Well, here we go again with the 2015 season. Other than Mississippi State (Dak Presscott), Missouri (Matty Mauk) and Arkansas (Brandon Allen) most teams will open the season with new starters at the quarterback position. Tennessee and Texas A&M got some encouraging play from young players last year and both will probably open the season under center. Most schools like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Florida will be breaking in new quarterbacks. Some of the new guys will shine and some will have a tough time and possibly be replaced or share playing time. Another factor are the quarterback recruits who will be coming in as freshmen this fall. Here's a list of QB recruits by team:
Alabama: Blake Barnett, 6-4, 200, 4star, from California
Auburn: Tyler Queen, 6-2, 235, 3star, from Georgia
Arkansas: Ty Storey, 6-3, 210, 4star, from Arkansas
LSU: Justin McMillan, 6-1, 180, 2star, from Texas
Ole Miss: Chad Kelly, 6-1, 210, 3star, from Mississippi. Jason Pellerin, 6-4, 210, 3star, from Louisiana
Missouri: Drew Lock, 6-3, 205, 4star, from Missouri
Tennessee: Quinten Dormady, 6-4, 210, 4star, from Texas. Jauan Jennings, 6-3, 180, 4star, from Tennessee. Sheriron Jones, 6-3, 190, 4star, from California.
South Carolina: Lorenzo Nunez, 6-2, 190, 4star, from Georgia
Vanderbilt: Kyle Shurmur, 6-4, 205, 4star, from Pennsylvania
Miss State: Nick Tiano, 6-4, 200, 3star, from Tennessee
Texas A&M: Kyler Murray, 5-11, 170, 4star, from Texas
Georgia: None
Kentucky: None
Florida: None
Most of these new QB recruits will be redshirted but some like South Carolina's Lorenzo Nunez will get a chance to play. The quarterback position will again draw a lot of attention for the best league in the country.
Welcome any comments...........................
