Had Boston and the Under---Was sitting pretty at 5-4 bottom 8th, until SCHILLING took the mound. He was pathetic. How long as the Red Sux going to let him blow saves? His ERA is going to surpass his waist size before long.

yeah i think having schilling at closer is gonna cost boston, they should have him starting, even if he only throws 3 innings and they have someone else come in, he clearly is more comfy starting a game then ending one

With the way he blows leads and the great offense Boston has, Schilling is going to be a 20 game winner this year just from all the blown save opportunities!

Was hoping for a push on the under at 9, and as soon as I saw Schilling come in, I got sick to my stomach. I wasn't around for last year's season, but I wonder if the bullpens were this bad? I have gotten screwed on so many unders this year, and especially ones where the public is 70%+ on the over.

Exactly. He does not have a closers mentality, esp. this late in his career.

Timlin is doing a yeoman's job. Plus he still throws 94+. Why not put him out there to close?

yeah you gotta wonder WTF boston is thinking w timlin having a great yr last yr and this yr and them not being willing to put him in to close....he would be a much more logical choice than schilling.

umm...do you guys actually watch baseball??? Schilling was great tonight. He threw 39 pitches, 29 for strikes. His fastball was up around 92-94, which is about as good as he can expect at this point in his return. He threw that splitter in the dirt ala Roger Clemens, and they were chasing it and looking foolish. The splitter that he struck out Everett on to end the game was filthy and Everett missed it by a mile. The pitch that Crede hammered to tie the game was a mistake up over the plate, but that was just one bad pitch.

And for those who say that Timlin has a better mentality to be a closer, I couldn't disagree more. This is also something that Red Sox TV and radio commentators (i.e., the people that travel with the team and watch them play every day) have stated too. Timlin is perfectly content with his role with the team and doesn't want the pressures or responsibilities of closing.
