another beautiful so cal morning and should be a decent betting card. we had the right idea last night betting against 3 big favorites, price tag, peace accord and pussycat doll, but certainly didn't come through with the right price horses. alas, today begins anew.
r2: grand point. wouldn't take too short a price on this underachieving son of point given, but do like the way he's coming up to this race after improving dramatically behind speedster bilo in his last out. this big, long striding son of point given is bred to route and if he's hung up at 5/2 or better, i'm going to play him to win.
r4: gentle romeo. as i've mentioned before, i absolutely love benchmark as a sire and this last starting colt has a strong series of works leading up to this. don't love to see two consecutive gate moves prior to the start, but if he breaks alertly, a big if, look out.
r5: taxi fleet. this guy cost me the p/6 last time and i won't be fooled again. i will say this, i've been playing against sinister minister every race after his front running, bias-aided freakshow in the bluegrass and have been rewarded. he's finally doing what i think he ought to be for the rest of his career- a sprinter. he spit the bit in a horrifying fashion last time after he looked long gone following ridiculously dawdling fractions. perhaps he shows his stuff at this distance, but i'll take the improving, in-form closer at a better price.
r7: sportie's squeeze. sadler filly has been a bit of an in and outer in her short career and i'm looking for a vastly improved effort here, following a trip that wasn't as troubled as the line indicates.
r9: battle won. how in the hell is this guy 8/1 on the morning line?? i guess the presence of surf cat is inflating everyone's prices, but good grief, that horse is going for the ice cold bruce headley barn, hasn't run in over a year and is unprovenon the cushion. battle is all heart, has run against the best in his career and just keeps showing up every time. if he's 8/1, he won't be for long, b/c i'll pound him to win and place.
good luck.
