KEY STAT: Chile have scored 13 goals in their five Copa America games

EXPERT VERDICT: Both teams have incredible talent at their disposal and although Argentina smashed into the final, Chile are a step up from Paraguay. The hosts are capable of taking the game to their rivals, cheered by a partisan crowd, and key hitman Alexis Sanchez is a big price to open the scoring.

RECOMMENDATION: A Sanchez to score first

KEY STAT: Panama have conceded eight goals in their last six games

EXPERT VERDICT: Both teams have struggled with inconsistency lately but Panama should be encouraged by recent friendly victories over Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica. Haiti drew with China last time out but this looks like a difficult opener for them against a team who could make a real charge in the Gold Cup.

RECOMMENDATION: Panama

KEY STAT: Before facing Guatemala, USA had scored 13 goals in their previous six games

EXPERT VERDICT: The USA could not have had a better preparation for the Gold Cup after seeing off the might of Germany and Holland in build-up friendlies. However, Honduras won't be a pushover after reaching the semi-finals in 2013. Jurgen Klinsmann's side should come out on top but it could prove a tight affair.

RECOMMENDATION: USA to win 2-1

KEY STAT: Jamaica have conceded only four goals in their last eight games

EXPERT VERDICT: Costa Rica were the surprise team of the 2014 World Cup and are the highest-ranked team at the Gold Cup after reaching the quarter-finals in Brazil. Expect them to come out on top of this one, although it won't be easy. Jamaica don't concede many goals as they showed at the Copa America.

RECOMMENDATION: Costa Rica to win 1-0

KEY STAT: El Salvador have kept just two clean sheets in their last 11 games

EXPERT VERDICT: Canada are bound to be confident they can do well at the Gold Cup having lost just one of their last seven matches and an opener against a poor El Salvador side looks the perfect first game. Tosaint Ricketts hit two goals in their 4-0 win over Dominica and could set them on their way to three points.

RECOMMENDATION: T Ricketts first scorer

KEY STAT: Trinidad have failed to score in each of their last five matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Guatemala have suffered heavy recent defeats to Mexico and Uruguay but they should have little to fear from a clash with Trinidad & Tobago. Their opponents have struggled in attack lately and two clean sheets in World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda show Guatemala are capable of keeping them out.

RECOMMENDATION: Guatemala

Game of the Day: Lions at RedBlacks

B.C. Lions at Ottawa RedBlacks (+3, 46.5)

The Ottawa Redblacks look to win consecutive games for the first time in franchise history when they host the BC Lions on Saturday. The Redblacks opened the season with an impressive 20-16 road victory over the Alouettes and hope to use that momentum to beat the Lions for the first time after dropping both meetings last year.
“It’s a new game, a new week and we have to be at our best on Saturday,” Ottawa coach Rick Campbell told reporters. “This is a big challenge for us and we need to focus 100 percent.” BC is eager to get back on the field for its season opener and erase the memories of last year’s East semifinal after giving up 50 points in the loss to the Alouettes. New head coach Jeff Tedford has been tasked with leading the Lions back among the CFL elite after seeing their record get progressively worse in the last two years. Quarterback Travis Lulay is ready to go after missing most of the 2014 campaign with a shoulder injury and should benefit from the guidance of noted QB guru Tedford to give the offence, which finished fifth in the CFL with 330 yards per game, a much-needed boost.

TV: 6 p.m. ET, TSN, ESPN2

LINE HISTORY: Oddsmakers opened the RedBlacks +3. The total opened at 46 and is up a half-point.

INJURY REPORT:
Lions – DB Steven Clarke (Out, undisclosed), G Cody Husband (Out, undisclosed), C Matthew Norman (Out, undisclosed).

RedBlacks – QB Brock Jensen (Questionable, undisclosed), WR Khalil Paden (Questionable, undisclosed), WR Marcus Henry (Questionable, undisclosed), DB Hugo Lopez (Questionable, undisclosed), DB Forrest Hightower( Qustionable, undisclosed), DL Andrew Marshall (Questionable, undisclosed).

WHAT CAPPERS SAY: “The Ottawa Redblacks host the B.C. Lions in Week 2, coming off an upset win on the road over Montreal in their season opener. The Redblacks knocked out two Alouettes quarterbacks in that game, and the last thing the Lions need is for anything to happen to Travis Lulay. This will be the Lions first game of the season, and keeping Lulay healthy will be high on their priority list.” Will Rogers.

ABOUT THE LIONS (2014: 9-9 SU 8-9-1 ATS, 5-12-1 O/U): Running back Andrew Harris, who led the team in rushing before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in late September, is healthy and eager to play his part in the new high-powered offence. “You can already get excited about the things we’re going to do,” Harris told reporters. “I can’t wait to see how it’s going to play out in game situations.” BC signed former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie and hopes he can fill the void left by big-play slotback Ernest Jackson, who bolted for Ottawa in the offseason.

ABOUT THE REDBLACKS (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS, 0-1 O/U): Henry Burris shook off three interceptions in the first half to finish 23-of-36 for 263 yards and a touchdown against the Alouettes. Jackson led all wide receivers with seven catches for 74 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter of his Ottawa debut. Starting safety Jermaine Robinson injured his wrist in Week 1 and will be out for at least a week and will be replaced by Jacques Washington, while middle linebacker Travis Brown is listed as day-to-day after getting injured in Montreal.

TRENDS:
* Lions are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games in Week 2.
* RedBlacks are 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games.
* Under is 4-1-1 in RedBlacks last six games overall.

CONSENSUS: Fifty-seven percent of bettors are backing the visiting Lions.

Chile, Argentina meet in Final Saturday
by Ethan Back

ARGENTINA vs. CHILE
Copa América

”FINAL”
Kick-off: Saturday, 4:00 p.m. ET

Line: Chile +260, Argentina +105, Tie +240, Total: 2.5

Chile takes on Argentina in what should be an exciting Copa América Final on Saturday.
Chile has managed to make the Copa América Final on home soil, and will look to finally win its first-ever title in the South American tournament. Including the knockout stage, Chile has four wins and one draw, and has looked like the most dangerous team for the majority of the tournament. Eduardo Vargas has been in excellent form, and his two goals in the semi-finals against Peru brought his tally to four, making him the top scorer at the Copa América thus far. Alexis Sánchez has only scored once, but he has still looked menacing in Chile’s attack, and Jorge Valdivia has been world class in the attacking midfield. go to askthebookie. At the back, goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has been relatively untested coming into the Final, but that will more than likely change against Argentina. Gary Medel, despite an unfortunate own goal in the semi-finals, has been solid, but his new partner in the center of defense, José Rojas, looked shaky as Gonzalo Jara’s replacement. A mistake or two by Rojas could prove costly for the Chileans’ hopes. Argentina’s forwards will not take mercy on the inexperienced defender, and Lionel Messi, Sergio Agüero, and Angel Di María will look to continue their country’s ruthless attacking ways against Chile. Coming off of a stunning 6-1 win over Paraguay in the semi-finals, Argentina’s confidence will be flying high coming into this match. Di María had a brace and Agüero found the back of the net once, and Messi had a phenomenal all-around display, highlighted by his three assists. Given both teams’ offensive abilities, this game should see over 2.5 goals scored. And while Argentina has yet to face a team as dynamic as Chile, Messi and his teammates should be able to prevail by a score of 3-1.

MLB Betting Cheat Sheet: Too Close for Comfort in the AL East
by Jesse Schule

Here’s a comprehensive look at betting notes for the weekend major-league schedule:
Too Close for Comfort in the AL East

Only one game separates the Yankees, Orioles, Blue Jays and Rays in the American League East. The Yankees host the Rays in a three game set in the Bronx this weekend, and the Rays have lost eight of 10 heading in Thursday’s series finale versus Cleveland. Tampa will get a crack at some struggling Yankees starters though, as Masahiro Tanaka, C.C. Sabathia and Michael Pineda are all coming off rough outings.

Hamilton Faces Former Team
The Angels organization gave Josh Hamilton a five year $125 million dollar contract, and he gave them very little in return. Hamilton is back home in Texas, and he was 2-for-4 in his first game off the DL against the Orioles on Tuesday. The Rangers will host the Angels in a three game series in Arlington over the weekend, and he’ll have a chance to add insult to injury against his former team.

Detroit Deadly in Day Games
The Tigers are leading the league, batting .301 with 185 runs scored in day games this season. They will be hosting the Blue Jays in a three game series at Comerica Park this weekend, with matinees on both Saturday and Sunday. The Blue Jays are the highest scoring team in the majors, so we could see some high scoring games here in Detroit.

Pitching Notes
*Dodgers ace Clayton Kerhsaw hasn’t been himself this season, and he’s coming off three straight defeats. The southpaw might be able to get back on track at home against the Mets in a nationally televised game on Friday night. The Mets rank dead last in the major leagues in runs scored on the road, and they own a team batting average of .226 away from Citi Field.

*The Yankees will send C.C. Sabathia to the mound in the series finale versus Tampa Bay on Sunday, and the veteran left-hander has really struggled in the Bronx this year. He was rocked for six runs on eight hits over just 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies in his last start at Yankee Stadium. go to askthebookie. Sabathia is 1-3 with an 8.49 ERA in his six home starts this season. He’s also 3-7 with a 5.45 ERA in his last 12 starts versus Tampa.

Hitting Notes
*Prince Fielder has fallen behind Jason Kipnis and Miguel Cabrera in the American League batting race, but the Texas slugger might be able to get back on top after a home series versus the Angels over the weekend. Fielder is batting .402 against the Halos in his career, and he’s hitting .362 at home in Texas.

*Steven Matz was 3-for-3 with four RBIs in his major league debut, and we could see the 24 year old back in action on Sunday against the Dodgers. Matz is a left-handed pitcher for the Mets, and he’s scheduled to make his second start opposite Mike Bolsinger on Sunday afternoon at Chavez Ravine.

Totals Streak
Detroit Tigers (13-0 O/U): The Tigers have been involved in 13 straight high scoring games, and it has been a combination of hot hitting, poor defense and below average pitching. Hosting the highest scoring team in the major leagues (Toronto) this weekend, it’s likely that Detroit’s trend of high scoring games will continue.

Injury Notes
*Oakland’s ace Sonny Gray was hospitalized with a stomach illness, forcing him to miss his last start against the Rockies. He’s scheduled to start Sunday’s game against Seattle, but it’s still unclear if he will be able to shake off whatever bug has been bothering him in time to face the Mariners.

*The Astros will be without slugger George Springer for at least the next six weeks, as he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday’s win over Kansas City, injuring his wrist. The Astros called up Alex Presley from Triple-A Fresno to take Springer’s roster spot.

Wimbledon: Serena Williams survives; Djokovic dominates

Serena Williams dodged a major upset on Friday, surviving a pulsating three-set match with England's Heather Watson to advance to the fourth round at Wimbledon.

Defending men's champion Novak Djokovic advanced to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the 25th consecutive time in easier fashion, with 15 service aces and 38 winners to beat Bernad Tomic 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. French Open champion Stan Wawrinka also breezed to a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win over Fernando Verdasco.

"I served well. It's not easy to win against Bernard in straight sets. I am pleased with the way I'm playing, I'm very close to where I want to be," Djokovic said.

Williams was down two breaks in the third set before she staged an impressive rally against the young Watson, winning four straight games and then producing two late breaks to salvage the victory. She'll next face sister Venus Williams for the sixth time at Wimbledon and the 26th time in their careers. Serena has a 14-11 record in head-to-head meetings and is 3-2 at Wimbledon.

Venus had an easier time in the third round, defeating Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 6-2. The sisters will play Monday.

Maria Sharapova also advanced at the All England Club, dispatching Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4, 6-3.

"There is only one champion in the end and the one who raises their game is the champion," said Sharapova, who won the ladies singles in 2004.

There was one upset on the men's side. Nick Kyrgios upended No. 7 Milos Raonic 5-7, 7-5, 7-6, 6-3.

American John Isner's match against No. 9 Marin Cilic was suspended because of darkness in the fifth set with the score tied 10-10.

Serena opens as big fave versus big sis Venus
Andrew Avery

Following Serena Williams successfully escaping a surprisingly competitive match against Heather Watson at Wimbledon Friday afternoon, A sportsbook has opened Serena as the -600 fave over older sister Venus Williams (+400) in Round 4.

The match, scheduled for July 6, will be the 28th time they've met up. Serena holds the 14-11 edge (each has a walk over).

On the grass of Wimbledon, Serena has a 3-2 edge in five matches, the most recent of which was the 2009 final.

Chestnut the huge fave in Hot Dog eating contest
Andrew Avery

Joey Chestnut, the Bill Russell of competitive eating, is a massive favorite at -1050 to win the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4. The field is coming in at +550 heading into the annual event.

Chestnut has won eight-consecutive July 4 events and polished off 61 wieners in 10 minutes to win the competition one year ago. Matt Stonie finished second with 56 hot dogs eaten last year.

Sportsbooks have Chestnut to eat OVER 66 dogs at +100 (UNDER -130). Chestnut downed 68 dogs in 2012 and 69 dogs in 2013.

Hot Dog champ Chestnut worried about Stonie
Andrew Avery

Eight-time Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest champion Joey Chestnut has expressed concern in regards to rival Matt Stonie, according to the New York Daily News.

Chestnut puts his title on the line Saturday at the annual event but has been beaten by Stonie in non-wiener events throughout the course of the competitive eating campaign - which is apparently a thing.

But the champ did take the opportunity to fire shots.

"Yeah I'm worried about him - the kid can eat," Chestnut told the Daily News. "He's like a really young, skinny, feminine version of me."

Chestnut a massive fave in hot dog eating contest
Stephen Campbell

Who says July is a slow sports month? As the United States prepares for its Fourth of July celebrations, the eyes of the sports world will be solely focused on the 2015 edition of the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Joey Chestnut, the Bill Russell of competitive eating, is a massive -769 favorite to claim the title. Chestnut has won eight-consecutive July 4 events and polished off 61 wieners in 10 minutes to win the competition one year ago. Matt Stonie finished second with 56 hot dogs eaten last year.

Twenty-eight percent is on the hot dog heavyweight to win outright. There's much more value if you think he's going to roll over the competition, however, as Chestnut -8.5 versus the field is currently priced at +140.
