Mohawk: Saturday 6/7 Analysis

DRF HARNESS

Race 4: $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: JK ENDOFANERA

Spot Play: MAJOR HOTTIE

Race 1

(3) NAT A VIRGIN finally put her game face on last week with a convincing win for trainer Jones & driver Zeron. Her ear plugs were still intact as she brushed home with a 26 3/5 final quarter. (4) BEACH GAL was too far back last week, but she overcome the obstacle with a 26 4/5 final frame to get up in the final strides. (6) UFFIZI HANOVER banked $360K last season, but hasn’t hit the board in each of her two starts this year. I believe it’s just a matter of time before she rounds into form for top trainer Takter and driver Miller.

Race 2

(5) PRECOCIOUS BEAUTY has bounced back very well this season considering her extremely tough trip in the Breeders Crown to end her freshman campaign. (6) LADY SHADOW is the other McNair entry and was a convincing winner last week in the final of the SBOA. (4) MAJOR DANCER responded very well in her trio of starts this season, but was a beaten favorite last week with a great trip by Drury.

Race 3

(5) JK ENDOFANERA put forth a gritty effort last week to fend off a late challenge from Luck Be Withyou, who pulled the pocket and attacked at three-quarters. (3) WESTERN VINTAGE was a beaten favorite in his most recent start. Two back, in his sophomore debut, he put forth a remarkable effort given he was parked every step of the way en route to victory in sub-1:50. (2) BEAT THE DRUM has only hit the board once from three starts this season, but his effort last start at The Meadowlands was terrific.

Race 4

(4) LIGHTS GO OUT has won five of 11 starts this season and was a beaten favorite last week in this class. She closed well, but was too far back turning for home. (1) REQUEST FOR PAROLE draws a favorable post once again, comes out of the Johnson barn and certainly has the speed. (2) ITS NO SECRET has a patented late kick and has been finishing off her miles very strongly in each of her last three starts.

Race 5

(7) ALWAYS B MIKI was overdue for a victory until he got the job done last week in his division of the Somebeachsomewhere. (4) LETS DRINK ON IT faced his toughest test of the season last week and was a beaten favorite. You can expect the fractions to be more honest this week for young driver Smith, who will team up with a veteran trainer. (1) MCWICKED comes from the Coleman barn, which can’t be overlooked. He draws well once again, gets Miller in the bike and paced home very strong to finish second last start in the Somebeachsomehwere.

Race 6

(6) MICHAELS POWER hasn’t been at his best yet this season, but he comes out of the Coleman barn, has excellent gate speed and has over $1.6 million of back class to his credit. (1) SING FOR ME GEORGE hopefully won’t be too far back with a post one start. He’s paced home in sub-:27 fashion in each of his last four starts, but has had too far to come. (3) COUGAR HALL drops in class and won at this level just three starts back. He also draws inside and had too far to come last week.

Race 7

(6) MODERN LEGEND gets a major driver improvement in here with Tetrick listed to drive. (2) ELLIS PARK was spectacular in his season debut to finish third with a 25 3/5 final quarter last week. He was charted 20 lengths off at the start and was beaten less than two for the win. (3) LUCAN HANOVER drops in class and gets post relief. He faces older horses for the first time in his career this season and it is taking him a few starts to adapt.

Race 8

(1) ANNDROVETTE will be the top choice in here for many handicappers with her recent winning effort in the Betsy Ross against the top pacing mares in the sport. (2) JERSEYLICIOUS has adapted well facing older mares as a four-year-old and hasn’t missed the board in each of her four starts this season. (4) CHARISMA HANOVER has been much better in her last two starts for trainer Burke.

Race 9

(1) HES WATCHING was spectacular last week with a bounce back effort from his disappointment in the Art Rooney. He silenced all critics with an open length score for Menary and Jamieson in 1:49 3/5. (3) TELLITLIKEITIS might be the ‘dark horse’ in this year’s Cup after his sizzling effort in his lone start of the season. (2) LUCK BE WITHYOU received an aggressive steer last week from driver Pierce and the son of Western Ideal responded with a second-place finish while dropping three seconds off his qualifying time.

Race 10

(5) THEPANINSULA HOTEL draws better this week and is overdue for a victory. (3) DONAU comes out of the Auciello barn and performed well last week despite tiring down the lane. (8) UP THE CREDIT closed very strong last week from a post 10 start. He was charted 18 lengths back at the opening quarter and was beaten four lengths on the end.

Race 11

(3) SOMWHEROVRARAINBOW is arguably the top older pacing mare this season with her three straight wins and impressive victory in the Bluechip Matchmaker. (4) MONKEY ON MY WHEEL might offer a price in this event. She’s fresh off a victory, comes out of the Coleman barn and is ready to tackle the best free-for-all mares. (2) ROCKLAMATION closed well in her latest to finish second in the Betsy Ross.

Race 12

(4) RAYS SAN drops in class, which played a key factor in my selection process. (2) GENESEE will get a lot of attention in here as he’s been racing very consistently at this level for many weeks. (3) RAVE ON has won three of his last five starts and moves back onto this circuit. He has a terrific overall record this season and will need to step up his game in this contest.

Race 13

(9) MAJOR HOTTIE likely will provide a price in the finale. He was game at the wire in his latest, only beaten by a neck for the win. (4) BETTOR THAN YOU starts from a good post once again and has hit the board in each of his last two starts. (10) CHAMPAIGN PHIL was an impressive winner last week in a new career best for MacDonald & Auciello.

Meadowlands: Saturday 6/7 Analysis
By Derick Giwner
DRF HARNESS

Race 1 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 41 - 131 / $264.20 BEST BETS: 4 - 10 / $15.60

Best Bet: TELL US MORE (2nd)

Spot Play: ALEX BULLVILLE (8th)

Race 1

(4) FRANKANDJOANNE has early speed and should be tight after facing some faster foes. (5) SWEET ROCK finally broke into the win column last week. He moves from NW1 to NW2, but doesn’t face a much better group. (2) ROCKSTAR STRIDE should get a piece.]

Race 2

(2) TELL US MORE was part of a fast early pace and still raced very well to be third. He should pick up his first win of the year on Saturday. (4) WILLY MUCHA has some early zip in his arsenal and seems likely to use it. With any reasonable trip he’ll be involved. (9) YANOYANOMENOW is off a good effort and should at least get into the exotics.

Race 3

(4) STORMIN RUSTLER has won two of his last three starts in the C-2 condition and tends to race well in spots like this where he can take charge. (3) ANDREW LUCK is another getting class relief that has a big chance. (5) HARE CRAFT went off at 3-5 and finished second in this class last time. This is a tougher spot, though. (7) HILLBILLY & (8) I’M BANSKY are both clean trip contenders.

Race 4

(1) DUEL IN THE SUN hasn’t been able to do better than second thus far in 2014, but finds the perfect spot to get off the schneid. (4) UP UP AND OUT has a win over the track and can certainly make some noise versus this field. (3) REFLECTION OF BLUE stays at the same level but takes on a softer group this week.

Race 5

(8) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE appears to be facing similar competition this week but actually finds a much easier bunch, similar to the foes he faced two starts back. (7) JOHNS POLYVIEW was a good second last time and a must use on every ticket against this dull group. (1) PEMBROKE DEWEY should be aggressive from the pylons; chance.

Race 6

(7) URGENT ACTION took on a more accomplished bunch last week and still held his own. I’m expecting more this week. (4) DRAGON LORE & (5) MY TEMUDJIN N are both stepping up the class ladder in fine form and either could take home the top prize. (2) TEXICAN N has some class and would be no shock.

Race 7

(10) ONTARIO SUCCESS flashed early speed from out of nowhere and marched down the road last time. The outside post presents some issues, but there is enough inside speed signed on for him to float away from the gate and wait for the race to come to him. (6) MY LAST CHANCE closed well last time and is clearly in form. If they go too fast on the engine, he can pick up the pieces at a huge price. (4) MIGHTY YOUNG JOE, (3) DAVID’S DREAM & (5) FREDDY DAY HANOVER are sharp early speed players that could be very dangerous if allowed to set a reasonable clip.

[DRF HARNESS: Watch the best older trotters in the Charlie Hill Memorial and the full Scioto Saturday card on DRF!]

Race 8

(2) ALEX BULLVILLE faces a mostly formless group of C-1 pacers and should take command. (1) SIR CARY’S Z TAM sucked along last time but finds an easier spot tonight. (4) CITY PIE steps up off a convincing victory.

Race 9

(2) A PLACE IN HISTORY hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire this year, but draws well against a lackluster group and should have a chance to take charge. (3) BOBJACKS ANGLE A does his best work in bad fields where he can lay in the weeds and strike late. (7) WILLIE BOOTS wasn’t bad last week and gets an aggressive driver in Dube on Saturday.

Race 10

(1) CAUTION SIGNS gets an inside post once again and should be firing out from the pylons. (2) SIR MELO’S Z TAM closed well last time and should be closer to the action this week. (8) SPENDER HANOVER raced well when placed on the engine most recently.

Race 11

(6) OLDE TIME HOCKEY appears to be off form but knows how to step up in spots like this; upset chance. (1) GARNET RIVER A comes from Down Under with a hefty bankroll and qualified well enough. (3) HILARIOUS HALO took advantage of a hot pace to set a lifetime mark last Saturday; threat.

Race 12

(2) ANDWIN HANOVER has a good post and early speed to utilize. (3) GRAB YOUR KEYS comes off a nice win and could be the one to beat in here. (4) HIGHLAND TERRIFIC drops back down; dangerous.

Race 13

(2) PASS THE DECK has been racing evenly of late in what will be his final year on the track. This looks like the perfect spot to score one final Meadowlands win. (6) BOLDER hasn’t been racing that well but perhaps the soft field and addition of Dube can make a difference. (4) VISA VIPER is as good as any of the rest.

KEY STAT: Honduras have conceded 16 goals in their last six matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Honduras have been comfortably beaten by Turkey and Israel in their last two outings and their struggles look set to continue as they step up in class. England could only draw against Ecuador but Roy Hodgson’s players look motivated, and they can achieve a confidence-boosting victory against the World Cup rank outsiders.

RECOMMENDATION: England 2-0

KEY STAT: USA have won 14 of their last 15 home fixtures

EXPERT VERDICT: Nigeria have failed to impress in two recent draws with Scotland and Greece and the Super Eagles look there for the taking against a USA side who rate a formidable proposition when playing at home. Jurgen Klinsmann’s men had a good win over Turkey last time out and can follow up by seeing off a distinctly average Nigeria.

KEY STAT: France have kept five clean sheets in their last seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Jamaica haven’t played badly on their European tour, managing a draw against Egypt after narrow defeats to Serbia and Switzerland. However, they face a different test entirely against improving France and the Reggae Boyz's main hope will be to keep the score respectable.

RECOMMENDATION: France 3-0

KEY STAT: Helder Postiga scored six goals for Portugal in World Cup qualifying

EXPERT VERDICT: Ireland did well to hold Italy in a recent friendly, but they are a limited side and Portugal should possess too much firepower for them. Paulo Bento’s men will be looking to get their eye in before a tough first World Cup match against Germany, so a professional performance looks likely.

Monmouth - Race #2 - Post: 1:22pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $17,000 Class Rating: 82

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 DUKES ALLEY (ML=3/1)
#6 MILITARY PIKE (ML=8/1)

DUKES ALLEY - McCarthy and Ness have had great success together over the last twelve months. I like to wager on this handicapping angle, a horse coming back off a nice outing within the last 30 days. MILITARY PIKE - Personally, I wouldn't worry about where he finished in his last race (fifth). Should improve right here in this race, with some pretty good odds. Entered last at Penn National in a race with an Equibase class figure of 87. Dropping significantly in class figure this time out puts him in a solid position in this race. The improved Equibase speed figures over the last 3 races is solid. Abrams drops him in this affair in great shape.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BIG DEALER (ML=2/1), #4 CROWN THE CHIEF (ML=4/1), #2 FORALLTHEGLORY (ML=6/1),

BIG DEALER - This gelding finished outside the top 3 on October 18th and wasn't close last out either. CROWN THE CHIEF - This horse likes to be on the board, but doesn't usually finish on top. Don't put in the top spot. This entrant ran a run-of-the-mill rating last race out. He shouldn't run better and will probably suffer defeat today running that fig. FORALLTHEGLORY - Difficult to bet on this questionable contender today. Make him show you something in a sprint race before you wager on him in a race of 5 1/2 furlongs.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - MILITARY PIKE - This gelding has the greatest last speed figure at Penn National. Must be considered in your gambling.

Suffolk Downs - Race #6 - Post: 4:10pm - Allowance - 8.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $19,000 Class Rating: 86

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#1 HERE WE GO JOE (ML=6/1)
#7 ODLUM (ML=9/5)
#6 IRISH EMPEROR (ML=5/2)

HERE WE GO JOE - This rider/conditioner duo has been producing a very beneficial ROI, right at +47. Jockey jumped on this gelding's back for the first time on May 24th. Should 'know' the horse even better this time. This gelding is in superb physical condition right now. Ended up first in the last race and comes back rapidly. ODLUM - Wired the field on May 28th at Suffolk Downs. Quite possible he can do it again right here. Multiple wins in this horse's life, all at Suffolk Downs. Could add another win in this race. Have to make this gelding a strong challenger; he comes off a good outing on May 28th. Made up a ton of ground running 6 furlongs in the last race. Should do well on the stretch-out today. IRISH EMPEROR - Reyes rode this thoroughbred for the initial time in the last race and comes right back this time. Have to make this horse a solid contender; he comes off a solid contest on May 21st.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 UPROARIOUS GEORGE (ML=4/1), #2 BLUE DANUBE WALTZ (ML=8/1),

UPROARIOUS GEORGE - Speed figures tell a narrative of lessening physical condition. This mount hasn't been close at the finish line of late. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this clash when I look at the Equibase class figure of today's contest. Mark this mount as a questionable contender. BLUE DANUBE WALTZ - This entrant just hasn't looked sharp of late. This horse ran a quite unimpressive speed fig in the last race. He shouldn't improve and will probably get beat in today's race running that figure.

# 6 SWEET TERI K 9/5

# 5 ROB AND JON'S GIRL 3/1

# 3 MAMA'S FIRECRACKER 7/2

SWEET TERI K has a very good shot to take this race. This filly has posted some nice finish positions in her last couple of starts. Earnings per start in dirt route races is formidable for this animal. Strong average Equibase Speed Figures in dirt route races make this racer a key contender. ROB AND JON'S GIRL - With a strong jock who has won at a formidable 19 percent clip over the last 30 days. This has to be one of the top choices. Posted a very good speed figure last time out. MAMA'S FIRECRACKER - She looks very good in this slot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the midpoint. Should be carefully examined - I like the numbers from the last competition.

#2 BIG TIRE

Historically speaking, this race is aptly named, as Affirmed, on Belmont Stakes Day in 1978, became the last winner of Thoroughbred Racing's elusive Triple Crown ... by now .. we will know if California Chrome will become the latest winner of this difficult feat/prize! In this year's edition ... #6 FRIENDSWITH K MILL has produced "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in five straight starts, hitting the board in four, including a pair of "POWER RUN WINS" embedded in this recent streak of racing consistency. Jockey Tyler Baze, and Trainer Doug O' Neill send him "postward" for the "Saturday Feature" ... they've hit the board with an even 50% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #7 FOREVER JUANITO, a 6-1 shot, has hit the board in each of his four career starts to date, including "POWER RUN WINS" in both his last start, as well as in his 3rd race back.

My selection for this race is DON PERICO. Has been racing very well and has among the most competitive speed in the race for today's distance. With Black getting the mount, watch out for this horse. Earned a strong Equibase speed fig last time out. COUNTRY SAINT - Had one of the strongest speed figures of this group in his last race. P R'S ORPHAN - Has performed solidly recently in sprint races, posting a nifty 77 avg speed figure. Has been racing strongly in races of this distance, going 4 for 15 under similar conditions.

#5 I'M A PAL (ML=6/1)

I'M A PAL - I like to bet on this handicapping angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a solid race within the last thirty days. This filly's last rating is high enough to prove victorious here, I'll wager on her right back today. Taking a trip down the class scale; has the class ability to make her presence felt. This filly is number one in earnings per start. Check out this thoroughbred in the saddling enclosure. This horse has increased her Equibase speed figures in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is important to note.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SMOOTH LOOKER (ML=2/1), #2 FIDDLERS ZAPPIE (ML=3/1), #1 DESERT RECON (ML=4/1),

SMOOTH LOOKER - Hasn't finished in the money in any short distance events recently. Not likely to see her doing it today either. This horse hasn't shown much in the last two affairs. FIDDLERS ZAPPIE - A bit of a less than stellar effort when this filly finished fourth. This entrant ran a most unsatisfactory speed fig in the last race. She shouldn't run better and will likely get beat today running that figure. DESERT RECON - Can't wager on this runner in today's sprint of 5 furlongs. Hasn't even hit the board in a sprint affair of late. This mare is always in the money, but just doesn't finish on top. Tough to play her on the front end. No triumphs for this horse at Parx Racing.

# 1 DOUBLESHOTASCOTCH 4/1

# 4 EYES ONLY FOR YOU 6/1

# 6 WARRAWEE NONSUCH 9/2

Really keen on the likelihood of DOUBLESHOTASCOTCH taking down the winner's share in this race. The handicapping team gives this standardbred a competitive chance to take this race, class ratings are tops in the grouping. Hands down the best post at Saratoga Harness is the 1. The win stat is really good. EYES ONLY FOR YOU - This horse has a nose for the wire, just look at his better than average win rate. Have to think about a horse coming out of the Saratoga Harness 4 hole. The win stat is excellent, way above normal. WARRAWEE NONSUCH - Cannot put a finger on it, but support this gelding for a wager. He has been racing well and the TrackMaster Speed Ratings are among the finest in the pack.
