Mohawk: Saturday 6/14 Analysis
By Greg Gangle
DRF HARNESS

Race 4 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $100,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: TRIXTON (4th)

Spot Play: CHAMPAGNE PHIL(11th)

Race 1

(5) SUMMONS has won two straight and looks like he's capable of the class jump onto this circuit. (6) BUTTON FLY has been a threat at this level for many weeks for trainer Auciello. (9) WESTERN MAJESTY was claimed three starts back by owner/trainer Tackoor and raced at his best last week in this class.

Race 2

(5) BESTOFBEST HANOVER returned to the Moreau barn last week and immediately found the winners circle. He draws in the middle of the gate once again and remains at the same level. (7) IN COMMANDO went a good mile last week considering he finished sixth, beaten less than three lengths for the win. (1) THUNDER STEELER went a big mile last week for trainer Alagna to win by eight lengths in a 1:49.2 career best.

Race 3

(6) MONKEY ON MY WHEEL comes out of the Roses Are Red and faces an easier field. (7) VOELZ HANOVER has over $1.5 million of back class in her favour and has hit the board in three of her last four starts in this class since her return. (1) MARLEE B overcame post 10 last week en route to victory for driver Gingras and trainer Fellows.

Race 4 – Goodtimes Final

(5) TRIXTON looks like he's in a league of his own coming into this rich final. (4) FLYHAWK EL DURADO moved into the Gillis barn last week and now has back-to-back victories to his credit. (10) HARPER BLUE CHIP qualified very strong in both outings and raced very well for trainer Steacy in last week's elimination to finish second.

Race 5 – Armbro Flight Final

(4) PERFECT ALLIANCE couldn't have won last week more easily. She had a lot left to offer and was shut down by Gingras. (9) BEE A MAGICIAN has raced terrific in both starts this season despite finishing second. Last week the race turned into a sprint and you can expect more honest fractions in the final. (5) CLASSIC MARTINE has been blessed with a terrific post considering she didn't win her elimination.

Race 6

(8) ELLIS PARK will make his third start of the season and has come back this season in top form. (2) HES A SENSATION faces a much deeper group of horses this week, but it appears he's up for the task. (7) DAPPER DUDE draws better than last week, has excellent gate-speed and once again gets Campbell in the bike.

Race 7 – Roses Are Red Final

(4) ANNDROVETTE is the defending champion and received a terrific ground-saving trip in her elimination. Tetrick didn't use her much throughout the mile and she's prone for a big effort and a more aggressive steer. (9) SOMEWHEROVRARAINBOW disappointed last week as the favourite and will have to overcome post nine. (1) YAGONNAKISSMEORNOT gets the rail in this rich final after posting the minor upset in her elimination.

Race 8 – Mohawk Gold Cup

(7) STATE TREASURER went the trip of a lifetime last start after making a break at the start and rebounding to win the contest in the final strides against North America's finest aged pacers. (6) FOILED AGAIN comes from the Burke barn, gets Gingras in the bike and has nearly $200K banked already this season. (5) SUNSHINE BEACH was one of the top sophomore pacers from last season and has appeared to come back in fine form following a pair of convincing qualifiers.

Race 9 – Fan Hanover Final

(2) UFFIZI HANOVER put her game face on last week as she captured her first victory of the season. She kicked home in :25 1/5 through soft fractions to provide the minor upset. (1) NAT A VIRGIN raced very well last week for trainer Jones and driver Zeron. She's been given the rail, has excellent gate-speed and could be in store for a ground-saving trip. (9) MAJOR DANCER comes out of the Coleman barn, which can't be overlooked. This filly is will have to overcome post nine, but she closed very strongly last week while racing off-the-pace.

Race 10 – North America Cup Final

(4) LYONSSOMEWHERE looks like the freshest horse in the field and has been undefeated in five career starts. He received a beautiful trip in his elimination by Callahan and was barely used in the mile. (3) TELLITLIKEITIS was sitting third along the rail turning for home before seeing open racetrack and the son of Well Said did the rest with a :26 1/5 final quarter to seal the win. (2) MCWICKED entered the Coleman barn in the latter part of April and the son of Mcardle put his game face on last week to take the fastest of three eliminations in 1:48 3/5.

Race 11

(3) CHAMPAGNE PHIL is my upset play of the night. He draws inside and was a convincing winner two starts back in a new career best. (6) WAZZUP WAZZUP makes his second start back after a mini vacation and raced terrific last week to finish second in this class. (9) BETTOR THAN YOU has been racing at his best in his last four starts for trainer O'Sullivan.

Race 12

(2) GENESEE has been a consistent threat at this class for many weeks. (7) JACS SPADE has a terrific closing kick and if well-spotted turning for home, he's a top threat. (4) MR BIG HEAD made the leap in class last week and the result was a victory. He draws well once again, has terrific gate-speed and is scored a new lifetime best win last week.

Race 13

(9) DONAU is a horse I'm hoping for a price on. He continues to show the speed and paced home very strong last week with a :26 3/5 final quarter. (6) MANCHESTER comes out of the Montini barn, draws the same post as last week and offers a terrific final quarter in each of his last two starts. (8) UP THE CREDIT has all kinds of back class to offer and consistently paces in the 1:51-range.

Race 14

(4) SOCIAL SCENE looks like the logical option in here after racing in the Fillies & Mares Preferred level last start. (6) REBEKA BAYAMA finally found her best stride this season in last week's winning performance. (1) GREYSTONE LADYLIKE is fresh off a win for trainer Belore, draws inside and is capable of the class jump.

KEY STAT: Greece have failed to score in five of their six World Cup matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Radamel Falcao has been ruled out but even without their star striker, Colombia should have too much quality for Greece in their opening game. Los Cafeteros were second in South American qualifying – only two points behind Argentina – and should have few problems against the defensive-minded opponents.

RECOMMENDATION: Colombia

KEY STAT: Costa Rica have conceded two goals or more in their last four World Cup matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Uruguay are rated strong contenders to win Group D but often make hard work of the easier fixtures and may have to dig deep in their clash with Costa Rica. The draw has been harsh on Costa Rica but they will be highly motivated for the first match and can maintain parity until half-time.

KEY STAT: Six of England's seven competitive matches against Italy have featured less than three goals

EXPERT VERDICT: The first priority for England and Italy will be to avoid defeat in their opening game and a safety-first approach could contribute to a bore draw. Humid conditions in Manaus may reduce the match to walking pace and neither team will be too displeased with a point apiece with the stalemate a big runner.

GREECE V COLOMBIA
2014 FIFA WORLD CUP

  • Venue: Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte
  • Date: Saturday 14 June
  • Kick-off:17:00 BST

TEAM NEWS

Colombia lost Radamel Falcao, Edwin Valencia, Luis Perea and Aldo Ramirez to injury before the World Cup and Fredy Guarin is suspended on Saturday.
Falcao's absence means either Carlos Bacca or Jackson Martinez will partner Teofilo Gutierrez up front.
Greece will assess defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who missed their last two friendlies with a muscle problem.
Coach Fernando Santos must decide if Kostas Mitroglou is ready to start after recovering from a knee injury.
Santos will have midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis available after he recovered from the shoulder injury he picked up in training this week.

MATCH PREVIEW

A good start is imperative at a World Cup, as both Colombia and Greece have discovered to their cost.
In their four previous campaigns, Los Cafeteros (the coffee growers) have lost their first match three times - on each occasion failing to make it past the group stage.
The Greeks, who have never progressed to the knockout phase, have been beaten in both of their opening games.
Greece's hopes of avoiding an unwanted hat-trick rest chiefly with their miserly defence. They kept eight clean sheets in qualifying - more than any other European side - and also held Portugal and Nigeria to goalless draws recently.

However, goalscoring has been problematic for Fernando Santos' side, who went three games without netting until beating lowly Bolivia 2-1 in their final warm-up.
Should the Greeks opt to "park the bus" in Belo Horizonte, Colombia may have just the man to break through the gridlock. Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca is a late bloomer who worked as an "ayudante" (akin to a bus ticket collector) on Colombia's Caribbean coast before belatedly turning professional.
The 27-year-old scored 21 club goals this season and will challenge Jackson Martinez, who in turn netted 29 times with Porto, for a starting spot. One of them will have the unenviable task of trying to fill the shoes of Radamel Falcao, who scored nine of Colombia's 27 goals in qualifying.
Los Cafeteros still boast plenty of attacking options, but the loss of Luis Perea, Edwin Valencia and Aldo Ramirez has exposed a lack of depth in central midfield and central defence.
Jose Pekerman's side boasted the best defensive record in South American qualifying, conceding just 13 times in 16 games, and they have lost only two of their last 20 games (W12, D6), beating Belgium and drawing with Brazil and the Netherlands.
However, performances have dipped slightly in the last 12 months, and they were unconvincing in recent draws against Tunisia and Senegal, meaning Colombia approach their first World Cup game for 16 years with a mixture of excitement and apprehension.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

  • The only previous meeting between the sides was a friendly in New York on 5 June 1994 which Colombia won 2-0.
Colombia

  • Los Cafeteros have lost eight of their 13 World Cup matches (W3, D2).
  • However, in those games they averaged 58% possession and 85% pass completion - the highest figures of any nation at a World Cup since 1966 (minimum of 10 games played).
  • Colombia had more shots on target (99) than any other team in South American qualifying. Of those, 29 were from Falcao. The four strikers they have taken to Brazil managed a combined total of 23.
  • If Colombia's reserve goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon plays in Brazil he will become the oldest man to feature at a World Cup finals, breaking Roger Milla's record. Mondragon, who turns 43 on 21 June, was an unused squad member at the 1994 World Cup and played once at the 1992 Olympics.
  • There have been 10 red cards in Los Cafeteros' last 12 matches - three for them, seven for their opponents. Their final four friendly matches prior to Brazil all featured one red card.
  • Colombia were awarded fewer corners (62) than any other South American side in qualifying.
Greece

  • The Greeks have failed to score in three of four games since qualification (W1, D2, L1), with their only goals coming in a 2-1 win against Bolivia on 6 June.
  • Forward Georgios Samaras has failed to score in 16 games for Greece since netting in the 4-2 defeat to Germany at Euro 2012.
  • Greece have lost both previous World Cup encounters with sides from South America, conceding six and scoring none in the process. Both those games were against Argentina.
  • Three of the five goals Greece conceded at the 2010 World Cup came from set-pieces.

URUGUAY V COSTA RICA[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza
  • Date: Saturday 14 June
  • Kick-off: 20:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]Uruguay's talismanic striker Luis Suarez is back in full training after knee surgery but is not under consideration to play.
Diego Forlan will deputise for him having recovered from a stomach complaint earlier in this week.
Costa Rica are expected to start with Joel Campbell up front, with Alvaro Saborio ruled out of the tournament.
Michael Umana and Junior Diaz have both been suffering with flu this week and will be assessed.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]Injuries have dominated the build-up to events in Fortaleza. Luis Suarez's knee injury has rightly hogged the headlines, yet Costa Rica head coach Jorge Luis Pinto has lost four of his intended 23-man squad, including Everton's Bryan Oviedo and Alvaro Saborio, their top scorer in qualifying.
There is no doubt Suarez's absence is the biggest loss to the game. The Liverpool striker lit up the Premier League this season and his eagerly-awaited return to the world stage four years on from his impressive - albeit controversial - appearance at the 2010 World Cup will have to wait that little bit longer.

Diego Forlan, Player of the Tournament as Uruguay finished fourth in 2010, is favourite to deputise for Suarez. Forlan is now 35, and head coach Oscar Tabarez has said: "Age affects things like speed... but Forlan is still a very big part of this team, bringing his experience, presence on the pitch and great shooting skill."
Uruguay were the winners the last time Brazil hosted the World Cup, back in 1950. They are only here this time around thanks to a play-off victory over Jordan, having spluttered their way through South American qualifying.
They also needed a play-off to qualify for the finals in South Africa, beating Costa Rica 2-1 over two legs. The Ticos, as they are known, have not forgotten that heartbreak and are out for revenge.
Only eight countries have ever won the World Cup, and Costa Rica find themselves up against three of them in Group D.
That, though, does not unduly concern head coach Jorge Luis Pinto: "We respect England, Italy, and Uruguay. But they should know that we can play football too.... the braver the bull, the better the bullfight."
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • Uruguay have never lost to Costa Rica in eight previous meetings (W6, D2).
  • Le Celeste beat Costa Rica 2-1 in a play-off to qualify for the 2010 World Cup finals.
  • Uruguay head coach Oscar Tabarez won his only previous meeting with Costa Rica head coach Jorge Luis Pinto at international level. Taberez's Uruguay beat Pinto's Colombia side 1-0 in 2008.
Uruguay

  • Uruguay won the only previous World Cup held in Brazil, defeating the hosts in 1950.
  • Oscar Tabarez has been in charge of Uruguay since February 2006, the longest duration of all 32 head coaches involved in this year's World Cup.
  • It is 44 years since a coach other than Tabarez guided Uruguay to a win at a World Cup finals.
  • Edinson Cavani (25) and Luis Suarez (31) scored 56 goals between them at club level this season.
  • Diego Forlan has scored three of Uruguay's last five goals at the World Cup.
Costa Rica

  • Costa Rica have won two of their three opening games at World Cup tournaments: 1-0 v Scotland in 1990 and 2-0 v China in 2002.
  • The Ticos have lost all three previous World Cup meetings against South American opposition, conceding nine goals in the process.
  • Costa Rica have won only three of 10 previous World Cup finals matches (D2, L5).
  • The injured Alvaro Saborio top scored for Costa Rica in qualifying with eight goals, five more than any team-mate.
  • The Ticos conceded only seven goals in 10 games during the final phase of CONCACAF qualifying.

ENGLAND V ITALY

[h=2]2014 FIFA WORLD CUP[/h]
  • Venue: Arena Amazonia, Manaus
  • Date: Saturday 14 June
  • Kick-off: 23:00 BST

[h=2]TEAM NEWS[/h]England forward Danny Welbeck has been passed fit having overcome the ankle injury he suffered earlier this week.
However, the Italy game comes too early for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as he continues to build up his fitness following a recent knee injury.
Italy may play with three centre-backs after full-back Mattia De Sciglio was ruled out with a thigh strain.
Mario Balotelli has recovered from a minor hernia problem, while Marco Verratti is fit after flu.
[h=2]MATCH PREVIEW[/h]England's Brazilian World Cup adventure starts against the same opposition that ended their hopes at the last major tournament, Cesare Prandelli's Italy.

It is now 27 weeks since the World Cup draw was made, that's six months to prepare for the hothouse of Manaus, the humid and stifling Amazonian rainforest city where England's quadrennial quest for World Cup glory begins.
What Roy Hodgson, his staff and players already know is that they cannot allow the Azzurri to dictate the pattern of play like they did in their Euro 2012 quarter-final two years ago if they are to avoid wilting in the Brazilian sun.
Pass master Andrea Pirlo, now 35, made more passes than the entire England midfield that night and covered more kilometres than any English player. Italy enjoyed 64% of the possession in Kiev as they knocked England out on penalties. Keeping the ball and conserving energy are simply imperative this time around, with only five days recovery until the Three Lions meet Uruguay.
Hodgson has selected a squad built on pace, energy and youthful attacking flair. Only six of England's 2010 World Cup squad and 11 of their Euro 2012 party remain.
"When we get the ball we are going to go for it, we are going to attack," Hodgson has said. "But we are also going to make it clear to them that they can't go gung-ho at any time."
The class of 2014 are England's second-youngest World Cup squad in history, behind the squad of 1958 squad - which was one of just two occasions the Three Lions have failed to make it out of the group stage. The other, of course, was 1950, the only previous time the World Cup was played in Brazil.

Hodgson believes his team is in perfect shape for their opening World Cup game: "We are physically fit, mentally fit and we are tactically prepared," he said.
"That is all you can ever hope for. Now we are ready. Now we will play and let's hope it goes our way.
"The players will go into the game knowing what they have got to do. I know they will feel well prepared and are looking forward to the game. Bring the game on."
Italy manager Prandelli wants his side to cope with the challenging conditions in Manaus by controlling possession.
He said: "Controlling the midfield will be the key. I am looking for 90 minutes of intelligent football played at a steady pace because nothing less will do against such a strong rival."
Goalkeeper Gianluca Buffon left training early on Friday but Prandelli says the 36-year-old is not a doubt for the match.
Prandelli said: "He twisted his ankle very, very lightly and came off only as a precaution, meaning that he will definitely start."
[h=2]MATCH FACTS[/h]Head-to-head

  • The only previous World Cup meeting between these two nations came in the third-place play-off in 1990 when Italy won 2-1.
  • England have only won two of their last 11 internationals against Italy, losing six plus the penalty shootout defeat at Euro 2012.
  • Roy Hodgson's side won 2-1 when the sides last met, in a friendly in Switzerland in August 2012.
England

  • England have only lost two of their last 16 World Cup games (W7, D7), excluding penalty shoot-outs.
  • Wayne Rooney, England's top scorer in qualifying with seven goals, is yet to score in a World Cup finals. This will be his ninth appearance.
  • Leighton Baines provided three assists during qualifying, more than any other England player.
  • England have lost only one of 15 matches played overseas under Hodgson (W6, D8).
  • Eighteen-year-old Luke Shaw is the second-youngest player at the World Cup behind Cameroon's Fabrice Olinga.
Italy

  • Italy emerged unbeaten in World Cup qualifying for the fourth time in their last five attempts.
  • Only Brazil (20) have appeared in more World Cups than Italy and Germany (both 18).
  • The Azzurri have scored in each of their last 14 games at the World Cup, the best current run of any team. The last time they failed to score was in the quarter-finals against France in 1998.
  • Italy have conceded 14 goals from outside the penalty area at the World Cup, more than any other nation since 1966.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 3 STORM CHANCE 6/5

# 5 ETERNAL VALOR 3/1

# 2 BEN BOLT 4/1

STORM CHANCE has a very strong shot to take this race. The rapid return to racing points to a solid effort today. With a nice Equibase class figure average of 77, has one of the best class advantages in this group of horses in this race. Has garnered solid speed figs in dirt sprint races in the past. ETERNAL VALOR - Vaunts sound speed figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group. Handler has very strong win rate (24 percent) at this distance and surface. BEN BOLT - Respectable chance today with second time Lasix. Put up a decent Equibase Speed Figure last time out.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES

The Walker Group Picks

# 3 BLENDED 5/2

# 6 FLATTER YOU 5/1

# 1 GET UP AND TRY 9/2

BLENDED looks to be a quite good contender. Will most likely be one of the front-runners of the group going into the halfway point of the contest. Is a definite contender - given the 72 Equibase Speed Figure from her most recent race. FLATTER YOU - Forster has one of the best winning percentages in this field with entries running at this distance and surface. Ran a strong last race. GET UP AND TRY - The equipment change of blinkers going on today should make a difference. Shows evidence of the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 57 Equibase speed fig which is one of the top in this group of horses in this race.

#2 RAGING SMOKE (ML=3/1)
#4 JE SUIS ENCHANTEE (ML=4/1)
#6 CHASING THE MOON (ML=10/1)

RAGING SMOKE - As long as Cora keeps this pony off the pace, I have to believe this one could be a lucky winner. Forgive the outside the top 3 finish on the off track last out. On a fast track, has a chance in today's race. This mount picks up a lot of cash per start. I believe she can add to the lifetime total in today's race. JE SUIS ENCHANTEE - This filly's last speed figure is high enough to score here, I'll invest in her right back this time. 73-87-92 are last 3 speed figures. Improving each time out is something she should do again today. Last time out, ran the last quarter in less than 25 ticks. What that tells me is she can close well, and should be right there at the end in this race. CHASING THE MOON - Brown brings her back again. I recommend you stick with this hot filly. The ROI when Cruise and Brown hook up is tremendous. PP lines show this thoroughbred with three improving speed ratings. Cruise should be on a live horse in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 QUEEN TO BE (ML=5/2), #8 PIXIE DUST (ML=7/2),

QUEEN TO BE - Couldn't close whatsoever on May 23rd. Hard to bet on in today's event at the expected odds. Not likely that the speed rating she earned on May 23rd will be enough in this clash. PIXIE DUST - The speed figure in the last race doesn't fit very well in this event when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this horse as a questionable challenger.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Have to go with #2 RAGING SMOKE on the win end if we get at least 5/2 odds

Thistledown - Race #5 - Post: 3:01pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $8,700 Class Rating: 74

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 EQUAL JOY (ML=5/2)

EQUAL JOY - This gelding was sharp enough to post a 'top two' workout recently. I think he's ready for today's event. I think this gelding is very sharp right now. I like the fact that Rettele brings him back to a race so quickly. I like that most recent race on June 4th at Thistledown where he ran second. You have to like that recent race figure, 64, which is the best last race speed figure of this bunch. This front runner is running a shorter distance today. Should promote his chances.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 ACE RICH (ML=3/1), #1 CRAZY MONEY (ML=9/2), #6 COOLRIDE (ML=6/1),

ACE RICH - Didn't finish in the money on October 25th at Thistledown. Followed it up with another less than stellar effort. Pedestrian speed rating in the last race at Thistledown at 6 furlongs. Don't believe this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's race. CRAZY MONEY - Today's race is 5 1/2 furlongs. Hasn't hit the board in a sprint affair in the last two months. Not the greatest of signs. Finished fifth last time out of the box. Would have to improve to be there at the wire today. COOLRIDE - This thoroughbred hasn't shown very much in the last couple of contests.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - EQUAL JOY - This is an automatic bet for me. This gelding is the top TM Power-rated thoroughbred and his rating towers over the rest.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:
Bet on #7 EQUAL JOY to win if you can get at least 1/1 odds

RACE #4 - BELMONT PARK - 2:53 PM EASTERN POST

The Astoria Stakes
5½ FURLONGS DIRT TWO YEAR OLD FILLIES STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE
#1 AWESOMENDENSOME
#2 LIATRIS
#3 LINDY
#6 FASHION ALERT

Just for your information folks ... Astoria is a town in the New York City borough of Queens. This race was originally run at Gravesend from 1902 to 1910; at Aqueduct from 1914 to 1955, and from 1960 to 1974; at Jamaica in 1956, 1958, and 1959. Not run in 1911, 1912, 1933, 1934, and 1935. Run at five furlongs prior to 1940. Run on a straight course in 1913. In 1940, Key Ring dead-heated with Tangled for first but was disqualified. After an absence of several years, the Astoria was brought back as an overnight stakes race in 2014. Here in the 103rd renewal of this stakes test, #1 AWESOMENDENSOME, a 5-1 shot, qualifies as a TrackMaster PLUS "PowerPony," and demonstrated exceptional early speed abilities in his "first asking," resulting in a "POWER RUN WIN" to break his maiden. He's out of the Mass Media lineage, whose progeny have hit the board in 44% of more than 1,200 combined lifetime starts. For your information folks, Mass Media also qualifies for my Three Star Sire list ... if you would like a description of the rigid rules that I "employ" to make this list, kindly send me an email ... and yes ... this list, and the "rules" are indeed free! #2 LIATRIS is the overall speed and pace profile leader in this stakes field, and also comes off a "POWER RUN WIN" to break his maiden in his respective, "first asking."

RACE #7 - SANTA ANITA PARK - 4:13 PM PACIFIC POST

The Shoemaker Mile
8.0 FURLONGS TURF GRADE I THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $400,000.00 PURSE
#1 OBVIOUSLY
#4 WINNING PRIZE
#2 JACK MILTON
#7 SILENTIO

#1 OBVIOUSLY, an Irish-bred entry, has turned in "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in each of his last five starts, hitting the board in three ... all three were "POWER RUN WINS!" Jockey Joe Talamo has been in his irons on 13 previous occasions, hitting the board in 11 of those rides, winning 7 times, and is back this afternoon here at Santa Anita for his 14th ride! #4 WINNING PRIZE is the overall speed leader in this stakes field racing at today's distance of a mile on the turf, and has won 5 of 7 starts in his career to date, at today's distance and surface, including a trio of "POWER RUN WINS" in his last five starts.

Meadowlands: Saturday 6/14 Analysis
By Derick Giwner
DRF HARNESS

Race 1 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 48 - 157 / $301.80 BEST BETS: 6 - 12 / $22.20

Best Bet: MY LAST CHANCE (9th)

Spot Play: ONTARIO SUCCESS (6th)

Race 1

(2) LET'S FOAL AROUND has been facing some stiff competition lately and now tackles a suspect group. (7) CAPOZZO comes off a decent mile and should have a say. (5) SWEET BEACH tries his luck on the big track.

[DRF HARNESS: Watch the $1 million North America Cup and full card from Mohawk Saturday on DRF!]

Race 2

(9) BLUEBIRD KIDSQUEEN tends to take advantage of soft spots like this one. (1) BAMBINO HALL really couldn't have drawn into a better spot; now or never? (10) BORN TO FIGHT was a solid second in this class two starts back.

Race 3

(8) JETTY doesn't look like much on paper, but have you seen the rest of this field? He has been chasing in some faster miles and should find the tempo of this race more to his liking. (1) IN KENNY'S HONOR seems to be trending in the right direction, which means he might win his one race for the year sometime soon. (10) THE X HORSE was second in this condition most recently.

Race 4

(6) INSANE IN SPAIN faces a weak field and could be in line for an aggressive steer. (9) SENOR GRANDE wasn't going very far while trying to close at Pocono and Philly. Perhaps the longer stretch will aid his cause. (8) JOLTS VIRTUE makes just his second start in a year and could be tighter.

Race 5

(9) TELL US MORE was good as advertised in round one of this series and despite post nine deserves the repeat call. (4) ON THE RADAR may have won with some room in the stretch; overbet? (5) ALL MY LIFE & (2) PEMBROKE DEWEY are both coming off decent efforts.

Race 6

(6) ONTARIO SUCCESS couldn't quite overcome a tough journey from post 10 last week. This listed class is higher, but this field seems to be of similar quality. (3) MIGHTY YOUNG JOE continues to have a career year for trainer/driver Stacy Chiodo. (2) MY TEMUDJIN N has been racing well virtually every week and certainly has a big chance. (1) LONG LIVE ROCK was a good third in a 1:48 1/5 mile last time; player.

Race 7

(5) DAVID'S DREAM catches a soft C-1 field this time around and should be leading this field turning for home. (4) ROCK OUT exits NJ Sire Stakes where the players are decidedly faster than tonight's group. (3) SOME KINDA BEACH is off a win and might be ready to step up.

Race 8

(5) MARTINI HANOVER was in a tougher spot last time and outdraws some of his main competition. (4) I'M BANSKY can't seem to find the winner's circle but should at least get a big piece. (6) QUIK MAGIC was fried to a crisp in a 53 3/5 half last time; can rebound.

Race 9

(5) MY LAST CHANCE was in a perfect spot behind cover last time and was simply overmatched. This field has no killers signed on and he should have every opportunity to score. (3) OPEN WATER hasn't had much of a chance on the half-mile at Yonkers. Perhaps he'll move up on the big track. (1) MARINER SEELSTER brushed and tired last time in a slightly more difficult spot.

Race 10

(8) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE raced well but had no real chance as the leader backed down the middle half. Let's hope he can make the top this week. (1) WILLIE BOOTS comes off a nice effort and outdraws (3) A PLACE IN HISTORY, who bested him last week in a solid effort.

Race 11

(2) GOLDEN RECEIVER has worked his way all the way down to the B-1 level and still gets grouped with FFA horses. That said, he should have an easy route to the front this week and it is time to get him in gear and try to go down the road. (5) ULTIMATE BEACHBOY couldn't be much sharper; very dangerous. (6) ALLSTAR LEGEND has raced well nearly every start this year.

Race 12

(5) JOURNEYMAN drops out of stakes action into this NW2 in hopes of gaining some confidence. (4) SWEET ROCK raced well for second last time. (7) ROCKEYED OPTIMIST parlayed a good trip into a victory in his most recent race. (6) BEST SAID is another exiting Sire Stake races.

Race 13

(3) GRAB YOUR KEYS was super last time and is simply too sharp to pick against. (1) DUEL IN THE SUN comes off a win and looms a threat. (9) LEG UP was facing tougher foes last time.
