maybe playing 1st halfs is the way to go. I'm tired of getting screwed off by last minute shots, turnovers, fouls, they all seem to go against me.

The line for the 1st half is usually found by taking the line for the full game, divided by 2 and then rounded up a little. If you can find a team that plays better in the 1st half compared to the 2nd half you can find an advantage.

Also, good teams playing bad teams will often run up the score in the 1st half if they are looking at playing a good team in the near future. That often lets the bad team cover the spread for the full game as the good team lets up toward the end.
