Sarah Palin's resignation as Governor of Alaska is a brilliant liberating move for her career, and a potential turning point for the national conservative movement.

The biggest problem with her responsibility as Governor of Alaska is that the state is so far away from the rest of America. No one hears of the good work she has been doing there, and the left is free to paint their own false caricature of her. And because of the long distance and her family, as well as governing, responsibilities, she can't get down to the lower-48 enough to build her national political presence.

I am hoping she spends two weeks of every month now touring the states doing fundraisers for a the sweeping Republican revival in 2010 that is now developing. I hope she establishes a new national grassroots organization to fight for conservative causes. And I hope she starts a new national think tank in Washington.

She could pick up the mantle for social conservatism for the late Paul Weyrich in Washington, reinvigorating the pro-life cause and defense of traditional values. She could advocate sane, grown up energy policies through these organizations, favoring increased production of traditional as well as alternative energy, including nuclear power, while opposing fruitcake ideas like cap- and-trade taxes, and runaway corporate welfare that would bring back Jimmy Carter's synfuels. She should also lead the nation's mothers to oppose mandating replacement of incandescent light bulbs with the new mercury poison gas bulbs.

Here's hoping as well that she devotes these organizations to advancing the economics of Milton Friedman, Art Laffer, and Jack Kemp, rather than the outdated, failed economics of John Maynard Keynes that Obama advocates as if there was never any alternative. She should also be a new staunch advocate for peace through strength, and rebuilding our nuclear deterrent, rather than Obama's policy of nuclear disarmament. And here's hoping she becomes a powerful new voice for Israel, making new alliances with Jewish voters.

If she does all that, the left won't be making jokes about her any more, just like they stopped joking about Ronald Reagan long about 1984, and Newt Gingrich in 1994.

Peter Ferrara served in the White House Office of Policy Development under President Reagan, and as Associate Deputy Attorney General of the United States under the first President Bush.

Im not a Palin fan....Dont get me wrond id vote for her before anybody with a (D) behind their name but i dont see her moving the direction we need to go. Like the present disaster we have she doesnt have the background needed for the job...IMO

Having said all that i believe there can be only 2 reasons for this resignation.. #1 Scandal....thats always the 1st thing that comes to mind.

#2....I believe a powerful and influential member of the media who has never held office MAY be considering a run, if he is he cant get out front and lead the charge until the last minute possible put he could put her out there Monday morning with constant communication with his backers....She would be a great VP candidate behind him...

Nice spin. I think she's done, and she wants to be done. Now she will $$$ CAS IN $$$ big time. I don't blame her. That's what I'd do.

I seriously think there is a possibility that she left to raise money and pay off debt. She has racked up over $500,000 in less then a year defending herself against ethics charges, all of which have been dismissed.

I really do hope there's not another scandal here. As a conservative it hurts when other conservatives screw up. But in a larger sense it's just bad for the country to see politician after politician coming up dirty. I expect more from our leaders, regardless of Party affiliation.

A punchline to a big portion of America, and a quitter half way through term 1 as Gov.

That'll show 'em! Wow that's shrewd!

Yep...she sure put the ol' Swerve Move on the rest of us

19 months as Governor of Alaska and suddenly she's the new Ronald Reagan 1984 (at that point he had over 20 years in the major public eye, including eight years as Governor of the most populous state in the USA and four years as POTUS).

MMJ, if the weekend rumors of a federal criminal indictment being handed down against Sarah Palin turn out to be true, do I have your permission to rewrite your Thread title here?

Meanwhile in the real world...

Sarah Palin not under FBI investigation, agency spokesman says
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-palin5-2009jul05,0,7018263.story

Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.

There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true." He added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.

Nah, the left tries to marginalize most republicans as evil or stupid.

Joe Biden is a moron. All we hear about though is Palin in a Couric interview... Not about Obama and 57 states, or is grandfather in Auschwitz or any of his slip ups.

Biden = bobo
Obama = Either Evil or stupid

So far, none of the previous investigations have generated a criminal indictment.

If one comes down, she'll be facing about 50x1 odds on not being convicted.

Stay tuned

When did these investigations start? Because they have put her about $500,000 in debt to defend herself.

Most of the complaints have been filed since last August, when GOP presidential candidate John McCain picked Palin as his running mate. And most have been denied.

Palin's office has called the multiple dismissals "mounting evidence that accusations of wrongdoing by the governor lack merit and have been politically or personally motivated."

"palin could kill someone in plain sight..."

Oh, kind of like your avowed hero Che Guevara.

ZIT, I'm not an expert on ol' Che, but I'm pretty sure he ultimately did not "get away with" all that much.

18 months as a Junior Senator of Illinois and suddenly he’s the new messiah. At least she’s not stiffing the tax payers of Alaska for a paycheck.
